shore

something that i’ve already written about. i suppose this is the limitations of the computer, or perhaps i just don’t understand the system and there really will be only one word each day. Oh, that makes sense. there’s one word. each day.

the beach was most beautiful on the sunday afternoon when i was there with Everett. it was a gorgeous day when we began to have a debate about the true word for beach. being from the east he said shore.

sunlight

The light danced across her skin as she wandered across the open field. She’d spent most of her life in the city, and this is the first time she was surrounded by nature as far as the eye could see.

buildings

I stared up at the skyline, in awe of the sights around me. Every one of them had a story to tell. A small start-up, an architect’s first realized dream, a home.

swimming

She swam laps all afternoon, trying so desperately to get back into shape. Trying to re-capture the glory days of the swim team captain.

watch

How could I just sit there and watch? The man was bleeding to death, and I didn’t rush to his aid, didn’t call 911, didn’t even avert my eyes. I just stared at him.

without

It was hard at first — living without her. Things that were simple before I met her were impossible now she was gone. Still, I had to push forward. I had to get through an hour without thinking of her, then eventually I could get through a day, and now the regret of losing her rarely crosses my mind.

formal

At first, you might think of tuxedos and the like, but it could just be, that which has a form. That which is not void or chaos. In which case, “formal” describes just about anything, tuxedos or not.

She stood there in her formal dress. She wasn’t going to the party like all her classmates were, but she wore the dress anyway. It was her way of telling herself that she could have fun, even if she wasn’t invited.

motel

It was a dirty, grimey, seedy place. Not the kind of place I’d expected to find myself, and especially not with /her/. But I guess we all make mistakes.

divide

Most issues aren’t clearly divided into black and white. Politics, among other aspects of human behavior, would be so much smoother if people could see the gray.

becomes

I spend my days trying to become who I want to be. All this effort spent on what I want to be, none spent on what I am.

involved

Always an outsider looking in, never taking an active role. I claim that’s what I like, but deep down inside, don’t I really want to become involved?

chuckles

The chuckles seemed harmless at first. How were we to know what he’d been going through? Sure, we may have been a little cruel, but that’s just how kids are. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

punch

The fist made contact before I could even realize what I was doing. Sure I’d had my problems with him, but I never expected to turn to violence so quickly. It was as if my mind had left my body, and I was taken over by some automatic action.

pouch

She carried the little pouch of spices everywhere. Her mother didn’t understand why, but it’s really her own fault — she’d never explain. It had belonged to Sam, long after all his other posessions have been willed away, the pouch was all that she could get from the boy who’d never know how she’d loved him.

stroller

strollers. oh how i hate these things. always bumping into you and getting in the way. just another way that kids are ruining our lives. i would rather just make the little shits walk.

Posted By Matthew On 09.07.2010 @ 5:13 pm

strollers. why are they here? what moron decided that they were a good idea. i say either carry the kid or make that little shit walk. strollers do nothing but please lazy parents and kids.

calling

I didn’t really know how to explain it when she asked. I didn’t even really understand it myself. How do prove to someone what your calling in life is? How do you show them that you are meant for that calling? How do you cope with all the voices, no matter how loud they may cry, insisting that you are making a mistake?

trees

I gazed up at the height of the great tree before me. I nearly lost my balance, staring up in wonder at the leaves high above. The sheer size of the tree made me feel small, but somehow more secure, knowing that something powerful existed in our world, making such wonders possible.

eternally

There are many things in this world: all begin, most cease, some last, but it is the eternal I wish to understand.

probable

It is probably that good things will happen to you in your life. It is also probably that bad things will happen. The most important thing to remember when dealing with these probabilities is that acceptance is key to living a happy life.

It is very probably that bad things will happen to you in your life. It is also very probably that good things will happen to you. It is important to go with the flow and accept whatever comes your way, because acceptance is the key to living a happy life. Remember always, like it says on King Solomon’s ring, “this too shall pass.”

smiles

smiles are like little red wagons. kids are the only ones who find the pure joy and innocence within a genuine one.

wand

wandering into the forest i fell upon a magical tree. this was definitely no ordinary magical like the ones my father showed but there was certainly something special about this tree as it had colors i’ve never seen before.

bow

Bow, a weapon, a real scary weapon. It hurts, it hurts, it really, really hurts.

Posted By Matthew On 05.28.2010 @ 4:23 am

It was sharp, accurate and peeled the air apart like a knife through hot butter. It was Bow!

dolls

I had no dolls growing up but my sisters did. They were these awful bald plastic dolls whose heads would squish in, and had these light blue almost gray sweat suits. Their eyes were closed and couldn’t open, so I assumed as a kid that they were eternally asleep, or dead. Both of my sister’s had the same doll so their names were written on the back of the doll, under their jail-resembled jump suit. I played with them when they laid in the family room but didn’t do much other than that.

trap

I live in constant fear of falling into pit falls which punjii sticks at the bottom.

This fear is so hard on me, that I have to watch where I step because I am afraid I will fall through the floor.

Have you ever felt like you will fall through the floor? Please, God — don’t let me fall.
