shift
Shift! Shift! Ohmigod, we’re going to crash! I thought you said you knew how to drive a stick shift! What were you thinking! Oh, you thought it was the same as driving an automatic? You are seriously deranged!

gallop
He pushed his way into the bar. There were more people here tonight than ever before. There was no way he would be able to practice his new dance step, “the gallop.” What a bummer. It was so sexy.

headband
I wrote about headbands yesterday, and then I went to my class and saw a girl wearing a really thick plastic headband and thought, I wonder if that hurts her head?

I thought the headband looked childish on her. She looked like a sorority girl from the 60s; but hey, who am I to judge? It did match her skit and bobby socks, so maybe she was trying to pull off a look.

incense
The smoke danced like a ballerina around the candle flame. I stared at it, hypnotized. My mother hated that smell, but the image was worth it.

frog
If you feel froggy leap. That’s what he said in his yearbook page. I thought it was stupid. Did I think he was stupid? I’d slept with him enough that thinking so would make me a hypocrit. I guess I was froggy.

A green amphibian. Jump. Leap. Ribbit. Croak. Live in a swamp and eat flies. Be lazy. Ribbit. Croak. Flying through the air on a lily pad. Swimming through green waters. Blue waters. A frog’s life.

shield
I put up this shield so no one can see that I am really in pain. Eating so much that I can’t see beyond the fat folds over my eyes. I wear these giant pants so no one can see my bulging belly. It’s my guard against your advances.

certain
I am certain, those less than I was 15 minutes ago. Will they come? Will I care? What will they say when they see the mess I’ve created? And I am still wondering why I am so certain that what they think matters. Isn’t that always the way?

spotlight
I do not like to be in the spotlight. I prefer to stay behind the scenes and work on the things that help the people in the spotlight. I am not terrified of the spotlight– I can go there if I have to. But my preference is definitely in the background. This applies to theater, church, and social situations. I am not exactly shy, but I don’t like to call attention to myself at all. I work very hard to get people not to notice me. Luckily I am married to someone who is the opposite.

handle
sometimes things are hard to handle. but also sometimes things are easy to handle. I guess it’s like one of tthose things as in which way you look at it. So which was to you want to go today?I think it’s always best to be optimistic.

tray
Bring me breakfast in our bed Pick some weeds with flowers on the end and stick them in a vase with water, like you care about their health. Cut the fruit into heart-shapes, make the eggs over easy and get in here with me.

arrived
December finally arrived with an icy blast. Last year it arrived very quietly but this year it arrived with a lot of wind and noise and blowing snow.

When the visitors arrived it was very exciting. One after another arrived and then the guest of honour arrived too. Arrived is the past of the verb arrive.

triangle
Three sides, all equal, and yet they can be so heavily weighted. How any other shape can even begin to appear as simple, and yet so complex as the triangle is outlandish, that is unless we are talking about the circle, who when paired with the triangle becomes the basis for an entire section of math. How

mute
I like to put the mute button on when I’m talking to people on the phone while watching the TV and I also turn into a mute sometimes because I tend to become shy around people. It’s a trait that I wish to work on and hope to not be throughout my whole life. I want to get out of my shell and not be shy at all anymore. I want to be someone who’s outgoing.

survive
Will I survive this day? Probably. Will I survive until then? Well, ultimately, none of us survive. Going to a funeral is the best way to remember that survival isn’t enough…living is what matters. Live, breathe, care, love. Do more than survive. Each day is a testament to survival.

modern
I just heard a discussion of the word modern. Is it contemporary? Or is it modern? What does that mean? It means early 20th century. It means Mies and Le Corbu and even FLW. Who else would be modern? Not the buildings being built today. Those are often just ridiculous.

permission
Must I have your permission to do everything? I don’t need anyone’s permission to be myself. Perhaps, in a different century, permission would be required, and, more often than not, denied. But this is today & I don’t need your for anything! But please, permit me.
