Summer for forever 2 weeks, 1 day agoIt’s the evening and my room is slowly inhaling lazy early-summer air through the screen window, drifting over my bed like a warm air mass. It’s these times, when summer is just starting, that you feel like it’ll last forever, and it’ll always feel this good. It’s like the beginnings of first love, just when you realize that you’re in love, when you haven’t been rejected yet, when you hope and imagine and expect that everything will turn out the best. It happened to coincide for me, the beginning of last summer. But summer goes on. The air turns more humid, you’re up at midnight, listening to cricket chirps and watching firefly glows. You wouldn’t want the air any cooler than it is, because it has the feel of summer to it. You know you’re in the middle of summer, you know you can calculate when the exact midpoint of summer is – but then, you’ll have ruined all the summers you have remaining, because you can’t fool yourself anymore, summer’s not half-over yet. But it passes, just like the summers before and the summers after.

The window above it casts heat onto the sheets, and I curl up – wearing nothing but a completely satisfied smile.
My skin becomes liquid and my mind becomes mush.
I need only my thoughts to entertain me. -

I can relate to this feeling. But I wonder what reminds us of winter on warm summer nights? Or do we just pretend it won’t happen?

Summer for forever 8 months, 1 week agoWe watched gentle waves of it curve off into the sunset like palmfuls of baby curls whirling in a soft breeze in May. It wasn’t may any longer but we hoped that maybe if we sucked in a collective breath, gave up the secrets we held for two months in the parts of our brains we left on the beach–Summer would never end if we didn’t let it.

Summer for forever 10 months, 2 weeks agoThe water would wash against the soft, white sand. Rhythmically, musically, it harmonises with the coastal breeze, bringing the fresh sound and scent of the summer beach to invigorate my senses. We sit in the shade, forcing heat’s oppression to seek other company. We sit, we share, we speak when we want to. Most of all, we relax in the moment allowing time to wash over us like the waves on the sand.

Summer for forever 10 months, 3 weeks agoIt’s summer… so I stayed up all night again. I snuck into the pool, flirted with him, took all my clothes off, and danced on the tables again.
It’s summer… so I make sure to wear only waterproof mascara, light weight shoes, as many dresses as I can, and only sleep when I have to.
It’s summer… and I couldn’t be happier about the freedom, about the songs on the radio, the parties, and concerts, and your kiss… wow that kiss couldn’t make me happier.
It’s summer… my toes are burnt, my hair is blonde, my tan lines are obvious, and i’m falling in love with you… but only for the summer… -

They lay in the straw field the light wind brushing her hair over her face. The sun was out bright, it was a clear day. They were innocent, they were unaware of a thing called love, something they should never know that often follows, a heartbreak. Having discovered a friend in her, he was not to know how when summer ends they would part and he’d miss her like he’d lost a part of himself. She too would stare into nothingness remembering how his being with her made everything right, she just wouldn’t be able to explain.
Unaware of the beautiful feeling of togetherness slowly seeping in, he chewed on straws and she lay with her head resting on him.
When she would return next summer, he will show her his new piano, and will innocently confess to her his love, either won’t know what it meant, but she knew right then she will never want to lose him.
He said, “I found a box full of sound, in the silence I heard it sing in my mind, your memory gave me a lot to hum about, I will play for you something from my heart.

Summer for forever 1 year agoWanna be blissed out on some rock in Jeddah, stack of knowledge this high and this wide beside me and littered all over the insides of my eyelids, massaged into the pink substance of my healthy brain. Don’t wanna breath for four seconds after I’ve said my vows in his father’s living room with the family’s faces on Skype. Don’t wanna burn under anything but the created sun. Our Nikah will be shielded from the sun, even.

I’m so stuck
in the mud on the banks of yellow rivers
and lush green rice paddies
that I can’t even breath enough air in–
so stuck I feel the need to peel
the skin beneath my eyes with blunt nails
and tweezers just to see,
see what I’m missing, what I’m missing
because even without the noise
my concentration is shot.
In the forehead.
Hemorrhaging through the flood gates
so quick, so much, too paltry
that all I really want in life is to eat chicken,
