Bland isn’t always a bad thing. Not everything has to be spicy, or jazzy, or otherwise spruced up. Lillies remind my wife of death. So does the song “How Great Thou Art.” In fact, pretty much anything related to funerals. This can make for some awkward moments, particularly around Easter and whatnot. But I know I have my own issues, and so I try to be respectful whenever possible.

I spend a large portion of my shopping time worrying about oil. Hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, you name it. I try to stick with olive oil or canola oil, but frankly, just the thought of ingesting any kind of oil makes me feel a bit… mechanical, somehow.
