I never had such peace before at work, I remember her sitting there at her desk, and whenever I’d call her she’d come running. 30. The school adviser had an office that smelled like old coffee and thrift store clothes. She was rather young to have an “old people” smell where she spent her time; you would think she was in her 60’s at the least. She dressed like she was in her sixties too. Except for her shoes. Her shoes were Doc Marten combat boots that had obviously seen years of “combat”.

  31. Imparting advice when it’s not needed is the best way to waste your time. Not only your time, might I add, but that of others as well. It’s incredibly pompous to assume that people will want to hear what you have to say, or that you have anything worth saying at all, really. The best thing you can hope for is to somehow graze the truth, to somehow recieve advice that changes you while never being so presumptious as to believe that you can impart anything lest the few truths you’ve accumulated in the few years of your life.

  32. I feel people need more of these. The people that advise. The people that for some reason are qualified enough to think they can somehow impart knowledge to the masses. These people are rare, since most people who know something are conscious of the fact that some things can’t be helped, and some people won’t be advised. I think I’m one of those people.

  40. Role of adviser is difficult. How to be impartial about the requirement? or is it mot expected? Your understanding of the requirement will invariably depend on your past life, experiences, understanding, education etc. Your advise will inherently, intangibly reflect all of these. So the role of an adviser requires professional guidance to fix up the framework for interaction and advise.
How can you differentiate the benefits to the adviser from the interactions? What are acceptable and what are not? Can there be adverse effects to the adviser? If so, is s/he eligible to be an adviser?
