It was much brighter on the wall than it had been in the paint can. And if she was being honest, it was too garish, and a mistake. But that’s what Peter had said even before it was on the wall, and she wasn’t going to let him know that he had been right. It should’ve been easy to just admit that she was wrong, but she’d been married to him for too long to give up on something that was sure to haunt her for years to come.Posted By Mandy On 04.21.2013 @ 1:56 pm
Computer systems can be confusing but with the modern world we need them to survive. How is it that this world we know has become so controlling that we can’t merely leave the house without some of this technology. Cell phones, iPods, and even books can’t just be simple now; face it, humans are weak and we must accept that.Posted By Mandy On 02.01.2013 @ 6:59 pm
five: the fingers on your hands. Mine are bent out of shape from years of volleyball. You don’t really think about how necessary the five are until one is taped up or put in a cast. Suddenly the simplest tasks become difficult. Writing is painful, impossible, and near illegible.Posted By Mandy On 12.18.2012 @ 7:37 am
When an essay is due, there is always the same process. First a languid disconcern for the approaching dead line, then a sudden panic, a 50 meter dash to the library. If you’re lucky, you’ll get in the writing zone, the perfect mixture between panic and laziness that leads to optimal productivity.Posted By Mandy On 12.16.2012 @ 7:36 pm
It was all gone. He looked down at his grubby hands, grime stuck in the cracks of his palm. His money was spent. He looked down at his tattered tunic and his bare feet coated in dirt. His clothing were spent. Falling to his knees, he wept. His soul was spent.Posted By Mandy On 11.10.2012 @ 11:44 pm
“I know just what you should do,” he said, pounding the table.
“But I haven’t finished telling you the problem,” she was exasperated, usually his “solutions” weren’t going to fix the problems he thought she had, nevermind the real ones he didn’t have the patience to have explained to him.
“Don’t need to hear it!” he said. “I know what you need to do!”Posted By Mandy On 10.23.2012 @ 3:35 pm
It was a command to move forward. Only through investing in herself, she was told, could she really progress beyond the place where she was. “Don’t think of it as debt, it’s only debt if you waste it,” her adviser told her. But when she wasn’t sure where she was moving forward to, it still felt a lot like she was going into the red.Posted By Mandy On 10.21.2012 @ 9:05 am
If she believed in signs, she would’ve known that she wasn’t supposed to be there. Her closest friend had picked a wine they’d both loved in college–but quickly rejected upon receiving a pay check that moved their diet beyond ramen and peanut butter. But worst of all, the appetizer was pineapple, the one fruit she was allergic too. She lied and said she had a very large lunch.Posted By Mandy On 10.01.2012 @ 7:53 pm
they are usually dusty and must be spring cleaned about seven times a year. maybe that’s not true. exaggeration is fun. but seriously, mom obsesses about the cabinets. just like she obsesses about every other object that can be dusted, polished, and otherwise cleansed in our house. i suppose it won’t be my house for much longer.Posted By Mandy On 07.29.2012 @ 9:16 am
I put up the decorations, set out the food, picked out the perfect playlist, wore the most gorgeous outfit I own, put the dogs outside, tied balloons to the mailbox so there would be no confusion as to where my birthday party would be.
And still, no one showed up.Posted By Mandy On 07.16.2012 @ 9:55 pm
We’re all a bunch of hooligans, truthfully. There’s Jamie, the smart one. I never understood why she decided to hang out with us–the crazies–but after she made out with Janna–the slut–during the Homecoming game, I realized that she’s a lot more than I thought she was.Posted By mandy On 07.15.2012 @ 8:36 pm
My pie crust never comes out the way I want it. It’s always too dry and crumbly. I hate that because I LOVE pie so much!! I have watched many pastry chefs make pie crusts that turn out great. I swear I do the same thing they do, but it never works out for me. That brings me to the next thing I can’t make. GRAVY!Posted By Mandy On 06.29.2012 @ 6:49 am
The heart–no, the soul, or whatever it may be–is the distributor of our drive; it ignites the functions of our physical body. From there, a life and history is molded and made possible; raw metal heated and molded, dipped into water while still golden and bright.Posted By Mandy On 06.26.2012 @ 11:46 pm
