Strangers 1 month, 1 week agoHe left a note on the lamppost, wrapped with a bit of graphite, squeezed carefully into a minuscule capsule. He had written his name. He had taken nothing but adrenaline, glanced around like a criminal, that smooth satisfaction returning. Plugs the magnet back under the ”push button to activate walk signal”, saunters off.

Strangers 2 months agoHe is a madman. That’s what they say. He sleeps on the road, and picks for food from the garbage thrown on the corner. She is scared of him. His hair forms dreadlocks from years of being unbathed, and his eyes are always a bit unfocused. She has heard that he is a college graduate, and that his family lives in the neighbourhood. Once, he spat at her as she walked past. Sometimes, she stubs out her cigarettes before she is done with them, knowing that he collects them for a special treat.

Strangers 2 months agoI feel as though I should know her. But I do not recognise her, I do not recognise that face. Not even those eyes that blink in time with mine. I scan the face carefully, every spot every shadow every wrinkle – but no, nothing is familiar. The face is older than I expected, fatter, rounder. I move back to the eyes and gaze deep into them, trying to see behind them, but all I can see is the reflection of a reflection of a reflection of a person I do not know. And so I turn away from the mirror without saying hello.

Strangers 2 months, 1 week ago”Michelle”, she thought to herself, ”That’s believable.”
The well-dressed young man looked at her, almost expectantly. He waited. She looked back into his eyes, forced a smile and quickly glanced behind her. Nothing was there.
A young couple exited through the large, glass doors at the side of the room.
”Yes, definitely Michelle”, she thought once more, as if to reassure herself. The young man, still waiting, began to fidget.
”Michelle” she said confidently.
”Ah.” he replied, almost non-verbally. He had lost interest.
A bell rang from behind her. She spun around and snatched a brown paper bag. This is what he had come for. She handed him his lunch.
”Thanks,” they both said simultaneously.
He walked towards the door and gripped it with his right hand. He paused and turned back to her, his nonchalant smile now seemed a little confused. He chuckled and pointed to his chest. Then he gestured at her with a dip of his head.
She looked down and saw her name badge. It read ”Bridgette”. She looked up, but he was already gone.
(A girl at a fast food place took a really long time to tell me her name, hence this ^^)

Strangers 5 months, 2 weeks ago”I’m sorry!” He yelled after the girl. The girl could take no more.
She had so dearly loved the boy till her last breath. He was her everything. He had once loved her too, but it was different. He didn’t have this immense love like she did. That was when the earth stopped.
Everything stood in place for a second. All that was moving were the girl’s tears, streaming down her face, and the boy’s hand trying to grasp her’s. He finally took her hand and everything went back to normal. But, what they didn’t realize is that they were in the middle of the street. A bus was coming there way and she knew it, but said nothing. She just uttered a whisper that could only be heard between both of them.
”I forgive you.” -

Strangers 5 months, 2 weeks ago”Oh, excuse me!”
I yelled after a family that had just dropped their portrait.
”Excuse me! Sir?”
They kept walking, the wife, the husband, and their two children.
”Oh! Excuse me!”
It was useless. It was a Saturday in the middle of July at Disneyland, they probably had about seven family photos from that day alone. I looked down at the picture I was holding. There was the wife and the husband, then a little girl, probably around three, and her sister, who looked around seven or eight. The woman had a small but pointy nose, thin lips, and eyes that looked like they were squinting, but not at something, just constantly squinting. Her thick, bleached blonde hair was a sharp contrast with her husbands thinning gray-black curls. His eye brows were bushy, his face was rectangular, and he was smiling, but not with his eyes. The girls were opposites. One had green eyes and dark brown curls that fell to her shoulders. She had a twinkle in her eye, and she looked like she’d be extremely mature for seven or eight. The other, I could tell, was a total brat. Her straight blonde hair looked like it’d just been combed, she smiled like she’d been told to, not because she was happy, and even in the motionless picture, you could see her pushing her way to the front.
I wondered what they were like. Was it just a stressful day? Were they anything like my family? Did the members lie, cheat, and steal, just to make their own lives easier. Were they selfish and cruel?
and then i realized i was too tired to think and went to sleep.-
I really liked the way you characterized your characters through the facial descriptions!
The only suggestion I would give is that all the characters in the photograph are described really well through their facial features without you having to blatantly label a name to them, so I would take out the line about the little girl and how she was a ”total brat”. Allow her other facial characteristics paint that impression into the readers mind without you have to write it down-
Yeah I felt a little awkward writing that one part. Thanks for the advice!

Strangers 7 months agohe stood there, paid for his cup of coffee. then, unusually, turned around and winked. i looked around to see who he was winking at. then i noticed that he winked at me. he looked about my age, but he was still a strnger to me. he turned around again, that was when i noticed his deep blue eyes like an indigo. hi, he said. i replied, hello. then he left and so did i. i ran into him the next day. hey, want to grab an actual decent cup of coffee with me? ummm… sure. i studdered out of my mouth. what have i got to lose, i thought to myself, he is quite cute after all. but then it hit me, i’ve never seen this man before yesterday and to be honest he was kind of suspicious in the cute quirky kind of way. then, i decide to let go and see where this could possibly lead.

Strangers 8 months agoShe stares. Someone has to. They can’t function well on their own, silly little things. Granted, it gets boring after a while. You can only correct the same mistakes for so long before you wish for some original imperfection.
However, if there’s one thing she’s known for, it’s never shirking her responsibilities. Even if they’re self-appointed ones.
He wishes he was her responsibility. She is so diligent. Too diligent in his view. If she turned, just slightly, she’d see him. Yet, on she observes, the same ones. No variations and he carries on unnoticed as usual. Granted, what we’re looking for is sometimes staring us in the face. What about the times it’s not? -

Strangers 8 months, 2 weeks agoShe was just normal looking. You know, just average. She could have been anyone. Anyone else could have been her. When I met her, her long, static black hair was spread across the back of her yellow t-shirt in the same way as velcro likes to attract fluff from God knows where. Her dark blue jeans were hoiked up as if she’d recently lost some weight. They were held in place around her hips by a black leather belt studded with silver, nipple-like buttons. Yep. She was just the average girl you could see anywhere. At any local gig or student bar or coffee shop. But as I got to know her, despite her looking the part, she wasn’t the same as everyone else at all.

Strangers 1 year agoI didn’t know who the girl was. But I knew she wasn’t supposed to be in this strange world. It was too bland up here, she was sure to whither and die sooner or later. I could practically feel the life escaping her as she sat impatiently by her sister, who’s head was buried in some old book that no one’s ever heard of. Heck, I could feel the life draining out of me. I needed a diversion, something that could get her down to where she needed to be. That’s when Peter, bless his soul, that little punctual rabbit ran right in front of her and her sister. Her sister couldn’t possibly have seen him, she was far too normal, but the little girl, she saw him. And she ran after him. Really, I think it’s a bit sad how some people, like her sister, are so inattentive. Anything could have happened, and she wouldn’t have even looked up.
Anyways, Peter running by, that was my cue. I followed them, from high above, of course. I couldn’t risk being spotted-not this early on. I had left my shadow at home, pinned to my pajamas, so I wouldn’t forget him. This way, there was no way she would even think to look up.
Well, this little girl, Alice, I had learned, she needed a bit of encouraging. In her sweet little blue dress, she didn’t seem like the kind of girl to go jump down a rabbit hole. And…well, this is when I tell you my dirty little secret. She never fell. I pushed her. Pretty hard, too. But she was fine, I even followed her down to make sure.
You must be wondering who I am. I’m Peter. Peter Pan, some like to call me. And I’m from Wonderland. Or NeverLand. UnderLand. Oz. Whatever you wanna call it, there’s plenty of names. Personally, I don’t like labels, but that’s just me. My job is to bring tortured souls, those who got away, back to their real home. I know, I know, it sounds crazy. But I’m not a kidnapper, I’m really not. Most of the time they have the choice of whether or not they want to be there, and they always have the opportunity to leave. Unfortunately, you all, the people up there, you know? You only hear about the ones who end up leaving, never about the ones who decide to stay. Really, a lot more stay, I promise. It’s like, a billion to one ratio. Almost.
Anyways, you know how the story goes. You also know about Dorothy and Toto, and Wendy and her brothers. They were the first ones to actually meet me. I’m not really one for introductions. Oh! And Mary Poppins, of course you know her. She’s like me, kind of a bridge. She mostly just let’s the kids stay where they are, unless they’re really in danger. She just gives them a little bit of magic- just enough to be able to get things done.
Now back to Alice. Like I said, she didn’t belong there. With you. On Earth. Some people do, but she didn’t. You could see it with every role of her eyes, every strand of her hair that rustled in the wind. If I hadn’t stepped in, she would have stayed there forever. Oh, I know, she found her way back. But maybe, she’ll come to visit us all, in her real home. Even if she doesn’t, at least she’ll know where she truly belongs; a luxury very few of us have. -

Strangers 1 year agoIt wasn’t an accident. And it wasn’t suicide. But you won’t tell anyone, right? It was me. I really didn’t mean to cause any harm. I just wanted to warn her. Then she came at me, and well, what was I supposed to do? She looked like a savage- her eyes were crazy, her mouth was twisted into a contorted grimace, her nostrils were flared, and her hair was flying all over the place. It could have been the ocean night wind, but I’m almost positive it was just her anger making it all stand on end. Anyways, she lunged at me. I pushed her out of the way, I didn’t want either of us to fall over. I meant to push her to the side but…well, she missed. The next thing I heard was her devilish scream, and then a loud CRACK!, BANG!, and then nothing. At the moment I didn’t know what was going on, so I ran home, and when I did, I threw out my gloves in the trashcan in the garage.
But you promised, didn’t you? No one will know?
