miles
Seconds and hours and so many days. Under the same moon, so many miles away. Me with your shirt, trying to cease the hurt. You with my letter, hoping things will get better. Dear John…it read. And with that, the tears start to shed.

near
I was overjoyed as the lights on the rescue boat came nearer. Soon, it was so near that I had to shield my eyes from its blinding lights. Finally! I can leave this island! Finally, I can go home.

sudden
There was a sudden movement to my right. Nervously, I glanced over and prayed nothing, or no one, would jump out at me. Nothing happened. I continued, but more cautiously this time. I was so focused on my destination that I hadn’t noticed someone was behind. A sudden hand on my shoulder made me jump violently. I felt another hand clamp over my mouth, stopping me from screaming aloud. I knew then, I was screwed.

lens
The “click” of a camera lens is the best sound in the world. It indicates that a piece of history has been recorded. A part of a person’s life saved in the split second the button is pressed down. A memory, a story, an entire world- captured in that moment. It is forever lasting, unchanging. Oh, the power of camera lens.

pleased
She glanced around. Pleased wasn’t even the right word to describe how she felt at that moment. Thousands of eyes stared at her, as she made her way to the stage, careful not to trip. She had just won American Idol.

tide
I’ve never been to the ocean.. Are there only tides at the ocean? I’ve been to beaches, but wait, what exactly are beaches? I mean, what body of water are they? Not rivers, lakes maybe. Who knows, not me. Time is running out. So it goes.

starlight
A thousand memories spark when I hear the word starlight. I think of the many times I sat with my true love, hoping, waiting, all there beneath the starlight. Starlight, Star bright, what will I remember tonight?

kite
I was on top of a hill, holding the end of the string and watching the kite circle and swoop above me. “There’s a falcon that lives in the woods,” he said. “It thinks the kite is its baby.” I believed everything he said. Our days were simple then. It was love, young love, and it was wonderful. I trusted truly and completely, without hesitation. Things have changed drastically since I’ve last seen him.

trap
There once was a mouse trap. It was a giant mouse trap the size of a coffee table. The trap was made out of wood. The trap also had a giant piece of cheese to trap the mouse. The trap would snap shut and trap the mouse. Then they would have to take the mouse out of the trap and real fill the trap with cheese. This trap was a very special trap.

reflection
Whenever I look in the mirror I see a different person. Sometimes she’s a woman, strong and happy. She sometimes looks lost and sad. She doesn’t seem to understand her beauty but it’s up to her to find it. She forgets and asks others to tell her and they never do it right.

lack
This website apears to be lacking. Why is lack the only word available? Do other words become available when you prove that you don’t lack the wordiness to create great works of literary genius?

stride
elegant walking, pacing forward, with confidence. Stomach in, chest up, never look back. Eyes gaze ahead to an unknown future. I’ll take it on, no matter what. What was was, and what will be will be. I am ready for it all.

deer
Running through the forest hiding in the leaves doe eyes like my own innocent, a backyard menace, soft and timid, leaping over fences like nothing, eyes wide in the glare of headlights, east coast forests, dipping heads drinking from springs

well
Well, it hurts more than a little bit.
One scrape, one bruise at a time.
She lifts the blade off her skin and blows on the crimson designs across the porcelain background.
Well, it could be worse.

tea
warm dripping drinking down, cold icy blocking sounds, letting it consume my thoughts for the afternoon brings peace inside of my mind. Lets waves of sleep crash over my body. Quenches thirst but doesn’t quite quell the need.

gentle
He burshed my bangs out of my face and kissed me gently. “This is going to be such a good year for you,” he yelled over the din of the crowded nightclub. I smiled, the underlying sadness going unnoticed by him. Yes, I thought, it was going to be a very good year for me. I gave his hand a light squeeze and took a sip of my drink. My good year would start by leaving him.
