So I’m going to go eat a bagel with cheese and ham. Because I’m hoping it’ll taste good. It sounds good. I want to eat it. Let me go to the fridge.

  21. Oh bagel. I do miss you. Toasted or not. Soft, so soft. Full. Tough. Delicious. Hearty. Fill me up. I could eat you plain. With a little berries mixed in the batter, that was nice.

  22. He was pouring his heart out to me, but all I could think of was the bagel sitting on his desk. How deliciously tender and salty it looked. Oh, he is waiting for a reply um…”I don’t know what to say, I’m sorry”, and he continued with his whining.

  23. The bagel was not as good as it looked in the picture. I wonder if I can sue for false advertising? I should look into this cause I spent my last five dollars on that bagel and a shmear! Damn shame. Public Enemy was right–don’t believe the hype!

  24. Arms flung wide, he gestures wildly, forgetting for the moment that the bagel is still in his hand. It flies from his hand and hits me directly in the face, scattering me in a shower of fine crumbs and dark poppy seeds.

  27. i eat those for breakfast. they’re soft and you put cream cheese on them and then you eat them after you maybe put them in the toaster if you want but if you don’t they’re good either way so you can just always put some motherfuckin cream cheese or butter on that bitch however you want it and it’ll taste just as good. sometimes when i’m hungover i will eat the bagel by itself and i will break off little pieces to absorb the acid in my stomach. bagels are juts so bagel like.

  33. “A bagel?” Steve opened the paper back, staring at the freshly toasted specimen. “You brought me a bagel?”

“What were you expecting, a donut?” Riley rolled her eyes. “Seriously…men.”

“Hey!” He pushed the bagel up through the paper envelope and began to sniff at the golden crust. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Exactly what I said.” She perked a brow. “What are you doing?”

“Figuring out what kind of cream cheese-”

“Original. Regular. Full-fat. Whatever you want to call it. Sheesh. For crying out loud, Steve. I just bought you a bagel. I should’ve eaten it myself. I was being nice.”

    “You didn’t have to.”

His girlfriend stared at him for a full minute and then she reached over, yanked the bagel from his surprised fingers and took an overly large bite out of the snack. She chewed vigorously for a moment and swallowed, then took another bite and handed it back. “There. See? No poison. No weird anything. I’m alive. I’m fine.” She swallowed with a wince. “And except for the fact that I don’t particularly care for plain bagels, I’m fine. Happy?”

Steve flashed a hesitant smile, taking a careful nibble of the returned bagel. “It’s very good.” He said, after a moment. “and you didn’t really have to do that. I don’t expect you to try and poison me. It’d be too obvious.”

Riley made a strangled sound in her throat. “I’ll kill you.” She groaned, eyes rolling heavenward. “I swear, I will kill you.”

He smiled, softly. “I’ll be waiting.”

He didn’t protest when she pushed him off the park bench.

  34. Mmm, there’s nothing in the world like a toasty bagel on a cold morning. Except maybe sex. Yes. Sex was better than a toasty bagel on a cold morning. But only when she had had enough sleep. Otherwise, she preferred carbs and cream cheese for breakfast. And maybe a little coffee.

Give it up, the little voices in my head screamed. All that fat. All the greasy buttery dough sliding down your throat. You don’t want that. You want to feel light and skinny, like you can fly. I swallowed the bite, grimacing. My anchor to ugliness.

“What!” He leaned over to see better, then stifled a giggle.

  39. It was like a donut. Without the frosting. This whole diet thing SUCKED! I stared down at my plate, that held the hideous thing the called a bagel. Did I really like these when I was little?! I remember bagels being beautifully toasted with loads of butter and cream cheese. But this…thing…staring back at me was all brown and had specks of oats in the bread. This indeed was a disgrace.

    She turns, startled.

    “Excuse me?”

    “Would you like a bagel?”

She frowns at the stranger. “I don’t even know you.”

“You don’t me now,” he says. “But maybe, if you let me get you a bagel, you could.”
