Tabula rasa. I would love to be able to be a truly blank canvas – that you could give me a random word and I would come up with something truly original would be an amazing talent/achievement! This makes me think of children as well… you have to be so careful with them not to [...]

El wrote about the word gadget 2 years ago
Inspector Gadget was one of my favourite TV programmes as a kid. I can still remember the theme tune. I think I loved it because it was ridiculously inventive – kids don’t care about stuff like logic, they want you to push the boundaries as far as you possibly can. And it certainly did that! [...]

“We’re better, connected.”
How shocking is it, that when somebody writes a very good piece of copy for an ad campaign that it means whenever you see that KEY word, you just have to think of the ad.
For example,
“Every little…”
“Enjoy…”Oh the woes of consumerism!

A whole new world.
Whole of the moon.
You can make me whole again.
A whole lotta love.
Whole lotta Rosie. -

To feel wanted and needed by somebody is one of the main things I crave in life.
It makes me feel secure, and gives me a purpose. Something that I can mould my life around,
an aim
a point
and an anchor. -

Swept away by the wind, the sad little plastic bag tumbles over the urban landscape like tumbleweed on the prairie.
It’s short life is extended by this beautiful moment, where it flies away, free, and will not be pinned down into any rubbish dumps or recycling centres. -

I would dearly love for this website to be integrate-able into my tumblr blog.
But I don’t think that’s going to happen, is it?
I’ll just have to link it. -
El wrote about the word example 2 years, 2 months ago
I can’t look at the word example without thinking of the letters that are used to make it up. Either it’s the typeface on this website, or they are all exceedingly good looking letters. The ‘e’s are very beautifully rounded off, as are the ‘a’ and the ‘m’. The ‘l’ is elegant, and the ‘x’ [...]

Final.
Finale.
That feeling of sheer joy,
that you have finished the task and
now have no commitments.
The freedom,
to then go and do absolutely nothing for a whole weekend. -

It was a complex problem, to the novice eye. He was quite pleased with the reaction of his students. Everyone seemed rather puzzled, and they were certainly taking it seriously, thank God. One particular girl at the back of the class was particularly interesting. She didn’t seem too worried… Oh well, there was always going [...]

El wrote about the word strong 2 years, 2 months ago
Strong actually, interestingly, makes me think of Mr. Strong. The red square who ate 10 eggs for breakfast every morning. Why was Strong depicted as red and in a square? I think I understand the square – the equal length sides, giving a sturdy structure that’s difficult to collapse. But the red is interesting. Generally [...]

Times tables are one of my favourite things (except for the ones you don’t know, like the 13x those ones really annoy me). But I especially like the 3s and 7s, probably because together they make 21 which is my birthday. The 7s generally are very nice looking, lots of lovely shapes, 7, 14, 21, [...]

The woman could have been a bloody barber, the way she hacked at the cloth.
Eleanor Waldorf couldn’t believe how highly recommended this woman had come, as an intern – she didn’t even know how to do an overstitch! -
El wrote about the word outlet 2 years, 2 months ago
God, outlets make me think of the consumerist nature of today’s society. Sickening. The thought that you can get something at half the price sheerly because it’s not in fashion anymore is absolutely insane. Just makes you think of how much money they make when you buy it at full price! Maybe we should all [...]

When he opened the card he couldn’t quite believe what was happening. I never get cards on Valentine’s Day, he thought to himself, I’m the geek in the corner, who enjoys maths and laughs at jokes about tetris… Nevertheless, this was a bona fide Valentine. Even signed by an ‘anonymous’. Maybe he should take his [...]

how interesting that i wrote all this about ’revolt’ and yet tunisia, egypt and now bahrain have all been protesting against their current government!
In reply to - El wrote about the word revolt revolt would usually be associated i think with the word disgust, but personally i find the meaning associated to politics much more interesting. the idea of the people revolting against the system is very very interesting, especially as it is such a rare thing for people to do these days. these days people just seem [...] • View -
El wrote about the word invent 2 years, 3 months ago
This thing that she had invented… what had she done?
It wasn’t as much an invention as a monster, a hash job of other people’s creations.
It was a monstrosity. Crude, and ugly.
She was revolted at herself.
How can a good person give life to such an ugly thing? -
El wrote about the word tangle 2 years, 3 months ago
Tangle makes me think of tangled! Which I haven’t seen yet, but will on Sunday. I love Disney films. Whilst they definitely give out a biased view of the world (which isn’t great for kids, as they do genuinely grow up believing that people live happily ever after), it’s also nice to have some films [...]

Chocolate was a lovely, scrummy word! Chocolates are generally such a nice thing, however addiction to them is (no kidding) actually really difficult to deal with. I used to be addicted. I had to eat about 4/5 a day, or I would just be craving them and in a major dump all the time. It [...]
