castle

I sometimes wish I lived in a castle, being the beautiful princess that everyone favors and wants to be with. I may not have a castle, and I may not have a lot of people that desire me, but I know I have a few that will always be there and love me and want me in their life. That is more important to me, but the fantasy still exists.

prosperous

I do not like the word prosperous. It implies that a person has to be rich to be described as this word because usually riches and prosperous are used in conjunction with one another. Prosperous can also be used to refer to the crop yield for a farmer. But I think prosperous should mean something different to everyone and it shouldn’t be dependent upon their wealth or lack thereof.

The man riffled through the pockets of the corpse, cursing under his breath. This fellow hardly had a dime to his name. “Thanks for the help.” He drawled sarcastically, kicking the body as he crept away.

setting

The planet was a darksome shade of grey. The dust clinging to its surface was a sickly yellow that sat gloomily on the boots of the soldiers as they passed. One of them, a younger, inexperienced fellow, shuddered as he passed the boneyard. The others snickered at him.

concern

Feeling of hurt for someone else, caring and worrying, but in such a gentler way. A bit oppressing, the mother telling her daughter not to do this, not to try that. The dad telling her not to date until she’s thirty, to stay close.

average

Most things are average. Some things are exceptional and some things aren’t worth it. For the most part I am glad most things are average. I couldn’t live in the stress exceptional can bring nor could I live with the loss that nothing brings.

silk

soft, hard to wash, sometimes snags, made by worms! makes me think of china and the color red, also of bedsheets (though I have never had silk sheets – [perhaps I am confusing it with satin?] I drink a soy milk brand called Silk sometimes. It is expensive and cheesy men wear shirts made from it.

sinking

and it isnt just you, it’s everybody that’s what they say it’s never just you, or just anybody but everybody’s moving, sinking, rising, laughing crying never saying still. I used to watch them moving around, driving in their cars and watching the world go by and the water run down the windows and the deep breaths that everybody takes before they go under. even if they have stones in their pockets they take that breath, because I guess it’s too difficult otherwise. Or human nature. Not sinking, not waving, perhaps not even drowning. Perhaps I am, perhaps we all are, or perhaps nobody is. Not sinking at all, just spinning in space.

deer

I like deer, more or less. Unless they’re the deer that try to eat you, like in LOTRO. those deer aren’t cool at all. they’re vicious and mean. i don’t like hunting, though. hunting is bad. i couldn’t imagine shooting an animal, but i can definitely see myself eating one. i like eating deer meat if it’s cooked properly, but if it’s cooked wrong i don’t want anything to do with it. it tastes nasty and is tough and hard to ear. it’s just not something i’m into.

brick

Bricks are the building blocks used to build structures meant to pass the test of time. They are usually red, some people paint them. They can be formed to create designs of your choice.

lock

The lock hides things away. It hides away lies and truths. It protects, but it also deceives. It hides secrets, never to be heard of again. But sometimes the lock breaks, and everything spills out into the World. When the lock breaks, people do too.

lightning

there was never anything wrong with wondering about who he was or who i was but then there was a lot of lightning and that happened and the storm was never the important part but that’s what we remember about it. it’s all schadenfreude and the thunder is an abstract idea, you can’t touch it. nobody gets struck by thunder it’s the lightning. in any case it didn’t matter because the storm didn’t last a whole lot of time and nobody was hit nobody that I met or will ever meet. I just know that it’s a lot of volts and it’s hard to have an argument about spaghetti when there are so many volts and so much power going on above rumbling, though I suppose that’s the thunder but it’s a precursor, or at least a big part of the rest of what happened. it’s like talking to you when you’re sober or on the phone and you’re voice goes high but I can’t tell if that’s the connection or emotion or maybe it’s lightning, off in the distance, hitting an ugly metal structure and causing you to sound a little softer and a little sadder than you ever used to or ever have since, except on the phone when you let me call you at night when I’m watching TV and somebody looks like you or I need to ask a question about sport, or something we did when I was a child and you were barely there or when there’s a storm and you don’t hear me at the best of times and I forget full-stops when I’m mad and it starts off like water running in your drainpipes and before I realise it’s started there’s hail and then floods and then the black clouds come rolling in and the lights in the sky at least make some people feel alive and some people safe, hiding in cars or under trees if they don’t know any better and all I really have left is you at the other end of the phone and so I hope that lightning doesn’t strike twice, and that your voice does that all on its own when you hear me and the laughter that I see in pictures is the same and will tell a story and my wrinkles and my eyes and my burns, which turn to scars and storms which set trees on fire and lightning does nothing but light up the sky and put people in the paper.

violet

Flowers. Purple. I love purple flowers. They are always really pretty. Purple is my favorite color, I’m pretty sure violet is a shade of purple isn’t it? I’m not really positive but I’m pretty sure. I love flowers. My mom plants them all over the yard.

etiquette

Her wrinkled hands were laced in aged etiquette, yet there was no reason to be formal. Not in front of her old peers, who had seen her at her worst-the braces and frizzy hair phase–still, she clung to the notion that she had something to prove to all of them. That even 10 years later, she was good enough to be in their circle.

mean

Average. Cruel. Why are people mean? I’ve been mean before and I hate myself for it. Nasty words and cruel names with sewage-waste mouths of contempt and disgrace. Angry faces and knives in side, twisting them and laughing. People are mean to each other and it tears us apart, Lisa. Tears us apart.

stem

The rose stood proud and tall it’s stem bending ever so slightly in a gentle breeze. It was so supple it would not break with the lightest breath, even as the rose appeared able to do so. If the wind blew harder the rose would begin to bow as though about to engage in a beauteous dance.

lust

usually has a bad connotation to it… or a sexy one.. but really I think this is just a word that means passion… you lust over someone, something – you have great passion for them or it. Lust is not a dirty word, it’s sensual in all facets of life.

antlers

Antlers are on dears. The tend to be really big. Sometimes they are nubs. Deer fight with them and pick stuff up with them. They look like reindeer and are cute with pretty lights.

Posted By Beth On 06.26.2011 @ 11:07 am

I think of deer when I think of antlers. I think of the small state of Ohio that I moved to from the large state of California nearly a year ago. I think of being shocked when I saw the head of a deer over someone’s mantle and now, I don’t even blink. It’s funny how quickly your perspective and what is “normal” to you change and how fast it happens.
