I was sure he was going to call. We had such a nice time. He asked for my number. He kissed me good night. Certainly, that meant he was going to call.

I scatter the hair clippings around my yard. My baby had his first haircut. I thought to save some, but decided instead to fortify the nest of other fledglings who will have to leave the nest long before he does.

I see the crane in the shallows of the cove, searching for fish, for sustenance. I, too, search for sustenance in the cold waters, but find none. It’s difficult for everyone. This earth tries to provide, but can be thwarted by the very beings it tries to feed.
