made

Your grandmother made this quilt before you were born. Every time I see it I remember her hands, thin, translucent, spidery veins going in all directions. Look, honey, just like mine.

you made me do this. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do, but you said I had to write about the word made. If I made you do this what would you be doing? I’m only writing because you made me. Hmmmm…. what is this supposed to mean? The word has too many ideas to write about, yet I have no idea what to write about.

maid

there once was a maid named brandy, she enjoyed cleaning the house that she was employed at. there was a small dog in the yard, and a giant garden in the back. there was nothing to be unhappy about because the food was fresh and she could cook well for her children. they were young, still in elementary school and growing bigger everyday. then one day she came home and everyone around her wasn’t the same. the kids were all shaped different and funny looking. the dog wasn’t so much a dog as it was a cat, and the food wasn’t the right smell or texture that it normally was.

commit

this is something that everybody should be scared of, and avoid at ALL costs. It is up there with genocide and terminal cancer in terms of the things the world would be better without. Anybody who does so, is an idiot and start raving mad. In fact, the only the thing they should be committed to is a mental asylum.

pleased

Wow, I cannot believe that’s how it turned out! I am just so pleased for you. The test proved that you are on your way to a marvelous future without worry. Not everyone passes the test you know. It was tough waiting for the results, but now you know. You cannot be happier! I am just stoked.

myth

A myth. Is it truth, or is it a lie? Civilizations built upon mythy, and they all crumbled.

carve

I don’t know how to carve a turkey. It is a skill that I have never had to acquire. Other people around the table know it. If called on to do it, I just say “I don’t know how to carve.” No one seems to care.

tide

it come against my feet again and again but i can’t feel it

Posted By amy On 06.22.2010 @ 10:24 pm

High tide climbs, climbs, climbs and culminates with a crashing descent. How poetic.

Posted By Amy On 06.22.2010 @ 6:32 pm

The tide was coming in slowly. The sun was setting. Everything was perfect. Everything, that is until a giant wave came in and knocked Melissa off the rock. Toby’s heart was crushed as he watched her get pulled out to sea. He brought her up there to propose, not knowing what fate had in mind.

The tide of the ocean sways in and out while the poor, defenseless animals are suffering during this tragic time in American history. They are stuck to the shores while the tide full of oil keeps receding away the hopes of sustanent life.

The tide washed up, softly touching our feet. It had that rise and ebb. We weren’t saying anything; just listening to the tide.

Posted By Amy On 06.22.2010 @ 12:36 pm

i can’t help but follow the tide as it rolls back out to sea. I just want to escape. But where to? Where would the tide take me? Will I figure out where I am destined to be headed in the ocean or will I just be tossed aside as usual?

suit

swim_, law_, _-able.

Posted By Amy On 06.06.2010 @ 7:41 am

the suit is always a problem on the train. when I sit, it crumples and when I sweat it gathers and scratches. I never feel very comfortable in a suit, yet we are almost required to wear them to work. Why? why be unhappy at work?

starlight

They say that stars twinkle on a clear night, but in reality, they are not doing that at all. How is it that little balls of gas, so poisonous to humans, can be so beautiful?

train

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to ride on a train. I always imagined that they would have brass piping throughout and red velvet seats with gold accents.

fireflies

we saw fireflies that night and thought they were stars. thought it was a good omen, but now i remember the boy who used to squish them as a kid. so probably not such a good omen, actually. some people, like you and that boy, hate them.

Posted By amy On 05.01.2010 @ 4:37 pm

Fireflies remind me of that Owl City song. That’s all that I really think about now when I hear that word. I think there were a lot of stories with fireflies in them when I was a kid. I always wanted to catch a fireflie and keep it in a jar like they do on TV and in books sometimes. But we never lived somewhere that had fireflies, so I never got to.

bubbles

Bubbles are ephemeral and float like dreams that you’ll never reach. But bubbles are also fragile and perfect and all the more beautiful by the fact that they are fleeting. You can’t catch them, like you can’t pin down a perfect moment, a stolen glance, a perfect smile. Bubbles are like life, only they shimmer at the surface for a few seconds, instead of years.

dolls

Dolls. The goal of every young girl, to be slender with rosy cheeks and long beautiful hair. A toy to some, a terror for everyone to grow up into an insecure teenager. Dolls. Want a pretend baby at age 6? Get a doll that will pee itself. Nice right? Young mothers. Dolls. Whoever thought of these plastic little models of the human being…
