The vase sat empty… Her birthday came and went and nothing. Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day their anniversary… nothing… How easy are flowers anyway!

bandage

The bandage she applied was now torn, bloodied and ragged. She had never wished or dreamed this could ever happen. Culpable as she was, there had to be a time when she could explain her part in this apocalyse.

princess

That was all she wanted, to be treated like a princess. Who would have thought that “girl most likely to marry the President”-Class of 84″ would end up a haggard drudge, waiting on tables to oligenious truckers and snacking on sugar puffs every night?

sublime

The music was sublime. As she closed her eyes, thoughts came of that year in Ibizia. The year she learnt to drink tequila (like a grown-up), the year she walked in high heels and a basque for him and the year she fell in love with Evie.

change

The change is the air was the first indication that there would be blood-letting. He licked his cracked, salty lips at the thought. Even as he stood on the deserted highway in the camel stetson, he could not contain the exhilaration of death. This would be the best..ever

dance

She could dance all night to the tune of the devil. Swaying in the shadows, she grasped the large posy to her bosom. It was tired and faded, a reflection of herslf. But when that beat came into her head, she could be swirling dervish ready to grasp the first innocent that passed.

grapes

The grapes were bitter, they reminded her of her wrath and anger at the family. Who would have thought to present her with something so symbolic! She knew it was for the brie, but to her it was an all too poignant reminder of life and the obstacles it throws at you.

veins

the veins in her armes throbbed as she clung onto the dumbells. She hated the gym with a passion, it was her nemesis, but she would damned if she would be shunned by high society for wearing the wrong jewels, drive the wrong car or be 2 pounds overweight!

favorite

Her favourite thing was to hide in trees. She gained great pleasure from this, as she knew how much her family despised any association with Mother Nature. In her favourite butterscotch frock, she skipped gaily into the cornfield to bask in the rays and then to hide….

now

Now…. this was the time. If she didn’t lean over her and kiss her on those carmine stained lips, there would never be another now. Life had played on cruel trick on her and it was time to dish out a little divine retribution.

finite

There was a miniscule, finite possibilty he had seen her hiding behind the vending machine. Even though she had put on 40pounds, had bushier eyebrows and had accquired a taste for nylon slacks, those green eyes wre unforgettable.

carton

There was only one carton of juice left. As he reached to get it, she slammed him over the head with the priceless vase, a wedding gift from Aunt Rosario. Damn, she thought, I should have used the grotty green one his mum got us from IKEA.

wealth

He had never been one to accumalate riches, wealth to him did not equate to a stash of gold, but something less tangible. The sea air, laughter, the clink of a champagne glasses and her golden lock of hair

only

If only…how many times had she heard that tired phrase. Now it actullay meant something. If only she hadn’t got on the bus that day, she wouldn’t have been charmed by the oligenous driver Ted. She wouldn’t be in a refuge for battered women. If only, she had walked into town that day….

meant

He never meant to strike her so brutally. She was his Goddess, but her ultimate betrayal meant he would never have her in his sight again. He could forgive her past indiscretions, but to sleep with their son. Never.

gloss

Her gloss was a strawberry, sticky gloop, but still no man could resist the entrancing bee-stung lips that it lay upon. When ever she entered a room, she’d lick them in anticipation, an invite to the innocent and a warning to the experienced.
