smudge
She smudged herself with the white sage, hoping that it would heal her spirit and her mind. All it left was an empty hole in her heart that would not heal. If only she knew that it was not the creation, but the creator that could do that for her.

bricks
The bricks in the room added a richness that had not been there before. It was hard to believe that someone would have covered them to begin with, but as style goes, I’m sure someone thought why not.

pained
It pained John to break up with Deborah. He’d seen and taken enough of her ups and down. This was the moment. No other time would be as appropriate as now that she was so engrossed in her work.

She was withered and tired. She couldn’t keep going on and wanted nothing more than stop and sleep. She was tired of this war and this fighting. She wanted to go back home, but she was never sure if she could go home. She wandered around the camp before settling down next to a tree.

I remember my thoughts as a kid, thinking I understood life. I remember my thoughts as a teen, thinking only now was I understanding life. I thought things were always complicated but I just could not see how complicated it all was.
