starlight
The bits and pieces of the falling rock were the most beautiful thing that she had ever seen in her life. The staggering amount of power emanating from them sitting twenty feet away made it hard for her to walk forward. She had struggle against it like struggling against a gale. Even though, she walked and struggled and reached towards the rocks, dying in order to touch the pieces of star.

glossy
The air condensed onto the window shield of the beat up VW van creating a glossy finish the van’s real paint job never had. The roof is opened and exposing the layered inner fabric of the van. Its a dangerous position but it is the most comfortable place to be.

ink
The dripping, seeping ink fell across the page from the edge of the desk. Full of the furry and life that the writer had been imbuing it with, the ink seemed to drift through the air to spatter the hard wood floor. She didn’t know how to clean the ink up having only her handkerchief.

bleep
The sound board was connected to the 80′s monitor through a collection of cords so tangled and warped and used it was impossible to disconnect or even really to assess the relevance of any individual cord. The only indication of life was the quite bleep coming from the tower.

berry
The juice from yesterdays cobbler fell gently from the corner of her mouth onto the laced blouse barely concealing her bosom. The blood from the gash on her neck mixed with the berry juice on her shirt creating a permanent stain.

vows
The way that the words fit in her mouth, sitting there, waiting, was not wholly unpleasant but it did not feel the way that she had hoped it would during the long boat ride across the ocean.
“I want to be with you forever Jack.”

gym
The way the scent permeated all of the walls brought bile up in her throat. There was a time when she would have enjoyed and loved the smell of working hard, sweating, and making muscles move, but now, with all of her body history she couldn’t stand it. The vomiting had stopped but the memory of working out and purging every day would never end.

dispute
The day that the comet came my wife and I were having an argument about the garden. It was concerning the perennials. She wanted them to be in the corner and i was more interested in giving the premium lighting to the corn and tomatoes. We were almost shouting at each other. I wish that i could still care about my garden.

cranky
The way i wake up in the morning, and walk down stairs to find the kitchen sink full of trash and dishes, and dining room and living room more full of dust bunnies than furniture and a glass of tea that has been sitting around for a week next to the couch, while my chores, the recycling and trash and rent and bills, are all done. On time. Complete.

powder
The girl’s nose was red from the cold. It was bleeding from the cocaine. She watched from a plush red chair in the darkest corner of the room as the workers cut the white lady with body powder and her brain grew darker.

natural
The place was desolate. The process of desertification had long ago turned this place from arable lush farm land into a broken and deafeated burial place for natural life. The dessicated corpses of plant life surrounded the base of it. The middle of the clearing. An enormous redwood, its trunk burned out, a hole big enough for a four door to drive through, the tree reached to the sky still tall and strong enough to continue into the end days.

burst
The pipe burst. The steam pressure was too high. The metal sealing was sealed with aluminum and lead with a steel over casing, and the whole thing ricocheted outward wounding engineers in a twenty foot radius.
The pipe was pressured to high, Roland knew that. He also knew that the only way to create the machine he needed was to use steam at pressures never known before.

figure
The painting above the mantle contained only one. But the room was stuffed full of mannequins. The only thing that kept Fidan from dashing out of the room immediately was the thought that all these mannequins were just overgrown puppets. Puppets like what her father used to play with and make her laugh after family dinners. The Russian vodka bottle on the night stand titled over and spilled two drops onto the carpet.

confusion
There is a beach that I visited earlier today. And at the beach i ran into a child that had been left there by myself. There were bones sticking out of the child’s ankle where the leg had been broken but she was not crying. And as he crawled toward me i looked up into the sky and saw an absolutely enormous bird flying over the mountains and into the most glorious pollution derived sunset of my life.

tower
The sky seemed to far at the beginning of the evening, but by the next day the tower reached so far above the trees it was tickling the belly of clouds. All the people working on it were consumed by the idea of reaching the sky.

coat
There is a long, black, in city Navy coat in my Father’s closet. It was his Father’s before him. I wonder sometimes when I wear it whether or not he carried a gun in one of the pockets, and with my arms in the coat I practice unholstering the imaginary weapon.

fold
When the people of the dunes were brought into the fold and carried through their terror by the faith, they knew they had found the answers they were looking for. They need not be sad any longer. What is our purpose here? Worship God. What are we doing? Worship God. Where are we going? Worship God. etc. etc. etc. Dog.

headband
The ball smacked the ground in quickly increasing tempo. Boom, boom, boom the orange faux leather beat the pavement, white lines, cracks and crags. The hoop felt the barest brush as she flew straight down sliding silkenly through the mesh hanging below.

stem
The beginning of it all, of course. The only thing that everybody could agree on. There was some small mutations at first, nothing that surprised anyone enough to take off their head computers and digital recording and streaming equipment. But eventually the more severe mutations became noticeable in general culture. One day I saw a man tearing at a crack in the sidewalk, crying, bloody, and clearly in pain, as the vines growing out of his back scrabbled for purchase in the unyielding cement.

bee
Talking about it never made it any easier for Clifford. The birds and the bees confused and astounded him. Relating a biological natural process where pollen is transferred from flower to flower by the industrious and admirable bee to the horrifically disgusting and bestial act of copulations. Disgust.

arrived
The time has. And it’s not going anywhere. With all of the shit getting thrown around these days concerning this or that political movement and the protests associated with it. There is absolutely no way that anyone can be expected to participate in all the unruly life affirming activism. But dammit some people will try.

letters
The place where the back of the swoopng ambersand landed on the front of the widely, archaically lettered M reminded Jin of having a lover nestle up into the crook of his shoulder, oblivious of body odor, contented, smiling, and safe.

found
The cat drifted down the river of trash and fesces and other dead animals snorting filth out of its nostrils tipping to and fro on an old television barely floating. When the boy found the cat he had almost died.

triangle
The way their love worked for one another was complicated and often misunderstood by the neighbors. Fred always just figured that Dan of the triangle was a poofter and that’s how he got along with the other two who were clearly passionately in love, once even being busted by the police for having sex in the back yard. But when Dan was asked if he was queer, he slightly tilted his head as a bird would, looked Fred right in the eye, and then kicked him in the balls.

drops
The petals exploded outward, the snarling mask of a kanji spitting acid, they fall in a broken circle, still wet.

snap
The place he ended up was not where he meant to travel to. After the snap there was no conscious thinking only movement only walking. He saw a woman with glowing eyes on his way into the skyscraper but there was nothing surrounding her but stars and he couldn’t understand what was happening. At the reception desk the nice girl with the revealing top leaned forward and told him, “You are number 8,386, please take a seat over there and mind the acid dripping from the ceiling, we are having plumbing issues.”

outlet
The water seeped and dripped out of the wall, staining the sheet-rock a deep dark grey, and completely covering the outlet. I looked at the cord in my hand and looked at the outlet, and then at the cord in my hand. “What was it Mum used to say about outlets and water?”

yoga
The steam rising off of his body as he left the sauna obscured my vision of his face, but it also lent him an angelic air. The street light beaming down yellow was suddenly covering him with gold, and as his jacket opened slightly in the wind, his distinct ab muscles and erect nipples sent a shiver down the back of my neck. My hair stood on end.

pills
The size of the blue green pill was the most disconcerting part. Once when Jack was a young kid he had tried to swallow his acne medication and gotten the pill lodged in his esophagus. Later he found that the months of pain had been because the drug had burned a hole in his throat.

options
The position he took against the dog left him three options. When the dog snarled again, teeth and fangs flashing, spittle flying at the walls and all over the fur on his face the first was decidedly the most attractive. First, round house kick perfectly timed, jaw dislocation. Second, a punch straight into the nose. Third, dodge the initial lunge, jump the fence run for safety.
