catapult

Catapult me out of your bed and onto the street, where I begin to walk home, my boxers in my bag and a donut in my hand, a song on my lips, a heavy feeling in my heart. I know you’ll never love me.

signed

The way is signed, the work is signed, and yet I can decipher my way through neither. What to do in this world of simultaneous rush to take credit and impossibility of knowing. I always sign my letters, Best

loom

the smoke loomed above her head, intoxicating the only clean breathe of life she had left. she choked upon the idea, not the smoke, that all of this was coming to an end. Tears formed from the stinging substance accumulating in her eyes, she was forced to inhale this demise.

truth

A very difficult thing. My sister’s best quality but she has no tact. Once caught in a lie, never again trusted. Very hard to achieve.

signals

There is a time in life when you wish you always had the courage to go forward. If the signal was always green, and you never had to worry about the consequences, things would go so much faster. But sometimes you need to slow down or stop complete, so that you don’t get hurt. But really, I’m young–let’s just stick with the green. AND GO ON

knock

There was a loud knock at the door. Louise picked up her cane and slowly hobbled to the door, favoring her bad hip. It was the paper boy, collecting just the way he did every second Thursday. “Hello ma’am”. Louise nodded hello, handing the boy the money. He was really the only company she ever had, yet she never made much conversation. She and mittens had much better things to do than converse with school children. She would much rather get back to her needlepoint.

Go forth and be productive. Love life, move forward. Keep trying to make yourself better, always improve. Love the world and all it’s beauty. Try to help everyone, never let yourself down. Keep moving along, even when you feel like you can’t. Just keep going. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

upper

He had the upper hand, he always did. His ability to pull his words from the air and violently throw them at her with skill and precision left her confused and breathless. Unable to respond or recuperate no matter how much she wanted to.

since

Ever since she was a child she enjoyed being alone. Playing alone in the room under the stairs as a girl, to impatiently waiting for everyone to leave the house as a young woman.

combine

Combining. Bringing together two different things to form one thing. Honestly, the example prevailing in my mind is marriage. I got a boyfriend this week, and that’s exciting. I’ve known him for awhile, and he was my friend. He’s a ginger. Yay. But anyway, that’s what I’m thinking of. Maybe it’s the love sickness thing. Woo.

I wish I could combine my different grades to create an A. Not that that is possible. Why am I failing? I don’t know. Perhaps I’ll end up working in a combine. Okay, I’m not failing that horribly. But it’s still dismal. Combines are nothing to be ashamed of, though. I suppose. Still, I wish I was doing better. Whatever. I guess.

signs

She was misreading the signs as she always does. Letting a fictional idea bury its way into her mind, and slowly grow into a full blown delusion. A delusion in which reality could no longer be found amid the mess of her obsessions and countless fairy tales.

vote

I’m going to vote this year. It’s the first year that I can because I turned eighteen over the summer. I have no clue who I’m going to vote for. I don’t particularly like either candidate. I hate having to choose between liberal and democrat. Why do you have to be so stratified to be a candidate with a chance? Why are individual opinions so bad? I know no one who is all Dem or all Republican.

Confusing thoughts were binding her to her own mind. She was trapped, unable to express her feelings nor stop feeling them at all.

He flexed his muscles as he slung his fist back and then propelled it forward into his opposer’s jaw, an audible crack echoing throughout the room.

darlings

“Come here darlings!” she called, jingling her keys and making strange noises with her mouth. The small animals ignored her efforts and the company around her snorted. They were highly amused by her ability to not just be ignored by the people in the room, but by her beloved pets as well.

misty

The air was misty as they made their way to their destination. Everything was foggy with tiny water droplets that cooled their hot tired skin. The group quickly walked down the street with their heads down hoping not to be noticed amid the drizzle.

zone

She was in the zone. For once, there was no negative thought holding her back from what she was about to do. Every regret had slid off her hard exterior with ease. Eyes set, nothing and no one could stand in her way.

concept

The idea of a concept. To understand a central idea and apply it to everything else you learn. It makes what someone else is about to say so important. “This concept is crucial to the rest of the course”.

texts

I think that most young people text more than anything because it makes them feel like they can say anything without consequences, like, teenagers could be completely vulgar and don’t have to actually say the words. Though, I feel it makes talking in person much harder seeing as they aren’t used to face-to-face contact.

The amount of texts between them was astonishing. One week of nonstop communication suddenly stopped. Once the relationship made its way into real life it just wasn’t the same anymore.

manners

He had horrible manners. There was no desire to please others in his actions and he did not fear offending the people around him. Somehow, that seemed like the most real thing she had ever witnessed. The most polite thing anyone could have done for her sake. He was not pretending.

assaults

She was assaulted by sound. Her ears were ringing, the floor shaking, and the world around her was spinning so quickly that it seemed like everything was coming undone.

key

It sits sharply in my palm, sticky with sweat and memories, and I know from the feel that it will taste of rust and iron and forgotten things. The hard edges catch at my fingers as I lift it to my mouth, and open wide. My tongue reaches out to grasp at it, all muscles and no hesitation, and for a moment I feel it there in the hollow between tongue and throat. Then it is slipping smoothly down and I think I can hear the click and whirr of things unravelling and reshaping and opening up, wide and new and vulnerable.
