drain

Don’t think, he thought, don’t think, or you’ll be too scared to move.

Somewhere behind him he could hear water rushing through what might have been a drain, and the sound made the whole situation more realistic. He stared ahead in the darkness, his breathing shallow and oh-so-loud in his ears, trying to see the person that he knew was there but couldn’t see.

whim

He tended to do things on a whim, or at least that’s what everyone else thought. As I grew older I realised that what we called his whims were actually completely thought-out – if only in a few second’s time.

blotches

Blotches of purple on his arms and a cigarette in his mouth (it’s unlit). Smoke everywhere, it’s getting in my eyes and I can’t see anything but spots of colors; like the purple blotches on his arms, which he got fighting for the honor of someone he once knew. He’s kind, but not really bright.

ragged

His ragged breathing in my ear, I gasp great sobs and he laughs. I take his shoulders, push him off me, lay him on his side. His laughter has turned to vague gurgling now, but his smile is still as brilliant.

“To die laughing -” he rasps, “… to die in the arms of someone I love… isn’t that the best I could hope for?”

support

I stepped into the dark room, and the floors creaked ominously as dust rose up with each of my footsteps.. I wondered if the half-rotten planks would suddenly stop supporting my weight, and send me crashing a floor below into the hall’s marble floor. I found out that I didn’t quite care.

phrase

Frantically he typed, and typed and typed. He realised he was too late, hours too late, that he’d never be done. Then he saw that he had only been re-writing the same phrase, over, and over, and over, and over again.

notice

She was laughing and laughing and I felt something in my chest flutter as if trying to break free. For such a long time I’d been trying to get to her, to have her – and now I did…

That’s when I noticed the huge steak knife she was holding in her left hand.

“Hey, what are you doing with tha-”

route

“You don’t have to go,” she said at first. She looked determined and strong as she always had, and if I hadn’t been en route to another life I might have been convinced.

“I do,” I said. It was definitive.

She broke down. “Please – don’t go…”

stick

“I’ll stick with you to the end,” you told me – that was a while ago. “Like glue,” you said.

And now of course you’re going back on your word. It’s kinda like you’re forgetting your promise, only you haven’t really; you’re cancelling it, in a way.

“Bye.”

A whisper, then you’re gone.

wrong

It’s really funny how some people can think this is so wrong. To me, it’s just natural.

sheets

The sheets were stained with something red, Jonathan noted absently. So were the walls, the curtains, the floor. But he didn’t see any of it clearly: the only thing he truly was aware of was Sarah, beckoning to him, her blood-painted lips twisted in a painful smile…

believer

She checked the “F” box when they asked for her gender, and wrote out “67″ when they asked for her age. The next question on the survey was “belief”. She skimmed over the list – Christianity, Islam, Judaism – and checked the box marked “Other”. In the space provided next to it, she wrote out “Truth”.

“Don’t stop, believing…” some guy whines on the radio. With a groan, Daniel rolls over and turns it off. He won’t stop believing – he never was a believer in the first place. Believing in something involves too much effort. He’d rather just sleep.

amazed

Fred was amazed at his own ability to eat so incredibly fast. After all, he’d been on a diet for a while, and his roommate was a pretty fat guy, with thick bones – those were never good for his teeth.

bunny

The bunny hopped and hopped and this is a really boring subject to write about – what on earth am I doing. If I was my friend Liz the first thing I would’ve thought about when I read “bunny” would have nothing to do with the animal and everything to do with the Playboy models.
