Hi all, if you’d like to introduce yourself, this is the place to do it!
I’m Phil, but I go by Haelo on here and NaNo – let’s face it, there are plenty of Phils!
I’m an Aussie but I live in the US with my wife, my two young boys, and my older stepson when he’s home. I go into writing when in primary school (equivalent to elementary in the US), but even moreso in high school, although I suppose it has always been about creation for me – the form of expressing that creativity has just varied, from game design to writing to web design to drawing to programming.
I found NaNo last year (2009), and managed to win the first time through, completing just over 50K of my novel Clockwork. As I tend to do, I then set it aside and focused on other things, despite my best intentions to finish, although admittedly there were other things that needed the attention. I am now restructuring my life so that I can make sure I fit that creativity in, as well as everything that is a requirement for just being alive (and a parent, and a husband, and so on).
Oneword is part of that plan – it’s a way, for me, of making sure I get writing in somewhere. Sure, it can’t be the only thing that gets done, but it’s a quick and simple reminder of what I want to achieve, and a regular mini-exercise for my writing skills.
