There he is, out the window in the water. Cold coffee on the bedside table with rose petals floating in it’s darkness. You haven’t dressed, you stand wrapped in the pink floral bed sheets, on bare feet. Your hair shines brightly in the afternoon sunlight, as you watch him rise up his skin glowing in [...]

Image Notebook : 1 year, 10 months agoAn endless list of names and phone numbers, all representing people who will go to bed tonight holding their babies or husbands. Then as soon as it’s morning the same people will find themselves in line again, holding all sorts of tools under the blazing sun, wanting to at least make a penny to buy a drop of milk for the babies. This people, they are me with my scabbed hands and dry eyes, with everything at stake and nothing left to give. Years and years of wisdom stuffed into me so much that it leaks out of my pores and yet I’m not wise enough to clean the trash off your floor. Deaf and dumb like the dead babies that I will bear, and the loud noises that I will make.

Books under their arms they all marched up the hills. Some had all sorts of exotic fruits and breads and cheeses in their bellies while others hadn’t had anything in days. Girl from nowhere-town Midwest headed for the big city, dressed like someone with a past. Sure, when white [...]

I like it, will post one soon. :)
In reply to - avonlea posted an update in the group Write Now: I write this sitting in the kitchen sink. That is. . . - Dodie Smith, I Capture the Castle (1948) (If you’re looking for examples. . .) I recently stumbled upon a Web site that lists some of the finest opening lines from books, which I think many of us would find enjoyable to skim through (just Google ”the-best-100-opening-lines-from-books”–it’s the first link you’ll see). So I was thinking. . . Maybe we could take the opening lines from some of our favorite novels and build our own writing from there. Not too much–just a short exercise of about a paragraph or so–the objective would be to develop an intriguing opening just by working off a sentence or two. If anyone would like, they may submit what they came up with here. Just a thought. :D • View -

Kiss him from the neck to the chest to the belly to the legs, then lick your way up again, The cells can drip out of your mouth, honey, but that still doesn’t make them yours. The truth is you’re gonna make a lot of men miserable, so many that you won’t want to keep [...]
