choose

He looked at her with sadness in his eyes. She didn’t know what to think. He was walking out of her life forever. There was no way that she could get him back. Watching him walking away from her, she fell to her knees; he didn’t choose her.

assaults

We live in a society where many people believe that it is not ok, but necessary to participate in violent acts of behavior for the sake of vengeance as means to gain the respect through violence. It is a shame that this is our way of thinking but it is a harsh truth.

held

Riel held Alehi in his hands, a tiny creature with bent, glittering wings and sharply keen yet benign eyes. Alehi was laughing, of course, and Riel was beaming gently down at him. His contacts had been abandoned that morning, allowing his gaze to brim forth with all of its natural crimson fire. They were two odd creatures, the Vaki and the fairy.

belief

It was Misaki’s belief that no matter what good thing was happening, no matter how amazingly perfect your life may be, there was no possible way to be happy when it was as hot and sticky outside as it was on August 16th, Monday morning in Narita, Chiba. The air clung to her like a wet blanket when she stepped outside, and an irritated expression soured her face.

smile

Misaki smiled distractedly, continuing to color in the borders of her elaborate sketch. She was utterly bored with Saito’s love confession. The boy was dull, bland, predictable in every way possible and too conventionally good-looking to capture her interest. When he had finally stammered to an end, she looked up.

train

Train wreck. Trains wreck. I have never seen an actual train wreck. Misaki used to have to take the train every day to school. She didn’t mind it because then she got to listen to music or read her book. It was a space in time that she could fold in on herself, focus on nothing else that she had to do. After all, she COULD do nothing else; she was on a train. The only stressful thing was the possibility of missing a stop because she was so absorbed in whatever she was reading at the time.

chalkboard

He stood in front of the chalkboard, the dusty utensil gripped in his trembling fingers. He was unsure of what he was supposed to do. He was all too aware of the rows of people behind him, eyes boring into his back, snickers beginning to spread across dirty, sticky cheeks. His tanned flesh produced a rich, deep flush of red as he imagined them behind him, mocking him.

obsolete

Everything is becoming obsolete. As soon as I buy a fucking cellphone, the next thing you know I’m sitting down and watching a commercial about all the latest features and gadgets and what-nots in the even newer cellphone, and it’s all such bullshit. I wonder when the curve will finally level out? It’s exponential, you know, and there has to be a time when it finally levels out. Or when it is applied to practical, natural things. I can’t wait.

alumni

I’ve never known what the fuck the word alumni means. I always see it all over my college’s campus- there’s an alumni house, alumni clothing in the book store, and just the word generally floating around everywhere. I’ll admit I automatically associate it with frat kids, you know, and sororities. Therefore the same contempt that I assign to those particular associations are assigned to alumni as well, which is unfair because I don’t know anything about what it may be.

executive

One who carries out, makes the decisions. The action-maker. The thrower of the pebble that ripples the water. I think of business suits and colorful, yet tasteful ties, shined, expensive shoes with a facade buffed to match. Toothy white smiles that dominate otherwise average faces.

She shuffled papers, adjusted her glasses, smoothed creases and performed all the correct little acts that simultaneously drew attention and managed productivity. Those little side-glances were what mattered, and yet they were precisely what she worked so hard to ignore. She was her own person, more than just a long pair of legs and a slender figure trussed up in alluring business-casual.

digital

Digital is such a strange sounding word, referring to the myriad of technological treasures, when in its simplicity it is the digit; the finger or toe, and all, the stretch of everything.

tea

I drink tea for a variety of reasons; even if none of those reasons exist I still drink tea. All of my friends take coffee as their vice and when offered I shake my head and state that I’ll keep my tea instead. They look at me with weird stares when they discover I don’t like the stuff, but it doesn’t bother me, I like being different.
