Storm, wind, rain. Fun. Flying cars. Death. destruction. Flordia. St. Louis. People dying. Animals being shot. Hurricaine Katrina. [Sarah] Blow winds...Shakespeare had you on. My goodness, look at it! Have you ever seen something so...wild! Welling and blowing and dark and boisterous. Dangerous. I love it. There's something about a huge storm that makes me feel alive. That makes me thrive. That...turns me on. It's terrifying...and that's more than half the fun. [Robin] It was as if I was a hurricane blasting through the lives of everyone I encountered. Ever since I put the bottle down my life has changed dramatically! [Markishmark] the winds blew like a train along the rails at a speed no one could possibly imagine. I felt as if I were to be sucked up into another world of which I did not understand, much like the one I live in today. I felt the crushing blow of a wind laced with particles that felt as if I were being shot with a shotgun and as I hurridly closed my eyes I could almost see the destruction around me though the darkness. [praymond] Blasting furiously against the structures of humanity. Wet-wash, fighting sea soldier, pushing towards the shores. Harshness at its extreme. Turmoil and passionate drive. [Digitack] katrina. That was a big one. Lots of people died. Really sucks to have been living there. I prefer the high lands. Also, rebuild your refineries already, I'd like my oil cheap again. ktxbye! [Matt] this is the story of the hurricane the man the authorities came to blame. and they called her katrina and the authoriies abandoned responsibility. See the authorities don't have much say in forces of nature, though they might hav [Sam] a blaast of air sends us bristling about the plains without direction but driven by the natural results of billions of years of evolution and change. when we land we arise again. We are as a field of poppies. [Rikki, USA] I live in fear of a hurricane. I just bought a bucket from the bulk store containing 275 freeze-dried meals. If my house blows down I can still have chicken cacciatore. As long as I can find a way to boil water. And a pot to boil it in. I'm waiting for my husband to buy me a crank radio. [A.] And the hurricane swept me away like dorothy with her red shoes. Here my journey begins and I do not know where it will end or if it will end. Will I find home? Or will I be a vagabond carried by the storm for all eternity? Will I end in the eye of the hurricane or amidst it's furious strength and power? [Franca] This is something that we don't get in South Africa really. Only during rituals the black snake in the sky will appear to warn peoples of their sins. She is the mother snake [Pieter Lombaard] a hurricane is something that very closely effects me because i live in south florida and i have to deal with them guite ofter..sometimes i think of hurricane katrina whenever a hurricane is mentioned on hitting south florida and it reminds of how powerful they really can be...it really is crazy and it is a marvel of nature [nick] katrina killed so many people, and we really did nothing about it. walmart actually had the best response to the disaster--there with food, clean water, and shelter for the people affected. and it's the most hated company in america. fema's a joke...it's like a metaphor for the entire government right now. good intentions, terrible execution. i really hope things change come november. [cate] A massive amount of wind and rain that comes from the sea causing damage and loss of life when they reach land. Usually along the coast of the US due to the location of birth of these naturally forming monsters. [Moonmilk] The hurricane destroyed the house I grew up in. I watched it unfold, on the news, half-heartedly because after my parents moved us away, I forgot about most of the people who lived there, but something happened clicked in my heart when I saw the demolished buildings on my old street. [sara] The hurricane started slowly, almost gently, a few circling winds, a breeze almost, but then the anger of the storm came in, the trees bent, the siding of houses started to slap against itself, park benches turned over, and the water came. [nmw] all these miles of water I cannot see the shore from here [Kim] One of the most fun things to watch and look at, but forget about being near one and feeling the effects. I find it really amazing how we are atracked to things such as hurricanes that are so devistating. We are sometimes a sick culture at times. [Alan] it brings all the life to hell, disturbance, trouble, emergency, is alternative name of hurricane it [Suraj] Catrina New Orleans Salzburgring rain blow death human football stadium arcadium chili peppers flea flair effay snooker red balls ballroom neon car Need for Speed [purzlbaer] My 4 year old is fascinated with hurricanes. He is frightened of them but loves them too. He wants me to cut out pictures of them in the paper & we watch shows about them on Discovery Channel. He wants to know how to prepare if one comes & how people survive. He is interested in all things of the wind, he loves the power windmills that are cropping up all over as well. He is a clever, beautiful little boy. [Chook] what's this? . . . (just clicks i like it) -end [au] Once there was a child who lived on the river. And during a storm he was carried away by a great breeze called David. He never understood why he was the way he was. He just was. And that was that. [craig] The hurricane tore the roots out from under my family. We used to have a home, a car, and a garden full of plants that were carefully tended by my parents. And now it's all gone. It's hard to believe the wind took it all away from us. [gingergrrl] its something huge that can blow a place up it is very strong it can nearly destroy a city or a country people always try to take care from all hurricanes one of my friends calls herself hurricane cuz she is so strong and powerful and can destroy shit [salma amr] one instantly thinks katrina, but there are so many natural disasters that happen all across the world, and yet we find it difficult to give a shit somehow. large numbers of dead people make no sense to us, we can't relate - i think this is a fundamental problem with human nature. [Will Davies] Mother nature at her worse, when she decides that enough is finally enough while dealing with children with tantrums. [Matthew] The boy had forever wanted to be a Hurricane. His friends jostled him for it, teasing that growing up to be a machine, an old war plane, was ridiculous. He could at least obtain a speck of common sense and aspire to be a pilot and not the mechanical beast they flew through the air, engaging in dog fights and tearing through the enemy aircrafts in dizzying feats of aviation. It couldn't be done, they said. May as well hope to grow up to be a firetruck instead of a fireman. Little did *they* know he had grown up to prove them all wrong. [Gleek] There was nothing more to be said. The hurricane was coming and it was time for the practicalities to take precedence. They all had jobs. She would arrive within the hour, bringing with her seven children, three dogs, two guinea pigs and a gold fish. [tinsenpup] amerika wind strong tornado fisch plain wolke dangerous water funny enormous huge amazin stromgberg enemenemu [bob] what used to wake me up in the middle of the night, terrified. that and tornadoes and burglars and ice knives. [eva xiao] the wind blew gently all around the couple, swirling a cloud of fallen petals through their embrace. Their lips met, and the storm between them grew, until it could be contained no more and their hair blew up into the air around them, and their hearts spun in the maelstrom of their desire. He opened his eyes and she, hers. They gazed into each other and saw the weather was fine. [gady] Florida has been plagued with hurricanes and have found it to damage not only structures but the human heart. It can ruin your life in a matter of minutes. You no can longer trust that God is looking out for you when mother nature makes its on natural selection. [Jessica] the hurricane was horrible it had a surge of large waters like a tonado of the sea. it came with such such force that it demolished everything in it's path and killed anyone in it's way. all i have to say is that it was powerful. [Jeff Levinson.] I grew up in eastern NC. In September 1999, hurricanes Fran and Floyd devastated my home state. My family lost power for nearly a week and schools were closed. My graduation was subsequently postponed for nearly 2 weeks because we had to make-up the lost days from the hurricanes (and from a freak snow storm the following January.) Trees toppled. Houses were flooded. People died. Coffins floated out of their graves. Hog carcasses polluted the waters. I even recieved a 'financial hardship' subsidy for college because my father was a farmer and had flooded land and lost crops. I've never been afraid of hurricanes. [JB] A blast of wind and water. Seeing the horrible wreckage makes us realize that we are not aisians, not americans, not britans. We are humans. We all live on this planet together. And as soon as it's over, we all forget again. [shaleblade] are the things that help destroy the world we all live in here in Florida...thank you ...oh wait no...fuck you. [Nick Hillger] Devastation to the humans of this world, disaster for the government! [Euphoria Dreams] når orkanerne komme skal man ikke løbe man skal heller ikke elske man skal gemme sig i husets hjerte. [anders] the only way i could escape from that hurricane was to just think about the best thing that happened in my life....that was the only way i get through for i knew my physical body wouldnt escape as death was inevitable. I have seen everything lose in front of my eyes a couple of seconds back... [Max] The big wind came and blew through the house. The family shook under the covers. Windows rattled and the celiing cracked. Dust floated down into their hair as the plaster crack widened. [DrCris] there is a whole lot of babble about hurricane katrina. and i have to say this: everyone fucked up. and now everyone is paying. [mica] Sally ran out to the back of the house, covering her children with her shawl. [Monica] It would be a horrible thing to experience a hurricane. Never faced a situation like this before. Would like to experience it though with a lot of security in place for me to survive it. never heard of it in India. [Rhishikesh] the hurricane muttered [grayson] a lot of wind, causes much damage, a hurricane lamp, usually much rain accompanies wind. [Alys II] I once had to write about hurricans for a school project...and it saved me....isn´t that ironic...a hurricane saved me...anyway, why do hurricanes have names-...like kathrina ?= [max] windy, turbulent mass of water and energy. pounding everything it sees, giving ay doubting organism a display of nature's true, raw power. smashing things in it's path to matchsticks, reducing tall proud buildings to rubble. [George] A force that has a horrendous impact on the worlds of today, they have the power to rip buildings apart and to cause millions of pounds worth of damage, there is however the technology out there to be able to follow these hurricanes and track their whereabout and their likely points of impact. [Steven Edmunds] this is so tough.. this is all about destruction and there is little to think about. mayhem, chaos, pain, and then some... energy, power, excitement, the power of nature that leaves one spell bound and awestruck! [Jaideep Chowdhary] I have never witnessed a hurricane and I don't really want to because of the damage and distruction it would cause. However, if I could be at a safe vantage point and could be sure that no man or beast was in danger, I would love to experience the force of nature as it wreaks havoc. It would make me realise that the elements are stronger than I am and all my successes and failure my happy and sad moments, all my aspirations for me and my family can come to nothing in a few moments. Earthquakes, fires, floods, and hurricanes or tornadoes are really mans greatest enemy and kill more people than any terrorist organisation or global war. [TRISH DYNES] hurricane katrica has cost millions of people's lives. Hurricane is a dreadful thing. One one can survive a hurricane. I would like to experience it once in my entire life. [janinka] the house was coming apart. The wind was getting very strong by now. David knew that this was the end, but somehow Paul was just standing in the corner looking. Not at something in peticualry but out in the distance. [Simon Larsen] She cried out in shock as she opened the door to her apartment. Her things were thrown all over the floor. Couch cushions ripped apart, books with pages blowing about in the breeze, it looked as if a hurricane had blown through but the blue sky told a different story. Her legs felt weak as she fell to the floor. Her surroundings getting fuzzy as the tears started to fall. [Morgan] My emotions are like a hurricane. [Ed] It came sweeping down on her like a hurricane, the realization that maybe, just maybe, things would be okay. That perhaps if things worked out like she hoped, that her every desire would come true. Her partner would walk into her office, and tell her that the case was solved. And in the time between the first case and the last one, that he had realized he was in love with her. Or maybe it was just the six beers talking. [Jessah] It blows like a destructive force bent on vengeance to the land. A great sea monster that swells and increases in fury, and, when tasting land, is set like a shark to the feeding frenzy. Trees bend, the seas rise, the waves crash. The hurricane is here, and we are afraid of it. [nick] Im a hurricane katrina victim... life devastator which took away everything i had and all my material posessions... but i also see it as a life saver, i needed to get out of mississippi cause i was going down a single path with no future. [marcus] distaster, destruction, I'm not to fond of the idea of a hurricane going through my shed, and as mom and steve dance in the kitchen, I find it extremely distracting to do this. Anyways. I'm lucky i live in Alaska because we dont get hurricanes up here. [Alyss] she was as destructive as a massive hurricane and she blew everybody away with her elegants. she glanced over and smiled. she knew who she was and she didn't let anyone stop her. she was as dangerous as a hurricane and as beautiful as a flower. [jade] The hurricane swept in and destroyed the city where I was raised and my parents still live. The destruction it brought was tremendous as it brought terror to those who lived in it. [Ann] The hurricane was rough. It was fast. It was devastating. But through the hurricane I came to realise what had been wrong all along. It was not the winds that troubled me. It was you. [Casey McGrath] hurricane a viscious tornado that appears when a brutal storm is about, it trashes buildings, trees and everything in its way. It picks up its items and carries it about in a huge twirling vortex. Usually appears [Anthony Loddo] katrina! Katrina, are you there? It's time to come inside for dinner!! [mmmmmmmm] the destruction of homes [Esmeralda] Powerful tropical storm with strong winds going over 150 miles per hour. They destroy cities, flood inland and cause people to flee their homes. Hurricanes hit inland even up to five times a year. [Ioana] i love hurricanes as long as they arent too strong. I love to watch the wind blow and the sound of the rain is wonderful. i like to be in a hammock during a light hurricane. they are the most beautiful storms. [Cyndi] Hurricane blowing up a storm, there is nothing to do but hide from its fury. It comes on like a boxer not withholding his punches and tears up the place. There isn't a house left standing and even the doors are torn about the place. [brent] Katrina, of course. Volunteering in New Orleans and meeting the great people there. Helping a woman who had contractors screw her over...twice, costing her thousands of dollars. Homemade jambalaya. Grits. [Claire] When I watched the devastation of Katrina, I felt shock and disgust over our government. I was never a Bush fan, but when I heard the quotes from Barbara Bush, I was sick to my stomach. I knew then that the White House was there for the Dems to lose. If we do lose it, I just dont know what to do. I can't imagine McCain for 4 yrs. [Shari] Just came back From N.O. so that word has a lot of meaning. Devestation, pain, incredible loss, but also, love, strength and unbeliveable perserverance. [Chris] wind water, spiraling towards a town, people look on at the force of god barreling down on them. No choice but to pray to god he forgives them, but more important, did they forgive themselves? [Renee] it is a kind of storm especially in usa [nico] When a hurricane blows, it goes for the heart. [Debbi] dangerous, deadly, strong, killer, devastating, [darwin marron] fun [molly] Hurricanes meant time off of school when I was a wee little me. It was like watching a video game... tornadoes in the back yard pool... watching Fried Green Tomatoes all night with my parents, and sleeping in. Oh, and other peoples houses got fucked up. But I was an invincible child. So I had no idea. Ahh. Good times. [Shannon] Hurricane, As name People have to run when hurricane comes. it simply destructive weapon [Amol] She swept through the house like a hurricane, 'cleaning'. Only not, because she never did fix dinner, never did make him mac 'n cheese. [Ai] The wind blew through the boarded up town, rushing and crashing. The rain whipped against the windows, tapping an incessant beat. The pal trees bent low to the ground, epitomizing the need for flexibility in a town such as this. [Christy] Hurricanes. Wind. Water. Stress. Katrina. Bad memories. We had a hurricane day off from school once. It was actually a beautiful day. Warm, very breezy, hardly any humidity worth complaining of. And I spent it inside. I think I'm afraid of hurricanes... at least, being caught in one. Though I love dancing in the pouring rain. Hurricanes used to be tough to get through. Now, I just sit at the window and watch the rain and the wind. It's beautiful. [Llyralei] When I think of hurricane, the first thing that pops into my head is Katrina. I guess this is unavoidable, although hurricanes hit all the time they rarely generate so much national attention. I can't even name any of the hurricanes that hit florida multiple times a year, I know it's somewhere north of like 60? A small part of this might be my close proximity to louisiana, but I doubt this plays a major part in it. [Alex] hurricane katrina was the worst thing that could have happen to new orleans, but why did people not leave when they had the chance, instead of blaming the president they should have to action when they had time. this is what i dont understand are people there that stupid to just sit and wait to die, somebody please help anwser this question for me. [dizzle] I have never seen a hurricane. Just heard about it. I wonder why they are all named after women and recently heard a joke about it, that they behave the same way as women. They come with a thunder and take everything with them when they leave. Sexist, I say. [Jasmine Thakkar] hurricane causes a lot od destructions.many movies have been made on this topic. government announces such clamities so people should take corrective measures to prevent loses of lives and protect themselves. the [aisha] disastor that leaves people homeless it is one of the worst natural disastors that can become on a person and what bothers me is that people choose to live in the places that there are hurricanes i guess people live in paradise for fun without worrying about consiquences [ricky] i've refreshed this page three times in hopes of getting a word other than hurricane but apparently that's not possible. i guess they only have the word hurricane because of the day it is. hurricanes cause natural disasters and are like, a ton of wind that causes major damage to stuff. hurricane katrina is one of the most well-known hurricanes in recent history. [annamaria] a thousand people are homeless now - two thousand - three. doesn't matter. there's no one there anymore or at least we hope not. got most of them off the island. why do they build on islands anyway? a good hurricane and no one's there anymore. but it's beautiful. so beautiful. the beach or the storm? [Julia] Miami's football dynasty is overrated. Historically, they're nothing. USC is prime. Fight On, Trojans. Fight On, forever. [Sha] new orleans is the prototypical hurricane hotspot in todays american mind. Unfortunately there was little coverage of what actually happened elsewhere in lousiana or even florida etc. It's a shame that only the big cities get response, sure it's sad but man, it can be bad for others just as much. [Stephen Moore] thousands of people lay in streets, their faces swollen with water, eyes forever open in lazy eyed stares. I walked amongst the debri pushing bits of shattered lives out of my path. The breeze was still cool and moist as it threw up my hair and created small ripples in the diseased murk. [Stephen] well tradegy always follows the word hurricane. it seems that no one ever sees the positive benefits from natural disasters- or do they? after katrina america became a stronger force. more unified and willing to help eachother out. that is the silver lining to the cloud. [abbey gail] Like a hurricane is one of my favorite Neil Young songs. "You are like a hurricane. There are storms in your eyes... And I keep getting blown away". I'm glad that I don't live anywhere near where there are hurricanes. Tornados are unexpected, only predicted shortly beforehand, but their paths of destruction are lesser in scope. Guess I feel less vulnerable to the elements with tornados than with hurricanes, although that probably isn't a very rational thought. I've been in a tornado before, when I was 8. I never want to be in the path of one again. [cam] a hurricane what an arousing thought. worlds crashing down while water cleanses the land. Such a simple thing yet it means so much. Death, destruction, power, rebirth. Oh how glorious mother nature is, and how humbly we accept her ways. [Alec] A flurry of words bursts like a hurricane against your face. Strong winds with piercing rains. Insults and curses you shriek. Shrieking and screaming and swearing like hell hath no fury. Thou art not safe from these winds and rains. My mind is ablaze with wild fire. Fire and hurricanes and rains. [Emily] The downpour scared my family. I could see my brother crying into my parents arms. the terror on my moms face as she whispered things to calm him made me uneasy. I tried to stay calm too but it was too hard. I wanted to go to my bed. I wanted to be safe. [Kelly] watevr...spencer said he liked u more than the othr girl - i mean will did [kerri] u shudda got wit will when he liked u [kerri] Hurricane Katrina was a horibble ocurance. It's bad? There's bad weather, people lose their homes. Many die and/or get injured? Uhhhhm, it's not good. It's sad. I'd love to help hurricane victims to rebuild their homes. One man wouldn't leave when a helicopter came to pick him up because they wouldn't let him take his VERY LITTLE dog. ): [Hayley] hellz ya he does [kerri] he does not [mac] me 2 [kerri] I am boy crazy yall! just thought id say that. [kerri] the tide swept in killing everything in its grasp. clenched cold fist, meeting pavement, then sky and there was nothing left. It had taken it all, in the ultimate act of greed. [samantha rae nichols] you drove through my heart like a hurricane [adele] Katrina, obviously. I mean our comunity is so inundated with buzzwords and panic sketches by the news and media that it's hard to drop a single phrase without being assaulted by one's own memories. 911? right september terrorists, bleah. Whatever. I'm taking back the world of words, this mechanism can't hold me in. [Andrew Meare] the blustery hurricane is just like this horrid life of mine. spinning spinning out of control faster and faster destroying much in its way [Lenore rose] Katrina. It's a damn shame. [wekesa] The house I was taken home from the hospital to was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew only a few months after we moved to California. Now that I haved been away from California for 7 years I am, every year, expecting a disaster ti strike there as well. Perhaps misfortune is something that follows us... [KP] hurricane katrina was fucking stupid, nobody cared, I didn't even pretend to give a shit when it happened. If I don't care when it happens in asia why would I care if it happens here. It's not like there is someone to blame. Nobody pressed the hurricane button. I don't know mabye I was supposed to define hurrcane [steve] Hurricanes are like my life, everything blowing around and being tossed miles away from where you were. and at the end everything is a mess that takes months or possibly years to straighten out again. [Briana] The angry winds of the hurricane thrashed my artwork to each end of the room to the other. My expression's of who I am and my feelings, my ideals. Now they are all lost, all mixed up, all lost. Who Am I? [Senchii] when the earth shakes and homes are torn down. no one thinks or sleeps in this hot environment. people cannot live like this! no internet or sound no gas. it is time to clean the yard. the power's back on [Jackie] hurricanes cause massive amounts of damage when they strike. hurricanes are also named after women, which may tell you something about us. hurricanes cause distruction, like women. Oklahoma does not have hurricanes. [Nicholette] It's that time of year again. I really like hurricane season. It gives me a sense of what it's like to not always be sure of your safety and it makes me dig to find inner secruity. When I do, it's a warm and cozy feeling. [Rachael] I was lost in a flurry of words. They whirled around my head and spun out of control. Their power was inexorably, uncontainable. I tried to catch them but could not. I tried to make them out in the blur but couldn't see a thing. I heard sounds, vague notion, and ideas but soon it was all gone. [Stephanie Medford] my first memory as a child is that of a hurricane. i could hear and see and almost feel the world crumbling, things flying through the air. my mother was hunched over me, crying and praying and asking for safety. i remember we packed and moved the next day; all i had left was her, and my bunny. [alyssa] Like a hurricane, she swept through the room. Hair flying, eyes blazing. A thousand bolts of lightning, a blazing inferno wracking a forest to make the mighty redwoods shake, had nothing on this girl. She frowned and glared at all who opposed her gaze. All who didn't actually oppose it, too. [Lucretia] A hurricane was whirling through his mind as all these thoughts and questions exploded inside of him when he woke. Where was he? How did he get here and why did his head hurt? Why were his arms tied behind him and most of all who did this? His eyes widened in shock when a deep familar voice spoke up from the darkness; it immediately set things straight. His father. [Alek] Dread the thought of ever being in the path of a hurricane. Count my blessings I have not been in that predicament. I ache for the countless thousands who have lost loved ones and their own lives to natures fury. I don't understand much about hurricanes. [Karen Falcon] Hurricanes are often misunderstood as natural "disasters" when really, they are a necessary cyclonic part of our atmospheric stability. In other words, I love hurricanes, even though they kill millions upon billions of life-forms on our planet. In many other words, hurricanes are sexy and evil. [Bryan] The hurricane blew south, a torrent of wind and debris. Various trash lay in it's wake, bodies strewn about. [The Great Vorelli] there is the actual threat of one, soon, in this place where i first experienced one in 1989...who would've thought my return would sync up with it's arrival, like i really don't belong here...not that i ever really thought i did. [Eli] you don't do it on purpose you make me shake gonna count the house until you awake with your baby's breath breathes symphonies come on sweet catastrophe. [Sundance Kid] the hurricanes came and took my house. they took my brother's house and my mother's house and my father's house and threw it off into the woods, with all the houses of my friends and lovers and neighbors. the hurricanes came and spit on us and dragged us through the mud, but we came out the other side and wiped all of the slime off of ourselves and grabbed eachother's faces and smiled and smiled and smiled. [jon] devastation, destruction, renewal. The victims waited on their flooded homes. They should've been going mad, but the strength and faith of those amazing individuals let them continue to sing. [Harry Levin] Hurricanes seem pretty scary; their devastating trail leaves people, animals, lives scattered. They also seem kind of beautiful. Like nature's clean up. [kat] Life is a hurricane. It's a mess, disastrous. Sometimes it'll hang you out to dry, leave you with nothing, nobody, not an ounce of hope. But maybe, just maybe, once in a while it'll be exactly what you need. A perfect disaster. A chance to start over. Rebuild. Recreate. [Melanie] The hurricane. Only one of the nicknames for the furious boxer, who gained his proverbial title by knocking out nearly 300 boxers. He never lost a match. His fists, a whirlwind of pain. And his head, a rattled cage for a broken piece of equipment. [Delicious] impotencia humana [kulture] The hurricane of voices struck my head with a force to rival any of Mother Nature's. A hurricane... spilling all thoughts and processes away, making room for my only thought to be about these voices. [Amanda] A hurricane, its the beautiful disaster i've been waiting for to wisp me away, becuase when i see it coming i can only thing of the days when your hair got in your way and i smooth it to the side to see in your eyes. [Christian.is] i think it sucks that the government didn't do more to help the people who were struck by Katrina in Louisiana. If we really wanted to be a great nation, as we so claim, our government should've been there the day it happened (or before). But I haven't gone down there either so I can't point fingers. [W. D. S.] There is always that thought in the back of my mind that frightens me to this day - Hurricane. It's not because I'm scared of hurricanes. How can I be scared when I've never experienced one. But it's just the thought; for example Katrina. That's got to be the worst I can think of, in my life time, and I witnessed it on television with the rest of the world. But if I'm not frightened than why am I frightened when I think of hurricane? I don't know. [John Benink] Desimated life can be rebuilt. A hurricane has stolen so many dreams and yet we stand by and simply look at the devastation. Don't we have a responsibility to make a dream fulfilled be repaired. Isn't healing a force of nature much like a hurricane. Katrina was simply one force. [Edward Cates] NEVER BEEN IN ONE BUT THERE WAS A HUGE STORM IN WASHINGTON WHEN I WAS A KID THAT HAD 100MPH WINDS. Crying, squalling, blowing tears and wind and hair. Covers around my face. Wet eyes. Blocking my view. Touching, stopping. Making the world go away. Unstoppable. Unappreciated. [Pam] is the dangerous wind and rain you fear in the tropics. What one must endure to balance the paradise of all the other days. I was in one once, in Florida, when I was a kid. My grandfather put on yellow foul weather gear and went out into it just to be outside in a hurricane. It makes an incredible racket - unreal loud wind sounds. I was a little afraid, but I mostly felt safe inside their house. The next day everyone went outsid and said hey this used to be over here, where did this come from? where did his boat go? Look how it moved this thing. [Cindy] the wind is so blowing so fast i don't know which way is right and left. the news was broadcasting but go caught off mid-sentence. the world is shaking as i'm standing in the street without a place to go. houses are getting destroyed one by one and i'm watching. life should not be like this. When will he finally emerge from the storm that is his life right now? This damn hurricane better not destroy anymore than what it already has. [j] Hurricane is a storm, isn't it? It blows with a high velocity and often there is rain involved too. They can cause a lot of destruction. [Kasami] Wow, I clicked that "go" button over 2 minutes ago and "Hurricane" is what I got. Like there isn't enough political stigma with that word already. Katrina, baby; Katrina. Thousands of poor people left out to dry, though only figuratively. Probably wet, for the most part. Black too, for the most part. It's sad that poor and black tend to mean the same thing in terms of what your life is like. [Joseph Pierandozzi] Hurricane? A hurry of cane? Is sugarcane related? I guess not, hurricanes are destructive. Destroy. Large. Hurt. Out. The hurricane destroys what it sees. It ravages, it tears. And the souls left behind know not what to do. [Adopt524] The hurricane of emotions that flooded through her as she reached the top of that mountain. Her life's work was done. She had reached the top of her profession, matched by no other human on the docile planet that she lived on. [Darren Alexander] hurricane: a drink a fighter, and a natural phenomena. Or weather. Some people say that hurricanes were originally given girls names because they too were unpredictable, dangerous, and could destroy a man's life's work in an instant, yet we still find them both fascinating to be around. Such is life. [pyotr] i live in florida, these freak me out so much. i remember how horrifying hurricane andrew was and in '92 i was just 5. now im 21 and hurricanes are about the parties but the fear is still there. [ale] RRRRRRRIIIIIIIPPPPPPPP!!!!!!! Dirty, rain-soaked cloth buffeted in the wind inches from my face. That used to be our sail. [Harrison] Spinning wind and water, hurling stuff all over the place. Fast and easy transportation for people who live in places Darwin told them not to, or for others who, because of their unfortunate ancestry, had nowhere else to go because they were kept away from resources so long. Of course, upon arrival they will likely be dead, as they will have crashed into a car or building in mid-air when they were hurled through said hurricane... [matt] a hurricane of passionate envy envelops me slowly...gently....crushing me beneath it's oppression. Caressing me into a slumber...killing me softly in my sleep. I cannot fight this storm...cannot bear arms cannot..breathe... [laura arnsdorf] Malevolent, fierce, dauntingly evil. Wind and pounding rain devoid of lightning. Huddled masses weather the storm in creaky cellars filled with canned food as their homes are destroyed. [Matthew Farina] hurricane of love.. pulls me toward you.. the force is unbearable. i cant resist. my heart pounds for you. don't stop ... [tuffles] hurricanes are bad. D: [emofag412] hurricane katrina devasted the south. [savannah] I suppose the hurricane wasn't as terrible as everyone thought. It was mostly candy and porn. It was the best time I've had ever, I'd dare say. [jazbeck] The winds sweep across the barren wasteland placed in front her eyes. Nothing stopped it. Nothing could. It was heading start for her home. Everything she had ever known. She couldn't think. Her feet were frozen in the same place they had been moments earlier when she heard the siren sound from inside her hard earned home on the bay. She only wished there was more time. More time to venture as to what could be done. [Paulina] force, strong wind water death destruction fast furious nature devastating unpredictable [pax] the worst type of weather damamge is caused by hurricanes. this is not because of the hurrican itself but by the tornados it creastes. they cause wind and water damamge. flooding is a huge problem when it causes storm surge. the wind knocks over trees which in tuen smashes houses. Fema sucks!!! [elizabeth armentrout] the hurricane roared past us with the fury of hell's minions unleashed. If you were outside, which only the crazy or mad would be (that's us), you could see the color of the clouds - black. [D. Fagundes] hurricane andrew. THE RAIN DRIVES HARDER THAN IT SHOULD AND THE TREES REGRET COMPLAINING OF THIRST JUST HOURS BEFORE. [PAT] Devistation in the early morning, trees threatening to crush people under the weight hey've given way to the strong wings. People scream and run from what was once a nice breeze, a friendly atmosphre, but now it has turned into horror, terror, children being crushed undert hings much to heavy for any force to hold. Peices of homes flung into nothingness. [Zero Kaito] hurrican'es seem fun in a scary way. In a way that people want to have the bejeesus scared out of them. It's also a sense of how strong something is. My headache is like a hurricane. Who Cares. I've been in minor ones. And I wanted them to be stronger...to feel loss. That's sad. I wanted to see more tree limbs flying through windows. [birch] a big storm, where a lot of things are destroyed. often in florida. beautiful power of nature, if you aren't down there to get destroyed by it. i'd like to see one sometime, just to be in the prescence of something that powerfully awesome. but, maybe i'm just weird like that. [elsbeth] Here i am, rocking you like a hurricane. Well, i shouldn't say rocking, more like gently touching uncomfortabally. Yeah, thats the ticket, but then i couldnt say hurricane. [jregerman] I've never been in a hurricane before. I don't I know anyone who has either. My sometimes looks like its been through one, though. The only time I every really personally worried about one was when I was planning my wedding at Ft. Walton Beach. I really wanted that to be my location so I watched the weather and webcams big time to make sure it wasn't all destroyed. It wasn't destroyed, thank goodness. And my wedding went perfect and was beautiful. [Meghann] Hurricanes are pretty disastrous I think. They cause destruction and loss to families and the government. They're a natural disaster. Gives famous musicians a chance to do some concerts and raise money for the victims I've heard.. [4578] I've spent many years living through hurricane season after hurricane season. I'm glad that I don't live there anymore. I still miss the predictability though, season after season. [Yv-] He threw himself into the door like a battering ram and fell into the room onto a stack of papers the size of his work desk. They scattered into the air like moths. His dog stared at him try to pick himself up, sliding across tax forms and unopened envelopes with "URGENT: PAYMENT REQUESTED" stamped on the front in the kind of red the government likes to use. He shook his head and tried to figure out where his hat had gone. It should be easier than this, he thought, to find a brown hat in a hurricane of white paper. [charles] There was a hurricane not too long ago. It was called Katrina. There were some stupid things the government did and it was very sad. Many people lost their homes and their lives and there was much racism present. Many people have gone to help hurricane victims, but it seems that they have been forgotten too soon. I wish that I knew how to help more, but I don't have much money. [Sam] Katrina was the experience I had. Watching it on TV, thinking about how incompetent President Bush and his administration was. A few days later I joined the government to try to help rebuild the region. Fortunately my agency was one of the more competent agencies in the relief effort: the SBA disaster relief agency. We provided over 10billion dollars of loans to help the Louisianans and other gulf business and residents recover. Well this has gone on for more than 60 seconds. Why are you allowing me to continue to type? [Jim Walker] hurts people makes people sad [niki] The hurricane swept through the town creating mass destruction. She grabbed her baby and ran. No time to think. Keys and baby in hand she opened the door to the car. It was too late. It was headed right for her. [Molly] A hurricane of thoughts assail me, bringing me down into an abyss of dispair, where anguish washes up like the sludge-tide of angst. How could I have done it? Why am I still alive? Her eyes lured me to her from across the bar, and the shadows along her baack wer [John Miller] wet tragedy. katrina's a bitch. how could that happen? was is just karmic retribution? for what? who deserves that exactly? people say it may have been a "cleansing." how can humanity be so hateful? if it were your mothers, children, friends, would it still be a cleansing? [kristin] thunder and waves, crashing a caucophony of fear. dashing hope, but bringing new life. seas swell with the brimming epicness of loss and life. Who will fight the winds, who will stand the fury of the earth [Matt Hansen] Hurricanes can be quite dangerous, but I've no personal experiences with them. I'm not sure what to write about them, when I've not much to do with them. I guess, maybe, I should be more involved in the world and then I would deal with them more? I donno. I guess we could go to "hurry" like the "hurri" in "hurricane," but I donno. I guess I always feel like I'm in a hurry, like I have no time. [aimomo] destruction and purification through wind and hail and rain [TheGoon] hurricanes take me away, let me spin myself into my own frenzy. i won't take my chances with the rain, i won't take my chances with the wind, but give me a hurricane and away i will go [nate] Hurricanes are very annoying. People often don't get very good results from hurricanes. I hate hurricanes because they hurt people and they're really annoying. Hurricanes hurt innocents and makes me feel bad and awful and terrible. I wish hurricanes didn't exist in the world anymore.(Sigh) [Carter] Katrina was a crazy time. Everybody was pissed at President Bush because he supposedly did not handle the situation well. Also, there are still tons of people without homes because of Katrina and it was a couple years ago! I can't imagine something like that wiping out my entire home and everything I knew to be familiar. Things like that don't happen in the midwest. [Rachel] No one likes hurricanes, i mean they are like big tornadoes in the middle of the sea destroying vacation sites. I have only been in one hurricane, the other was a tropical storm. We stayed all night at a Wally World until it was clear in the morning. Slept in our old old van. [Fenix] The most predictable of all natural disasters, they still manage to screw up so very much. It's ridiculous how much the history of the Gulf Coast has been shaped by these, from 1900 (Galveston, the huge port city that never was) to NOLA (the refugee camp of the country, and don't you love football too?) all in all, I'd still rather have them than earthquakes--guess it's the hatred of the West Coast alive and well in me. [adalidalover] Tetelestai. A breeze lingers, wandering with fingers feeling trees. Squoosh. I look down, and a waterlogged doll oozes under my boot. The eyes are missing. I sigh to myself the only words of consolation I know: tetelestai. [Alyson] wind [jessica] Something that I desperately want to see. It's my perversity, I know, my desire to be close to destructive nature. It's an attraction to grandeur, and to death, and to God. There is no other form for Him, I would think, than that, than this. [West] scary things with water and wind that like to kill and murder and cause horrific suffering for millions of people causing famine such as the potato famine in ireland and its strange and loud and danceds like a unicorn on a hot summer day while eating red meat brought to him from his house where the butcher resides. I'm not sure why. When I was 14 I finally saw one. It is one of the most amazing things anyone can ever see or experience. The sheer power that is around you, within you. It reminds you how utterly small you are. [Thandie] the hurricane awaited our departure for it to start messing up the people's houses. every year there's something like this happening, but this year has been the worst. and the people are just stuck, you know? anyway, i was in the store, the other day and there was this hot blonde. [gigi] Powerful yet radiant when the eye sits perfectly still hovering over the sky. So peaceful it becomes for so little awhile, until the raging winds take control and everything is swept away. So long...so long... [ashley marie] These awful winds that can cause such havoc, especially on the east coast, can also bring blessed rain to area suffering from extreme drought. However, of late, there have not been very many hurricanes in the US since Katrina, although they have been predicted, erroneously. Is that a good thing? The predictions, I mean. Well, it really doesn't affect us except in a psychological way--the predictions, I mean. Weather forecasting, especially long-range is still more of an art than a science, and so we should be grateful for those hurricanes that bring soothing relief and dread those that cause such pain and misery. [Donna Crozier] the water and wind bash the houses as the storm front moved across the coast. this seems oddly familiar to the everyone who has seen the end coming, soon, itll all be over with. all the pain, the struggle, the lost desire, it will all just disappear. [James] Hurricanes are physical nightmares, a spectacle to behold. Everyone carries a hurricane inside, it's the inner force that drives every move you make, every word you say. Some people call it love, others call it will, and even others call it fate. [asghod] again? i mean, fine, im greedy coz im trying this again. but im so fucking rusty. ive seen what the other people wrote. was very nice really, looks like they know how to copy paste. geez. There she sat mind in the eye of the storm, body being worn and torn by [Lyndsey] hurricans are bad, cept when water levels are low, like around here right now in northwest south carolina. i guess we're in need of a hurricane on the coast that will make the water levels rise here. we're in a drought. but hurricanes can be destructive. [kristin] Last summer I watch a big hurricane from my bedroom's window. I just can't believe it. Everything started to disapear while we were lying on our sofa inside our iron bunker. It was more or less 4th of August and we have been all day on the beach, just sunbathing. The palm tree from my neighbour's garden spred away crashing with the lightpal of the street. Garbage was flying and fulling the air, as a rain of mixed shit. He started to make a natural orange juice for me. [elena] HURRICANES ARE THE SHIT!!!!! [Karen] Underwater but we still don't understand [Flobots Copier] hurricane [roberto] Hurricane: a swirling mass of wind and water that cn destroy homes, sweeping up debris from the ocean, land, and air alike. They're called typhoons if they occur in the Pacific, but in the Atlantic they're hurricanes. What of those that occur in the Antarctic Ocean, which is one of the four major oceans? Maybe they're not called anything because nobody pays attention to those. All the people living there, they don't matter to the rest of the world... don't they? She offered me a glass of white wine and kittens. . . [ellie] The wind blew uncontrollably fast as the waves whipped the shore. Buildings ripped from their foundations as water poured through them and into lands that were once as dry as the desert sands. I watched from my perch in the house knowing that we would not survive. The boards over the windows and doors would only hold for so long. I hoped the winds would die down but I can see they won't... [AJ Brown] This is the story of a hurricane, or at least that was the song by Bob Dylan that i heard over and over as I walked through the streets of Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica.... and then I returned to my home and knew that nothing had changed, that we were still both the very same people in the very same frustrating situation. Yet our situations could change, still. [Emily] Hurricane Katrina devestaed the nation. But I'm afraid they have been forgotten. I want to help rebuild.
