lock
“I can’t pick a lock!” I complained. “Oh, come on, it’s not that hard,” my brother told me. “It’s easy. Just stick that little bit in there, and the pokey thing goes over it, jiggle a little, and click goes the lock.” “It can’t possibly be that easy,” I told him. “Just try it. You may be surprised.”

change
“Gimmie my change,” the old man growled. Rolling her eyes, Constance carefully counted out the man’s change and handed it to him. He dropped half of it on the counter and glared at her. “Stupid little bitch,” he grumbled again. Constance wanted to hit the old jerk, but bent to help pick up the change.

dance
Dance! Sing! Laugh! Drink! These are the things I associate with dancing. Especially the drinking part. I don’t really know why, shyness I suppose, but if I’m going to go out and shake my booty in front of people, I find it really helps to have a drink or three first. My drink? Long Island Iced Teas tend to get my motor running.

veins
Her veins were filled with blood. So were her arteries I suppose, but those aren’t the ones you can see. She didn’t have huge veins, not like a body builder, but neither were they tiny and delicate. They were just little hoses full of blood. This is the weird shit you notice when you’re a vampire who hasn’t eaten enough lately.

sidewalk
Walking down the sidewalk, I took a moment to stop at my favorite newsstand and pick up the paper. With naught but an off color joke to the guy at the stand, I was off to work. I weaved through the blocks, taking care never to touch sunlight for more than a second or two, and I made it in plenty of time. Work ho!

mellow
Mellow is not a word I would use to describe Derrik. He’s… shall we say… how to put this nicely? Busy? An A-type personality? A prick? Yeah, let’s go with option three. He’s really a prick. He’s always running, always falling from crisis to crisis. What a pain in the ass.

gear
“Gear up, boys,” yelled sarge. It was hard to hear him over the constant noise of the air blowing by the open rear end of our plane, but we all grabbed our gear, strapped it on, and prepared to jump out of the plane. It was a routine jump, but as all my previous jumps had proved, even with the best gear in the world, it’s scary to jump out of a plane.

muse
My muse… What can I say about her? Other than I’m sure she’s a her since her presence just kind of evaporates or tells me useless things about the wrong subject half the time. I think my muse is a bitch. Some of the time she’s filling me with great information, but her favorite time to tell me great ideas is when I’m either asleep, or falling asleep. Not so helpful, even if fascinating.

hover
The amount of strength needed to hover is immense. Flapping and keeping a sixty foot long frame up is not easy, I assure you. Hovering can certainly be useful, either for a quick conversation, or a nice floating fire station, but it is tricky and difficult to pull off well.

aware
Never had I been so bloody aware of the length of my hair. I nervously shook my hair out of my eyes as the man interviewing me stared at me. He had glanced at my hair more than once, but had refrained from commenting. I was so nervous that it was affecting my chances for this interview.

suspend
I’m afraid you’ll have to suspend your disbelief for a moment if we’re going to have a serious discussion about the nature of magic. I know you’ve gone on with your life for years under the belief that magic doesn’t exist, but take it on a little faith that it does. I should know, as I’ve been using it for most of my life. My livelyhood is magic. It’s real. How’s that disbelief coming?

path
Walking the path of the warrior is a long and arduous path. It is not one to be taken lightly. Even the strongest of men can be laid back by the intensity and power of the path of Bushido, and even the greatest of men sometimes quail before the horrors before them. Each warrior must learn how he can walk the path.

bulb
Digging deeper, the little rodent bastard found the bulb I’d left there for him. This was our yearly competition, seeing who would win in the war of my garden. However, this year I was sure to win. The little wire attached to the bulb pulled tight then taught. Little rodent: Boom! Ha! I win this year.

crown
The crown he wore was uncomfortable. It itched and shifted and ever fell over his eyes. They said that the weight of the crown would be more than he could bear, but the irritation of the bloody thing moving around was more than he could bear. He growled and plucked at the thing as his subjects spoke.

flight
Taking flight, the mugger ran as fast as he could from his target. He’d meant to hit him, but he didn’t mean to hit him so hard. The blood, all that blood, was not what he had in mind. Still, the money he got out of the deal might make the day worth it. He grimaced, but continued to run. It couldn’t get worse, right?

hill
Climbing the hill was not Harry’s favorite part of the day. The bastard was steep, slippery, and always crowded. He couldn’t count the number of times he’d been knocked aside and slipped into the mud. But every day he still walked to work. He didn’t like the hill, but the walking was good.

evidence
the evidence was clear. Something was horribly wrong in this place. The blood, the knife, the twisted body. More than just a murder had happened here; something evil had occurred. How were we to respond to this madness? We weren’t special, just normal people. Normal people who saw something they could not believe, could not understand. So we did what we could. We gathered to catch what did this.

humor
What is more important than a sense of humor? I mean aside from the obvious, food, breathing, yadda yadda. But being able to laugh, at others and at yourself is so vital to life I can’t help but feel sorry for those people who are humorless. The strange, the bizarre, the weird…

wanted
I couldn’t believe that she wanted that. I mean, there are things you might want to have, but how could she want that. It’s… unthinkable. I’d always respected her before, but this was just beyond me. I still can’t believe that she wanted to get that New Kids On The Block tribute album. The horrors! The horrors….
