marble
Agies, tri-color, cerulean, amber, emerald and phosphorous yellow. They gather at the base of an antique canning jar upon my kitchen windowsill. No longer richocheting against one another in a circle drawn in dirt, the marbles sit quietly and bask in sunlight beauty as I was the dishes.

museum
My heart is a museum celebrating love long gone. The caretaker hasn’t been doing her job though and the artifacts are covered in cobwebs and dust. Protective sheets have fallen and memories have been exposed to light. They crumble away, lost to me forever.

laughter
Laughter can change your entire outlook on life. Look for it in every turn and down every avenue. When you find it, embrace it, encourage it, and fill yourself with it. Without it, the world would be a very sour place.

flare
The fire would flare, orange and red when I’d throw on another bow of cedar. I cut down over 40 juniper trees to clear a small portion of land to build my house. I rescued wild permissions and mountain laurel from the cedars’ choking embrace.

hearts
Our hearts are entwined—that I know for certain, but the tendrils can be thorny at times, or damaged by blight that accummulates over years of togetherness. Can they continue to beat as one? Perhaps a bit of careful pruning will help us to thrive and grow.

abstract
I like to think in abstracts—to go outside that proverbial box and view an idea from different angles, stretch it out of proportion to make a better fit, splatter it with paint to liven up the visual, put its nose where its mouth should be to force another to see a different perspective.

icicle
trying to get back to my list of entries but can’t seem to find the one I just did using icicle as the prompt…there’s also another with my username, and sometimes their posts get mixed up with mine.

It rarely gets cold enough here for icicles to form. But I remember them well from my childhood in Central NY—glittering stalagmites hanging from my porch roof. I’d break one off to use as a magical sword, or a diamond unicorn horn.

beginning
Beginnings are almost better than endings—at least in love. When love is fresh and new, it sings, it soars, like a beautiful bird released from a cage filled with loneliness. For the lucky, the bird flies on forever—till death and beyond.

prints
Paw prints on my floor—raw umber impressions leading from door to bowl. My Golden gets thirsty when she plays with her muddy tennis ball outside. She’s learned to drop the ball before entering at least. No more splatter spots between the tracks.

autumn
I did autumn yesterday—but a quick glance out the window told me it is still autumn today. Crimson grape leaves twine into my hawthorn tree where juncos flit from spot to spot on the ground searching for scattered seed. Brilliant blueberry bushes flaming red catch my eye as it scans the yard. A flicker hangs from the suet feeder, oblivious to my form in the window.

The colors of autumn make my heart sing. I live in the PNW now, but grew up in Central NY. I remember one stretch of Hwy 54 that was at least a mile of sugar maples. Sometimes I would have to just stop my car, get out and take in the magnificent view set afire by the descending sun.

downpour
The words came out as a downpour. Before I could stop myself, I was saying things I shouldn’t. Where I had planned on a light drizzle to get the much-needed conversation rolling, instead my mouth opened and out poured cats and dogs.

combination
I like a combination of spices in my food: garlic and chilis, rosemary and thyme, cilantro and pepper, basil and salt. All are good on their own, but better when combined.

epiphany
There have been times in the past when I’ve had an epiphany—that moment when suddenly you understand what’s happening around you and what you need to do to make things change for the better. I’ve always tried to act when I’ve had one, and it’s always been for the best.

husband
I love my husband. Three’s a charm, though there were times when I thought things would fall apart. But in the end, we worked things out and now I believe he’s with me until one of us leaves this plane for the next, He is the love of my life and in many ways the one person who truly completes me.

artistry
I enjoy the artistry of typography in graphic design. I like making letter forms show the meaning of the word as well as tell it. An artistic font can evoke emotion or attitude and give much more meaning to a word than when it’s spoken or written in a word document in something like Arial or Times.

relate
I can’t relate to people who buy the idea that the rich should not be taxed because their wealth will trickle down to us. We’ve had over 30 years of that philosophy and it has been a blocked pipe ever since. No trickle, certainly no stream, not even a drip.

suppose
“I suppose she can come. I mean, really? Her? She’s not in our friend group or even a friend! I don’t like the way she walks, talks, dresses, does her hair! I can’t believe we’re even going in the same group! If you really want her to come and feel she needs to, then I suppose she can be in our group.” That is what the girls said as I walked by them. Who were they talking to?

edge
I love being on the edge of a cliff and look at the sea. It makes me feel so small and vulnerable. I love the smell when I am on that edge; the grass, the salty air and the earth. I love being on the edge of my paradise.
Posted By Andie On 10.02.2011 @ 10:49 pm
The edge of the cliff is near, and I don’t know whether to jump or not. All the stresses of life are holding me back but I don’t understand what you need from me, and I can’t choose now! I can’t choose now!

braid
She braided my hair like I was getting married! Well, technically, I was getting married but it felt so surreal, I never felt this feeling in full force before. Mike was getting ready as my hair was being done– I’m sure we were both equally excited at this point. I was getting married! Every girl’s dream and it was finally happening for me! How amazing…

pressed
I’m pressed for time and pressed for solutions to problems I don’t always know I have. The time issue is one I’ve been dealing with longer than I can remember. Even now, the gong is waiting to sound, and I’ll be pressed to finish up my last sentence.

convinced
I am not convinced that supply-side economics is working. In fact, I am convinced it’s just the opposite. But I have no power to control these things, and change is only a dream.

crouch
Paprika goes into a crouch whenever she sees my cat Scout at the top of the basemet stairs. Her front paws and head go down low, and her but raises in the air, wiggling back and forth as if on springs. It’s a joy to see this silly golden retriever, so obviously in love with a cat.

concern
I have much concern about the future. My daughter is 16. What world will she inherit? What trials will here generation see? It’s looking less like flying cars and household robots and more like Dickensian London.

average
She took the average number of pills on a daily basis. Vitamins. Birth control. probiotics. Pain killers. A sleep aid. The little weekday boxes lined her shelves, getting bigger by the year. She dreaded they day she would open the medicine cabinet to see nothing but boxes staring back at her.

account
By all account, I should be happy. But by my account, it’s not the case. I’m not really unhappy, but true happiness is a state of mind that I have not experienced at a sustained level for nearly two years. Hoping it will become more a part of my reality soon.

insect
There are some insects I like and some I don’t. Ladybugs, for example, are adorable. They tickle when walking on my palm and eat aphids on the kale in my garden. Don’t know what I would do without them! Some spiders, on the other hand, would do better if they stayed outdoors—especially the large, black ones with spindly legs!
