She stood in front of the produce section, frowning at the apples. Her mind was elsewhere, she barely even saw the apples in front of her.

She didn’t know how long she stayed in that same place, mind a […]

Kel stared at the four-legged beast, and he frowned. The long shaggy mane was matted with mud and knots. Helios had told him to take care of the horses, but how was he to do that when he hated being near those things?

  • He hadn’t meant to stare. The castle guards were guiding the crowd of people down the road, pushing and shoving those who dared to fall behind the main group.

It was not a pleasant sight. Most of the crowd had been injured at one time or another, and their bones showed clearly through their skin.

  • He stared at her, hesitating. Every part of him wanted to say no. He wouldn’t do it, wouldn’t continue to do her bidding. How many people had died because he always agreed? But he ignored these thoughts in favor of looking into her blue eyes, and he bowed his head, and said the words she [...]

  • The sounds of chatting old women woke her up more than the bright light from the sun. Kennah opened her eyes slowly, and for a moment she wasn’t sure where she was. Oh, right. She had meant to ask Narcus if she could stay with him last night, until she remembered that she was angry [...]

  • Jaelle pulled the blanket further around her and the warm body lying next to her. Soon they would both have to get up and begin their day of hard work. She wouldn’t see Riyah until later that night. Riyah was still sleeping, black hair falling into her closed eyes, and Jaelle reached out to brush [...]

    NaNoWriMo is coming!

  • The man is crazy. He has to be–there is no other explanation for it. And yet, it is impossible for me to take my eyes off of him. He is completely infuriating and downright confusing. But still I crave his presence, the sound of his voice, the warmth of his touch. Maybe I am the [...]

Kel wasn’t sure why he had once thought that traveling to a new place would be exciting. He had imagined adventure and duels and saving damsels in distress. It was supposed to be fun, and interesting.

Instead, there was only walking. And more walking.

  • He wasn’t visibly armed, but she knew him well enough to know that he was bound to have some kind of weapon hidden beneath the layers of his clothes. Carise didn’t trust him completely–she didn’t trust anyone.

But she knew she didn’t need an army when she had him to fight for her.

    “You shouldn’t do this.”

His voice rang clearly through the silent room, and Carise turned, slowly. She stared at him for a moment before replying.

“You think you know what is best for me?” she questioned.

    A pause. “Yes.”

  • He didn’t think that she saw him. He thought she was oblivious to the way he was kneeling down next to the small child, comforting the girl as she cried. He even went out of his way to help the child find her parents.

But Kennah did see. She saw all of it.

Kennah stared at the bed, a dubious expression written clearly on her face. “That is not a bed,” she stated for the fourth time. This was starting to get a little ridiculous. “Yes, it is,” Narcus told her as patiently as he could manage. “Just because it has those coils inside does not make it [...]

  • He was right. He knew he was–she was the one who was mistaken. It wasn’t his fault if she couldn’t admit it. This wasn’t up for discussion. The necklace was going to stay in his hands, and she would have to like it.

She would just end up losing it, anyway.

There were so many books littered around the room. Books upon books upon books. Kennah didn’t know where to look first. She didn’t even know how to read. The vast amount of reading material spread out before her was overwhelming. She frowned and glanced at Narcus. “All of this is yours?” she asked skeptically. It [...]
