festival
The festival was coming, and she didn’t even have a decent pair of shoes. Once again, she would be forced to watch from the sidelines in her plain blue dress as her friends paraded around in their fancy, garish clothes.

glimmer
Glimmer. The first thought that came to me: Vampires. How utterly depressing is that? Vampires are supposed to be ruthless, evil, spawn-of-Satan-esque monsters that feed on humans. Like something Sam and Dean Winchester would run into. Not a bunch of romantic, human-loving sparkly pansies.

desert
The desert was hot and dry and barren. Big surprise, right? The desert was exactly how would picture a desert. Although, I wasn’t expecting unicorns.

deaf
As oxymoronic as it seems, the silence truly is deafening as we all hold our breath, waiting for his answer. Time seems to move in slow motion. Finally, he turns to us. I can tell before he says anything what he’s going to say. “He’s dead,” he finally says, confirming my fears.

hurry
I was always in such a hurry. Always running, always shoving food in my mouth like there was no tomorrow, always giving a quick peck on the cheek before hurrying on again. Now the only thing hurrying is the blood pouring from my chest.

panorama
The landscape unfolded in front of me like a panorama as I reached the top of the cliffs. It was breathtakingly beautiful, the orange, pink, and purple sunset over the dark, roiling ocean.

prints
I was careful to clean my prints. I disposed of the body. There was nothing, absolutely nothing, to connect me to the crime. The only thing I couldn’t cover up was my conscience. I was weak, I got caught. It’s all over now.

tires
“He tires too easily. There’s no way he would make it. We have to stay here and fight it out.” “We can’t stay here! The Walkers are coming this way! Have you net seen them?” “Then what do you propose we do?” “We leave him.”

epiphany
I had an epiphany one day, when i had an assignment in class to write a story. I am writing about a kid who can turn invisible, who becomes best friends with a blind kid. Yup. Don’t steal my idea, ya’ll. Ima get it published. :)

conviction
She said it without conviction. “I don’t care.” For some reason, that hurt more than her anger, than her sadness. Her cold indifference was painful and left me wishing I had been better. Different. It left me wishing it would all just end.

mist
The mist hasn’t faded yet, and it’s past noon. That’s a bad sign. That means that they will be wandering. It means we have to be on guard. When they wander, bad things happen. People die. Animals disappear. Villages are destroyed. Zombies leave nothing standing.

deer
He was like a deer in the headlights. “What did you say?” I glared. “I said, ‘We’re going to New York.’ Now. So pack up.” “What the hell? Why are we going to New York?” “Because I said.” He glares at me. “It’s because of Drake, isn’t it.”

answers
“I want answers!” he shouts again. Tears well in my eyes. I have been strong for the last 48 hours, but it is too hard to keep my composure, to keep the tears from coming. He hits me across the face again, and I spit blood. “I don’t know. I don’t have the answers you’re looking for,” I say. He answers by punching me in the gut, leaving me doubled up on the cold floor. “Stop it. Please. Let me go,” I plead, sobbing. He raises his hand again, and the door opens. “Let him go,” I hear. I look up. “You shouldn’t be here!” I shout.

driving
I raise a hand to wipe my eyes, and the man in the passenger seat flips out. “I said both hands on the wheel at all times!” he shouts, pushing his gun in my face. “Cut it out! If you don’t let me wipe my eyes I’m gonna crash the damn car!” I shout back. I hate being pushed around. Whether the person pushing me around has a gun or not….Doesn’t really makes a difference.

brick
Bobby trembled as he watched the man hitting his mom. Hands shaking violently, he picked up a brick from the alley floor and walked quietly up behind the man, raising it above his head, and bringing it down with all of his strength. The man dropped, and Bobby’s mother screamed.

bulb
I gaze at my feet as the thin metal door opens. The light bulb flickers slightly as he slams the door. He grabs my chin and pulls my face up, forcing me to look at him. “Are you ready to talk, Daniel?” he sneers. He uses my first name. I hate that about him. I spit in his face.

lock
He flinched as she pulled the dagger out of her belt, and his eyes widened as she raised it. “Don’t kill me,” he pleaded. “Idiot. I’m not going to kill you.” And that being said, she chopped off her beautiful locks of golden hair and let them fall to the ground.

root
Jack pulled me up by the roots, leaving me exposed and helpless. Leaving me alone. Leaving me longing for death. Then, he came. That wonderful man that took pity and replanted me, loving me, caring for me.

wings
I stand right at the edge of the cliff and look over. It’s a long, long way down. If this doesn’t work, I’m dead. But I am a risk taker, a thrill seeker. It doesn’t get more thrilling than this. I back away from the edge, then run, run, and jump, opening my synthetic wings to catch the air.

step
The first step was the hardest. But it got easier as he went along. He had been mad at first, but he was happy now. Happy he got his left leg back, even if it wasn’t actually his. he leg didn’t quite match the other one, but it was good enough. (Inspired by Unwind)

skeleton
Skeletons in the closet. No kidding. He was still recovering from the shock of having a dead body fall on him as he stood and brushed himself off. Mable had said the old man had secrets. He just hadn’t expected this kind of secret. What was he gonna do?

cigarette
He threw the cigarette on the ground. I looked at him. “What did you do that for?” “It’s bad for you,” he replied. I scowled. We’d had this argument before. “But I am a sheriff. The sheriff always has a smoke before a job.” He laughed at that.

Jack threw his smoldering cigarette butt onto the pavement and stamped it out with his leather boot. He fingered his gun, an antique piece, a Remington revolver never used, and glanced up at the beast lurking between the deteriorating buildings. “Come and get it,” he said, his southern accent thick.

plague
I was plagued with an idea. A dangerous idea. That escape was possible. hat I was going to escape. I knew I shouldn’t be thinking this and that they could find out. They always did.

expecting
It’s never what you’re expecting, is it? Life just happens, and things happen that you don’t want or like. But good things happen, too. e have to live through the bad things to get to the good ones. We have to make the bad things into good things.

history
We had a history, him and me. One full of dirt and blood and dirty looks. So you can imagine my surprise when he called me asking for help. I mean, this guy hated my guts! But I decided to help. I’m a good guy, see. Except, he wanted me to kill someone.

cells
The white padded cells were all empty by the time the guards got there. The only sign that there had ever been anyone there to begin with was the dead guard and the note scrawled on the wall with something that looked suspiciously blood-like: Why so serious?

held
I held her in my arms, tears dripping softly onto her bloody face. “I’m so sorry,” I whispered, again and again. I leaned in and pressed my lips to her cold ones. She would never know how much I cared for her.

rise
I rise slowly in the winter. The cold makes me stiff and achy. It’s not good for the job I have. Luckily I have discovered the cure- HOT coffee and a few laps around my shack. Then, I can get to it. Then, I can hunt. Chase. Track. Whatever it is you want to call it.
