Their war cries were punctuated by the heavy thuds of rocks being thrown against our walls. The catapults had arrived. But this was not the end, right? I looked to our leader, her armor shining, despite being streaked with blood, and dented by weaponry. She stood on the walls, proud and strong, despite how they were likely to crumble under the assault of stone. It was in that moment that I caught a glimpse of her expression; despair.

softly her voice caressed every corner of the room, the familiar tune swaying me to sleep. How could such a thing have so much power? It was so simple, so easy… my eyes felt so heavy, only four notes into the song. Such a soothing voice, pretty soprano, dipping down into the upper reaches of the alto range. My eyes fluttered closed, and muscles began to relax, until with a solid certainty, i was asleep.

I stared at the bottom of the paper, where the letter would normally have been signed by name. Instead, it was a symbol. The twirled ‘S’ was a familiar sight, the ostrich feather quill that looped around it making it clear who had sent the note. But even then, i still felt frustrated. why couldn’t they just give me a name? This whole mystery thing was starting to lose its charm.

Desperately, she pushed her nose closer to the tiny hole, desperately breathing in the fresh air from the outside. Smoke still clogged her lungs and made her cough, until she couldn’t hold back the spasms of her diaphram. Coldly, she realized she was beginning to suffocate.

Tall city buildings imprinted themselves into her mind catching in her eye. She rubbed at it vigorously, irritated at the constant sting of whatever was caught there. It was ridiculous. This had never happened before.

“You’re off your rocker.” He sneered at her as she stepped aside, moving out of the way of his bulky frame. “There’s no such thing as faeries.”

“It’s a waste of time lookin’ over your shoulder, Buck,” Pop said. “You already know there’s a herd of folk behind you, better’n you at what you do, just waitin’ to pound you under their hooves, another competitor bites the dust. Speed’s the key Son, which you got, and cleverness, which you don’t, but long as you’re out there smilin’ ahead of the pack, you’ll seal the deal and no one’ll know they got took till the herd come through, and then, chances are folk’ll just be plain confounded by all the blather and tell’em to get the hell outta town.”

She turned to look over her shoulder, staring at the mess that was left behind as a result of their fighting. Shaking her head, she stepped away, and decided then and there that she was moving on. There was no more room for this sort of crap in her life.

He loomed over her, stalking up silently. With a startled shriek, she fell backwards, her eyes opening wide in horror as his hand brushed her shoulder.
With a confused look the tall man, bent a little, concered. “Excuse me miss, are you alright? I just noticed you dropped this, and wanted to give it back. He held out a battered wallet. Her wallet. Relief flooded her as she felt silly. He wasn’t donig anything scary.

Smooth and slippery, suds washed over her as water poured down to rinse them off. She always felt so wonderful after taking a bath, standing in the stream, feeling the current rub against her and take away all of the grime while it cleaned the soapweed from her as well.

  • Serryphae commented on the post, simplify 1 week, 5 days ago

I really feel like i need to simply simplify my life. everything gets too complex, and i end up so confused. even now, what with all the different people, and everything that’s going one i don’t know how to deal with it all the time. Sometimes I just want to breakdown and find ways to make things different. I want the simple things, like just going out for a walk. I miss going and talking to the trees. Hiking.

  • Serryphae commented on the post, beer 1 week, 6 days ago

I don’t understand why people like beer. I mean, I can understand getting it to just get drunk, though that isn’t my thing and I don’t understand that either, but seriously. It really tastes gross. It only gets more gross the cheaper you buy. I have yet to find a beer that is even tolerable. The yeasty flavor is just to much to me. I can’t stand the taste of it.

  • Serryphae commented on the post, stories 2 weeks ago

Too many stories to tell, i think. Just to many stories to tell.So many squashed up together in my head. I cant get them out. I want to get them out, but the words won’t come. So they sit there, grumpy and superfluous, and I want to touch them but I don’t dare… So many words. So many stories. So many stories to share…. What do I do in order to keep up?

  • Serryphae commented on the post, burning 2 weeks, 1 day ago

The flames seared her flesh, burning through her as her mind fought for control over her pain. There was no way to survive this, was there? She fell to her knees, coughing, fighting for breath as smoke fought her lungs, choking her air supply as she tried to inhale. It was all just too much. What was she able to do?

  • Serryphae commented on the post, rating 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Everybody wants a high rating on anything that is able to get rated. And yet everybody believes themselves to be a critic, judging harshly and not giving other people a break. Ho is one to get rated highly when they only ever rate others low? Its an ongoing mystery that is yet to be solved. We aren’t very nice people, you know? Always undercutting others and trying to make things different than they are. it’s a bit ridiculous.

What sort of mixup i this? Our timelines cant cross yet! You and I were not supposed to meet! Oh geez, it’s like Doctor Who or the time traveler’s wife! Weird, and strange and not at all pleasant! I feel like I know you, but I don’t! But you know me! NOT OKAY. Move along! This can’t be happening yet! I’m too young to die!

ring around me as I fall
I just don’t know what happened to it all
pale and helpless as it revolves
    I can’t stop watching it dissolve…
This love we had it was so dear
it didn’t matter, far or near
but now it’s cracking all apart…
I wish that I could save my heart.

  • Miss Alister commented on the post, ensue 2 weeks, 6 days ago

“Silence will ensue chaos!” the Dealbreaker said – the DB in pinstripes and adverse patterned shirt, tie, handkerchief and socks – floral, polka-dots, plaid, and houndstooth respectively. Does this mean he will be turning out in tan next? Or will he effect in those of us he promised to protect, a monochromatic aberration? I grasp at the colors I can still see and I seem alive – unless I’m typing this in an alternative existence – and yet my brain feels thick and slow and sucking down and down to the sound of the hound…

  • Serryphae commented on the post, ensue 2 weeks, 6 days ago

The first blow rang out, steel on steel, and after a second of silence, the battle ensued. Metal screeched against itself as sword met ax, ax met halberd, and shields bashed together. The cries of the dying joined it before too long, and tin the end, all sat silent. One man standing.

  • Serryphae commented on the post, enemies 3 weeks ago

    Snarling, slashing, ripping teeth.
anger beneath the surface doth seethe.
A cat and dog fight, but all is well
naturally enemies, as you could tell.
One can’t stand the other to stay
    eventually one must go away
all day they’ll carry on the fight,
until they go to sleep tonight.
