bronze

It makes shields which are pretty cool in a historical and nerdy way, as in it could refer to ‘The guy lifted up his bronze shield and kicked the guys ass’ or it could mean, ‘This bronze shield gives me +5 to dexterity.’

sour

I hate sour things.

I hate the face they make me make, I hate the way that sours things taste. Did you know that most poisons are sour-tasting? That’s why your body rejects them so much.

That’s got to be why I don’t eat sour candy anymore.

It’s not because you always ate them, right?

… right?

(Apparently, sour and bitter have the same meaning.)

delicate

Her fingers are like feathers.

She hates it, and I think in some ways I must hate it too. Because it’s not enough to be delicate, you have to also be fragile, and that’s something Kimmy never was.

Despite the fact that she was once so strong and able, so ready to face the world (and roundhouse kick it, in the face), the girl that sat before me now, hairless and pale, was no longer so able.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

checks

Checks and balances.

The American government is all ABOUT the checks and balances. No man is an island, and no man is a government either. No one person can accomplish much of anything there. No president can serve more than two terms, well, ever. No law can be passed through the Senate alone.

They’re so paranoid.

So am I, but I mean, one person’s way of life really shouldn’t be used as a system of government.

thumbtack

I have placed a thumbtack in every place I have ever been.

You might think that means I have a map on my wall that I collected places I’ve visited on, but that would not be true.

I literally carry a small container of thumbtacks, which I then dutifully push into every place I’ve ever been.

Subways. Libraries. Classrooms. Bedrooms. Malls, stores, even bathrooms. And sometimes, it’s hard to get those thumbtacks into places (wouldn’t want to stab anyone!), but I always work hard, because I think about those people who see these thumbstacks and wonder.

Because that’s what life is really all about.

Wonder.

timing

Timing is everything.

He looks out over the street at the cars zooming by. Fifty zone, but they were flying. seventy. eighty. maybe even ninety.

He looks out over the street. It’s raining, and he thinks to himself that his life isn’t a movie, because there’s no happy ending here, but if there was, he would make this be the climax.

Orchestral swell.

Timing is everything.

He takes a deep breath, and jumps.
