I just read Toni Morrison’s Beloved. Most intense book I have ever read. It got me on a little bit of a Toni Morrison spree – very talented author (well, obviously since she won the Nobel Prize in literature). It’s weird for me to read books like Beloved, though, because I’m white. I feel almost like people would disapprove because I’m “one of the oppressor”. Even though I don’t have any slave holding ancestors. There’s too much division between black and white and too much reverse racism now.
people you care about. the ones that mold your life. in essence, a part of you. your favorite. Jesus. someone you cherish. word people use to sound fancy. one that you hold above all else.

beloved. ‘heavenly father’ is the phrase that comes to mind. religious sayings. ‘beloved’ is more foreign than ‘loved.’ ‘beloved are we to god.’ more foreign and biblical and sublime i guess than ‘god loves us.’

Everyone is beloved to us in a way. Whether the person involved is someone we love or think we hate, they are all beloved. Each person in the vast collection of people we’ve all met in our lifetime have taken a part of our hearts. We cannot simply tear ourselves away from people. But we do, and that is our problem. We cannot throw away our beloved.

This was too much, but I sucked it up. “I…don’t want to be replaced by her,” I involuntarily added extra emphasis on the last word. “I would never replace you with anyone. You’re my best friend,” he smiled. Oh, the beloved best friend line.
The dog sat on its owners lap. He looked up with adoring eyes and licked the man’s face. “Ew! Get off!” The dog crawled down and went looking for its beloved chew toy.

when one is beloved they are loved not only by the people they know but by everyone who has known them ever. A beloved person is just lovable. Easy to talk to, fun to be around, and a good friend. To be beloved is a very very good thing because then life is easier. Not in a slacking way

He doesn’t know why she had taken a liking to him. Not that he minds. But her father minds– the army of men marching around the perimeter of the train do– her friends and family back home do. But maybe if they knew how beloved she were to him, how much he adored this angelic Charlotte, maybe they wouldn’t kill him on the spot.

I had a bunny. I thought about naming it “Charles”, but then thought that the guys would laugh at me for having a bunny named “Charles” if they ever came over and asked what its name was. So instead I named it “Rasputin”. But in my mind he was always “Charles”.
