In the library there is solitude and silence. Within the confines of these walls, I can let my imagination wander uninhibited. I wonder if others experience this same freedom or if they feel constrained by other obligations. Why are they here? Are they here under their own free will or by obligation to write papers like literary slaves? I don’t know, all I know is that I am home.

Gum on the bottom of my shoe. Pink, stringy, sticky goo. Pink goo on hot black pavement. How do I remove you troublesome bubblegum goo? I no longer want to deal with you.

cathedral

In the cathedral, I drifted past the pews over to the statue of Holy Mary herself. I was tempted to spit in her face. Of all the times that I had prayed to her, she never answered and she never showed any kindnesses toward me. But I did not. I had learned to forgive.

celebrate

“Celebrate!” she exclaimed. It’s one day before what is predicted to be the end of the world. While half of the world is packing their basements full of survivalist fare, Marla is throwing the biggest party of the year. “We’re all fucked–and that’s OK!” she slurred and took another swig of vodka out of her flask.

On repeat. It feels as if my entire life is set on repeat. I do the same things day and day out, with not a single change. The trouble with this is that I always expect different results. Isn’t that a sign of insanity? Doing the same things and expecting different results? Perhaps.
