They hate themselves. Everytime they look in the mirror, the blank sheet on which their lives are written, they want to escape inside in the hope that on the other side, there is no reflection. So don’t take it too badly when they’re jealous that you have smashed the glass.

violent

cigarette
there was a puff and a bang and the cigarette went out. she cursed, threw it down, and tried again. this damned thing was always giving her trouble. there was no use quitting, she grumbled to herself. the stoop was filled with the ashes of the last one, and she felt her hair was singed.

My Middle-Eastern friends wear scarves on their heads. There’s an advantage to this practice: If you have a bad hair day, you can hide it with a scarf.
