A smiling face, a tear, a drastic game of catch the birds. This lens is the city. The trees. Reality to me is the crashing of the darkroom and the taste of a backward fading photo. From white to dark, life to death, songs to humming, we become more then what we are.

  2. There is something so exhilarating about waiting in the darkroom for your picture to be developed. You hope that this picture you have taken will capture that one special moment perfectly, but deep down in your heart, you know that there is nothing that can allow you to relive that exact moment. I have yet to figure out if this is a good or bad thing.

  3. There I was, on a Monday afternoon, in an empty classroom with friends: chatting, laughing, and joking around with each other. I turned around and began to speak with the kid next to me… but no reply. Something was amiss. Curiously, I waved my hand in front of his face but his visage betrayed no reaction. An hour passed and my heart plummeted. What did I do wrong? My pleas for affection and desire to belong became muffled as tears crashed down upon the marble floor. Cast aside into the dark, I stood there and sorrowfully watched as memories materialized into film — without me.

  4. In white room with a thousand curtains…
Draw them tightly and it all grows dark…

I’m searching for a pair of silver moonbeams –
In exchange for a set of saffron tigers crouching –

Sugar and spices, wish everything could be as nice as
The kiss that’s hidden for me in the darkest chamber of your heart.

  5. in a darkroom, you develop photos. photos of people, photos of things…photos of your dog, Sam. in a darkroom, you are alone. alone with your thoughts, alone with your hands. your hands work, they make things. pretty things, ugly things, simple things. in a darkroom, you can create.

    by Katie on 02.01.2011
  6. My mind is a darkroom
With pictures of you always being made
    I can’t escape it
    You follow me every where
    Even into my darkroom

  7. there is a darkroom. i don’t know how i got here. but all i know is that i’m in a darkroom. i can’t remember who i am. i can’t remember where i was last. what has happened to me?

    by Skye on 02.01.2011
  8. It was just me alone in the darkroom. It was a completely silly thing for me to do in retrospect but I had this strange false hope that I could do something to change what was about to occur.

  9. A dark room in a dark place. Where you can’t see anything but at the same time you don’t want to see anything. You close your eyes, you open them. You can’t tell the difference. Everything is the same. Everything for once is clear because now there’s nothing to see. Everything is dark. You are numb. Nothing matters. It’s done.

  11. There used to be a darkroom in the summer camp I went to. i spend weeks sneaking inside the darkroom meant for photo class kids ONLY. I would pretend i was on a tour of the camp, in the pitch black room I would ask the other students what they were doing. Some of them even lets me transfer the next photo into the washing bin. I had the time of my life that summer.

  13. I have never been in a darkroom… I’m just not that interested in photography. Still, I think one would be a good place to hide from the world, in that eerie quiet with just one red light casting strange shadows across the floor…

  14. So it was just me and an old rusty tin can sitting in that dark room. I didn’t even know what I was doing in there, what I thought I would accomplish. It seems silly to me that I thought I could have prevented what happened next.

  15. I was in the darkroom making prints. When i finally knew how sick this twisted venture had become the look of those victims faces. Spattered and battered, I couldn’t face it any longer. I had to come clean.

  16. Im cold, scared, the marble floor is sending chills up my spine. My wet hair is dripping down my back. I want you to wrap your arms around me, warm me up, like hot chocolate after coming out of the snow. But instead you stand quietly, watching me towel off, instead of grabbing me and letting your body heat warm me.

  17. A darkroom is a place where they develop pictures. Obviously, this room is kept very dark so that light doesn’t hit the negatives. If that should happen, the film negatives get ruined. That’s all I have to say on the matter. It doesn’t refer to any room that’s just lacking light.

  18. Darkroom in a photography studio. It’s pitch black. I follow the voices of my friend as she leads me deeper in the darkroom. As we venture in light begins to appear. Photos are being developed.

  19. alone in a dark room, but never alone look at the smiling faces of your photos, see the bright, feel the warmth of knowing that you took a few truly amazing shots. See the faith that you put into yourself, developing these pictures on your own. BELIEVE.

  20. I am currently sitting in a darkroom at the computer. Darkrooms are where they process photos in the old days before digital cameras. I wish I had somebody to light this dark room with me. Specifically, Teresa. I wish you would talk to me more.

  21. I’ve always wanted to be a photographer. To be able to capture a single moment of breathtaking beauty, to perfectly replicate some aspect of the world I live in through the use of a single button is amazing to me, because my hands shake. I would be useless in the darkroom, with my hands trembling as I tried to develop any shaky images I tried to capture.

It’s just as well. I was meant to live in the light, anyway.

  22. The darkroom was, ironically enough, dark. Steve walked in, shutting the door behind him, and approached the far bench. He knew the place well enough he could park a car in there without hitting anything.

  23. a darkroom is aroom in which a person can develope photos from n old film camera. They are not in use as often anyore due to new updated digital cameras. However a darkroom is also a place in which most people sleep. Unless that person is afraid of the dark and has irrational frears and needs to sleep with a nightlight on. a darkroom is also a place in which a person could get raped… just saying alot of bad stuff tends to happen in the dark of a room. i guess good things can happen to if you know what i mean… people fear the dark even if they are in a room because they cannot see or sense the objects or people around them because we are so dependent on sight. therefore we begin to imagine things that are in the darkroom with us. intense cases of imaginations could be diagnosed as skitsofrenia, they not only imagine things but they could also imagine voices or sounds. And these sounds could be scary things that make you imagine even more bad things around because the dark is associated with evil while light is associated with good.

  24. darkroom, for the revelation soon to come. the evanescent chemical lab that brings the gentle pigments to light. darkroom, where secrets are born but not kept. the slide that isn’t shown and the door that’s closed.

  25. The door to the darkroom opens, and suddenly, a new world has erupted. I am no longer in my dingy apartment – no. Here, with chemicals and film, I am soaring the heights, talking to strangers and hearing their stories, and diving to the depths of the ocean. Here, my imagination takes flight. Here, my spirit soars above the dismal. Here, I am truly free to simply…be.

  27. Scared. Alone. Abandoned. Hurt.
You stole my innocence. It’s okay, don’t ask.
Everyone is handing out their most prized possession.
You, don’t even care! I hate you for what you’ve done. I’ll never be the same.
    You ruined everything I am-was.
That darkroom started it all.. Can’t see much but the art I love so much. My precious art exposed to something so violent. My beautiful pictures around such filth.
I’ll never find joy in my loves again..
they hold bad memories. You gave them bad memories and you can’t take them back.

  28. there’s a long process of development that goes on in a darkroom. if he knew how she felt in that chemical cloud he would not tell her not to go, he would not look away.

  29. this dark room…. This crimson light…. This is my darkroom. this room is me, it shows who i am. All my work, my creativity is here. this is my darkroom. this defines me as i am.

  30. The darkroom is where you develop photographs. I’ve had bad experiences in the darkroom as a child. But the darkroom can also be a space in your mind. I’ve had bad experiences there too. Dark and room should not be combined into an idea unless you want to go some place uneasy.

  32. The smell of developer was drenched in the stitching of his cardigan. I slowly unzipped it, open palmed and crushing my weight against his chest. He bumped clumsily into the projector and the light flashed on the unsoiled paper, invisibly burning an image I had neither seen him take nor cared what its content could be.

  33. My photos have a life of their own in my darkroom. Here the world becomes my putty, my plaything. My fantasies are brought to life with a few chemicals, a dark room, and time to myself…which is the most important factor. Here, I can shut out the world and just…be.

  34. It was a dark scary night the room was dark, the monsters were lurking from under my bed the ghost were running wild. I could hear the moaning of Frankenstein I knew were I was I was in a haunted house. :P

  35. its a scary place but its also a calming place all you want to do is lay there and think i am in a darkroom
with nothing to do you just continue laying there in the darkroom
then you think why not turn on the light
with light there is everything you dont see
    you see the door
    the ceiling
    light
    its better than a darkroom

  38. When I think of Dark Room I think of Donnie Darko. There is a sccene where Drew Barrymore’s character mentions a famous poet who says the term cellar door is the most beautiful combination of words in the english language. it’s more of a word association than anything.

  39. as she worked on developing her photos in the darkroom, a single photo left behind by the previous user caught her eye. the foreground was captivating, a strong oak tree whose leaves had just changed to vibrant red and orange. but it was the background that made her step in for a closer look.
