heels

She rocked back onto the heels of her feet just slightly. It was a sign that she was nervous. I think. I can never remember her cues. I struggle with that sometimes. It might be that rocking back meant she was comfortable; that doesn’t make much sense in my head, though. And when I think about it I always imagine her rocking back slowly, perhaps in awe, of something I said or did. I impressed her with it. Right?

wander

I don’t wander like I used to. I used to wander the halls of my high school, just to see who I’d run into. I used to wander the streets of my neighborhood when angry, kicking rocks with the seething hate inside me. I used to let my thoughts wander through my brain’s channels, finding new and exciting thoughts. Instead, now I just walk down narrow paths, closed in by others’ expectations. No more kicking rocks to see where they go.

almost

got my life in order, but I occasionally think about the regrets I have that keep holding me back. I am unsure of how my life will proceed, because it keeps feeling as if the best parts are done and gone

swept

i’m in love with a girl who wants to be swept off her feet. we have a magical story where i came into her life and nothing was ever the same again. she was suddenly gone. her old ways were no more and we were suddenly together. in reality, it took me 6 months to corral her. she had me swept from day one.

example

an example of a type of fish is plaice, the fish is a small river dwelling fish that lives off other peoples cocain and stolen drinks of purple cider. i wonder if my choice of drink is influenced by the house style.

be an example. screw that. you be the example. i’m tired of being an example. i just want to be without anyone else caring whether i be or how i be. an example of what? i’m great example of me. and that’s it.

control

I felt myself losing control as I was sucked into the void. My own scream was torn from my lips as the doctor laughed. There was nothing I could do; no movement, no sound, no savior. Then, my life was torn from me and I passed.

Control is power. I control all parts of my life. I control my tv. I control my video games. It’s easy. They are meant to be controlled. I can’t control me. My emotions. They’re free. They’re the opposite of controlled. I am the opposite of controlled. I am unpredictable. Compared to my television, I feel broken.

specific

Everything has to be specific, from your job to your race to your gender to your clothes. Who you are is constantly being measured by specifics. We won’t allow ourselves to just exist.

sage

Sage is an herb used in a lot of cooking. It can also mean a wise person. I thought of the herb before i thought of the wise person, so perhaps that means the herb definition for sage is the more used term. That is all I have to say about that.

wool

Wool is the outer layer of fur on sheep and is a fun word to say. It is fun to think of wool and imagine the Wooly Mammoth. Wooly Mammoths must have been extremely warm and massive during the Ice Age times. I don’t imagine the wooly mammoth to be as generous and kind as the one in the movie Ice Age. I’m trying to remember his name but I can’t remember at the moment. The Sloth is probably the reason why the movie became so popular which is annoying.

charge

A charge can have something to do with electricity, sometimes control. Sometimes moving forward rapidly at an army. I prefer the last of these examples. Also I like it when my cellphone is full of CHARGE. UNRELEATED BUT ALSO GOOD: BUFFALO BUFFALO BUFFALO.

alarm

The alarm buzzed with a vengence. I woke, startled, again. I swear it ruins my entire day to be woken up to that sound. It

Posted By Dan On 02.08.2011 @ 6:38 am

Alarms can be used for several different things, waking up, annoying people and ect. I personally refuse to listen to my alarm its very annoying and I couldnt use anything different anyways. If I was to use something like running water I would just stay asleep. How fucking stupid are people anyways. Lets wake up to the sounds of water.

rocket

well i live in houston so my first thought was to go to the basketball team, but i’m more of a mavs fan. the other sports reference i can think of is the shamed roger clemens, who also oddly enough, applied his craft in the houston area. this word evokes more tangible images, although i’m surprised that i didn’t go to a more ‘fast’ descriptive line of thinking.

solved

the problem was solved the moment she entered the room with her Italian flair and gloriously glossy red lips, riper than a new cherry on the first day of spring and full and ready and waiting for him, a waterfall of words on her tongue…

furnace

it was hot, really hot, and burning down the ship. no one knew it would come to this, but at the same time everyone knew the furnace was an old piece of shit. get your life jackets, get your bottle of scotch, and get your fucking little sister.

Posted By dan On 01.22.2011 @ 10:20 pm

No one dared too look in the furnace. No matter how loud I screamed or how much I kicked, they never looked, attributing the sounds to the age of the home. Every day I continue to kick and continue to yell and everyday they wonder what would happen if they had found me.

endless

tough one. not sure what i think falls in to the ‘endless’ category. sadly, i think there are some global conflicts that start to make it to this category. perhaps a big part of coping with anything in our lives is the fact that we acknowledge that there will be an end at some point; along those lines i suppose something that is endless is a bit scary in an unnatural kind of way.

Posted By dan On 01.21.2011 @ 10:38 am

Most days it’s absolutely endless. Java this, classes that, polymorphism, and encapsulation. I try to listen but then there’s Facebook, there’s E-Mail, there’s Stumbleupon, there’s everything better than Java. And then the clock strikes five thirty, the hand pauses, and we all grab our things, log off, and carry on through the cold night.

spider

can i say it’s itsy bitsy? funny this word should pop up today, as my daughter was singing this song in a different language yesterday afternoon. a spider, to me, is something that sets a trap and lays in wait for other to stumble in to it; not exactly the way we would like to be described by our friends…or students.

recipes

brings to mind a box of well-used formulas that a family has kept alive…or that has kept the family alive. it reminds me of some magical mixture that conjures up something new, something fantastic; without it the resultant would cease to exist. all people of real importance have one that they use for something special to them.

drain

He had traveled from San Diego to Philadelphia, a one-shot flight in which he had eaten only a chicken breast. As he finally stepped off the plane and into the cool air, he lit his cigarette and felt the physical drain slowly vanish.

edition

As I walked up to the bookstore counter, I placed my History book down. “How much can I get for this,” I asked. “I’m sorry,” she replied, “There is a new edition and we can’t take that back.” I feel like this happens way too often.

summer

sounds pretty good right now, even in the mild texas winter. there are all sorts of imagery that comes to mind, some tend to be stereotypical and others more of what i experienced. perhaps there is something pleasant about summer because that is when school ended; a type of freedom that we all yearn for, perhaps the weekend gets a good wrap for the same reason.

Posted By dan On 01.14.2011 @ 6:24 am

It was a summer day and all was well until the clouds came. They masked the sky in their dark tantrum and cried over the land creating puddles which later turned to lakes. As we watched from our rooftops, we wondered if it would ever stop. Naturally, we wanted peace again, but unfortunately, I believe we ticked Mother Earth off for the very last time.

wake

it seems odd that a word that can used for a beginning (of the day) is also associated with the end (in relation to a funeral). i seem to keep this work close to awareness or focus. it isn’t until you have achieved being it that you are really aware. i suppose there is the boating pieces as well.

Posted By dan On 01.13.2011 @ 8:56 am

I don’t want to wake up in this dark bedroom with places to go and people to please. I want to wake up somewhere clean and natural, not dirty and crowded. I want to walk outside and appreciate the morning.
