curls
pink streamers and gold ribbon curls vanilla cupcakes and rainbow sprinkles vague memories of birthdays long past
adolescent giggles and secrets shared over curly fries drowning in ketchup crowded in a red vinyl booth
stolen glances, stolen touches butterflies and jitters curling around us both as we share our first kiss
rhinestone barrettes and pearl pins painstakingly placed, nestled in dark curls forever will i remember the look on his face
one quietly cherished night after another gently curling, softly enveloping forever safe, forever you, forever me

Curls into a ball — a potato bug — those prehistoric mini-dinosaur ish looking things. Curls into a ball by the window sill warming herself, my dog does. Curls

sweep
i sweep it all away then i eat what remains. sweeping the weeping eating the sleeping. weep the sweep. i love to sleep and i love to eat. then i eat the sleep.
ok. then sweep. then sweep. the slow back and forth of memory. the slow swish, swish of humble beginnings

clinic
white and antiseptic the patients wait for their turn in the cold little rooms, clad in paper gowns with their naked and vulnerable butts cold on the barely protected by paper sheeting metal table. unmistakeable scent of alcohol and disinfectant overlying the suble aroma of sick. when will it be my turn?

offer
Should I take it. A life for a few bucks. Nothing really substantial in the long run. A bit of gas, a few meals. Oh well, everybody’s got to live…

balcony
He stood staring in terror over the edge of the balcony. How many loved ones would he lose to the concrete? ‘Oh well,’ he thought.

loan
in order to get my new house, I will have to get a loan. But, is it the right thing to do? Is it vanity? What makes me want this new house? How do I think that it will really improve my life? The more things we have, the more stress that puts on our lives. Am I willing to make life more stressful by making it better?

want
Want isn’t need. It’s something greater that imbalances all sensibility and forces only a consideration of truth. Denying strength of logic and rationale for the sake of desire at its most basic and fundamental. Want isn’t need at all.

wish
Something that you can say outloud and it might never come true and it is too bad that there are a lot of wishes said in the world and a 50 50 percent chance of them coming true ifyou add them all up. I used to wish on a star for years for happiness and i dont know if it came true but i can only hope hope comes after wish.

lock
locks on a door. i can lock my car. a key opens a lock. I was locked out of my house. The size of that lock is too small. Lock the bathroom door when you use it. I can now lock my bedroom with a twist. I lock all my doors at night. Looking through a lock is difficult.

that dang lock – always getting stuck. it put her in mind of the fictional setting of the house being on fire and everyone depending on her to get them the hell out of there, but the lock was stuck – always stuck. Finally she gave it a good hard yank and it released its secure grip –

Unlock my knuckles… they are rusty and frozen. I want to let go…
Unlock my mind… it won’t easily open anymore.
It seems age should make this easier, but instead the hinges eek louder.

change
change. today we witnessed history. we got to see Obama become the 44th president of the USA. he promises to bring change, and honestly, i don’t know how we could go on in life without change. nothing is ever the same. i am always changing and evolving. nothing is ever the same at any given time. we can only be what we want to be, and we can only adapt.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. If you critize others and expect change from others, be sure to examine your own life versus focusing on the change you want to see in others. Change is like a butterfly…it is about growth….

A time for change has come. The glassy look in each other’s eyes. Today begins a new day and tomorrow a greater day than the last thanks to change.

change. it never seems to come. sometimes i think i must be, i have to be, holding myself back for some reason, otherwise i would be able to make the changes that so desperately need to happen. the only thing is, i have no idea what those changes are. i need to change. i want to change. i just don’t know what i need to change in order for my life to truly change.

bracelet
Bracelets hung around a wrist denote so many different scars. Hidden from view, they hide the past as well in a shower of purple, red and yellow beads. No one knows the secret of what the bracelets really mean.

beloved
beloved by toni morrison. that guy who wrote how to read literature like a professor continuously mentions this short story. it’s about facades and the rain being symbolic of purification. pft, like we didn’t know that already. sometimes i feel like the things i learn i already innately knew, but not as smoothly, i suppose.
