He sees the world a few seconds after it has gone past. The synapses and neuro-pathways aren’t wired to react so fast as maybe they should. By the time you’ve run into motion, he’s just begun to process the call, ”Hey! Catch!”
And so he misses, and the beanbag tossed from across the room thuds into his chest and slips down to the floor. And the pain takes a bit to process, but you’d think he already knew, since he’s standing there with a sad look on his face as the other kids jump about, confused why he’s living so far back in the past.
That is really well written and beautifully expresses in a way I wouldn’t have thought of .. thought-provoking!
