conjured

The white light flickered suddenly in the dimly lit room and then dissipated with a crackle of electricity. There, standing in the place of the glowing plasma ball was a small creature, grotesque in form with eyes trained directly onto its master’s face.

approval

He stood over the low horizon, gazing at the people walking past him on the dusty road below, kicking up dust and dirt into the atmosphere. None of the smog got to him though, carrying a heavy burden, waiting for approval.

harness

I was on the brink. Tears were about to spill over my lids or my fist was about to sock him in the face. I steadied my facial expersions trying vainly to harness my rage and pain into words. Words that would wound him to the point where his heart would lay fileted and ruined at my feet. Instead, with my tears fought back and fist relaxed against my thigh, I walked away. My silence trailed behind me, as battered but brave shadow.

leading

LEading men lead leading women in a leadinless wordl – where is the direction, who knows, where we walk to… Why walk at all? Leavin footprints for those who follow the leaders??

instrumental

Somehow it just fit like the way fingers intertwine, leaving no space in between. They stared as the contraption slowly whirred into life, cogs spinning and gears turning.

-we did it, we really did-

hearing

Waves crashed along the jagged obsidian rocks lining the maw of the bay. Hear the roar, the sound of tempest, of the ocean angry and resolute with Mother Nature at its back.

willful

Picking himself off the grass, blood staining his lips red and fresh cuts marring his face he stared willfully into the eyes of the monster lurking in front of him. They stared silently at each other, daring the other to make a move. The boy’s hand twitched and the monster leapt forwards, tail trailing heavy behind it.

ratings

As the ratings fell, he stared silently, waiting with bated breath with the hope they would not continue their descent. They did anyway, like he always knew.

pageant

She stepped out into the spotlight, waving her hand up to the flashing cameras and awestruck spectators at the pageant. Her other arm was grasping a bouquet of flowers, petals slowly falling off, trailing behind her.

torch

Fire glistened across the surface of the mirror, the room illuminated by the torch. Cobwebs receded into the darkness of corners as light permeated the fog. The girl let go of the match and it fell to the floor forgotten as she stepped into the doorway.

staple

In an instant, his mouth was stapled shut by a purple stapler pressed against the sides of his lips. Blood oozed from the small perforation the staples made in his inner cheek, as he hissed his pain.

pastel

Pastel hues were painted across the walls of the decrepit house, colors peeling from the whitewashed, moldy walls. A bird perched on the windowsill, plaster chipping off. Grabbing a piece, it flew away to its nest on the roof, laden with treasures.

pattern

After a while, people began to notice. Everyday the same events would happen again and again. The flower pot that was dangling precariously over the street finally loosened and cracked on the pavement. The same black cat crawled atop the same fence at the same time. Deja vu roamed the streets, casting its shadow over awakening minds

belief

There is a road that leads to nowhere. It snakes down shaded valleys and winds through mountains of mist. There are people on this path; people with faces cloaked in shadow, moved only by belief.

crew

There was a storm brewing on the horizon. The waves battered the helpless crew back and forth across the deck. The winds howled and shrieked like a banshee, bringing in cold gusts of sea air. By the end of it, the men were left bedraggled, heaving in deep breaths, grasping at the lifelines.

track

As I walk across a beach, leaving footprints in my wake, I track the seconds it has taken me to get from point a to point b. I stop and turn around. The waves have rolled in, and erased the tracks. I stand alone, facing the sun, past erased.

flirt

Sometimes she finds herself flirting with Death again. They waltz haphazardly around the ballroom, stepping over broken glass and wilted flowers. Death smiles at her and whispers: “One day”

She stares straight on and breathes: “Will do”

orbit

My brain orbits around me and whispers insidious things into my ear. It whines and buzzes and makes me feel faint running along the ends of my room, and I am starting to pant even though its only a few feet across. Stop it I’m tired. So tired.

camera

Life often passes by in the blink of an eye, and sometimes when we feel like stopping and staring, it goes right by and speeds along. Hours blur into minutes as the days drift on by. It gets hard to remember the good ol’ days when we were young. Then the camera was invented, and then seconds began to be frozen in time.

function

I’d like to think everything has a specific function; that all the gears in the clockwork are irreplaceable or maybe we all have a purpose for living. But there are times when the black, enveloping darkness swallows the light and I am left helpless and grasping at air.

scarce

Sometimes after I stumble back into my room after a hard day at school, I fall on the bed and stare at the back of the pillow. It is cold as my face presses into the stained surface as all strength is scarce, no where to be found.

shepherd

Throughout the years, I swore he would be by my side forever. We climbed mountains, crossed rivers and surmounted disasters. Whenever one of us fell down, or tripped, or stumbled along the way, we would pick each other up. But now he’s gone; the teacher to my pupil, the guardian to my child, the shepherd to my sheep

awakening

Life seems like a dream. Everyone is asleep, mindlessly passing through the days, meandering across the streets like every other morning till the day they die. No one is willing to smell the roses or stare at the sky- there is simply not enough time. An awakening is sorely needed, but only time will tell if we reach Nirvana, or continue to sleep.

comfort

I lull myself into comfort all the time, even when I know it is folly. I pass the days like water tumbling from the cataracts of the river, powering my days to simply go down. Because ultimately we all go down and in the end, this is what I take comfort in. My life flows from start to finish, and in the end, when I finally taste the still waters of the ocean, I cease to be me and begin to be us.

compassion

It was hard to let her go after all this time. They loved each other, yes, but that alone would not suffice. His life was hidden in the shadow, hers in the light, and he couldn’t risk her being caught in the heat of a battle or threatened because of him. So he left, took to the rooftops, and bathed in the moonlight, sunken in silence, he threw to the wind what little they had.

prosperous

The Horn of Plenty is a card in the game Settlers of Catan, where you can simply take two of any resource that you want. This is a great card to deploy when you are on the verge of winning, gaining wheat or ore to build that last city, or whenever you aren’t feeling so prosperous.

setting

Time and place is valuable information to know. If a tsunami was about to hit in Hawaii on the 5th of March, I suppose someone mixing that date up with another would create a boy who cried wolf scenario, and then look at all the carnage that would create. Or perhaps they suggested the setting of this particular catastrophe to be somewhere else, and then you would see hordes of people stampeding from the beaches (which I suppose, if no one is harmed, would be quite the sight to see)

morality

Morality is fluid. Morality is subject to thousands, infinite interpretations. Some say that it is in the hearts of humanity, others believe it is a false apparition we conjure to make things right or wrong, to have justice and to believe what we are doing is correct. It is a fine to walk the line and sit on the fence, as it can be too great to ponder over a cup of coffee before grabbing your bags and leaving for life.

suppose

There are times when I suppose I should really be doing something, anything really. I get confused and my head begins to jumble all my thoughts together to produce an condensed ball of fears, wants, obligations, and sometimes I simply cannot bear the weight. So I push it aside and wait for another day.
