catapult
You exchange insults with me, as natural as breathing, just like the catapults of old. The very machines of brutality and death that we ourselves once stood manning. We throw verbal boulders at each other with the intent to kill. And as always, both survive to hurl another day.

magenta
‘For the hundredth time, Wright, the colour of my suit is “magenta”, not “pink”!’
‘I’m only calling it as I see it, Edgeworth. And it isn’t like pink isn’t a nice shade, anyway. Real men wear pink, don’t they?’
‘Then, by all means, dye your suit pink – and I mean the true pink colour – and wear it next time you go to court. Although I fear without your trademark blue you would be next to impossible to recognise.’

broadcast
The BBC – The British Broadcasting Company has been under some flak recently. I know it’s not a perfect organisation – was there ever? – but I can’t help but think of it very fondly still.

under
When all the facade that is our clothes, our makeup, our skin, our bones, are all stripped off, lay only our soul.

shorthand
I very seldomly use shorthands, especially in circumstances where most of my peers would have used words like ‘u’ for ‘you’ or suchlike. I just like to spell the words out in its complete and nice entirety. Of course one is allowed certain leeway when one is taking notes in class, for example, but my writing is so much more legible than most.

tasting
All of a sudden there was the tang of blood in my mouth, bitter and heavy, lodged in my teeth and refused to go away. I swept my tongue around, trying to find the source of the bleeding, but without success. That strange iron taste still lingered.

separate
Sometimes the feeling of separations from the world is not necessarily one of loneliness. Sometimes it just feels great to be isolated in your own mind, to understand that it is you who understand yourself the best, and feel comfort in that fact. Sometimes the outside world is simply too much and too strange and too cruel for you to bear connection.

earring
Earrings, strangely, in my culture are considered an ornament only fitting to people of a female persuasion. In fact, most girls are forced by their parents to get their ears pierced at a very young age – which is a ridiculous notion if you ask me. I’ve always liked to keep my body unmarred, and by some miracles I’ve been able to convinced my mum for me to stay that way, but still.

nourish
The source of one’s nourishment is usually considered to be food, drinks, or any of the physical and tangible thing that one absorbs into one’s system. However, for me, I feel most nourished when I’m immersed in words and in knowledge and in love, the nourishment of the brain.

bitten
One of the reasons why I have always been so averse of dogs is that I’m scared to death of being bitten. Especially when I’ve poured out my affections and given them my most endearments and they would turn on me and bite the hand that pet them…It’s what kept me from approaching and only admiring from afar.

puddle
There is a song in the Vietnamese nurseries about a girl who fell into a puddle and got all wet and was picked up by her dad. It is true, puddles are an extremely messy and muddy business that I’ve never felt the urge to indulge in despite my fellow classmates’ tendency to fool around in them.

ruby
Ruby is usually commonly used in making jewelry of all sorts, and is considered to have a very nice shade and shiny appearance that appeal to those who like adornments on their body. However, for me, I like it best as a colour, the shade of red that is entirely so enticing especially as a description of a certain fictional character’s eyes.
