  1. I was never very good with history.I’ve always been more of an English person. It’s very important but I’ve never been able to remember any of it. History is what makes us, us.

  2. The history of man is a sad one. Many tragic things have happened. Many deaths.

However, you cannot only see the sad sad of humanity. You must also look at the good. Great things have happened in the history of man.

And sometimes, all of the tragedies seem worth it when you look at the good.

    by Angel on 06.24.2011
  3. Sad, heroic, wars. Boring school subject. Wish I knew more. Family. Roots, identity. Aboriginal. Heritage. Who we are and where we come from. Death, dying. Torture. His, not hers. Feminism.

  4. History. Its an important part of our lives to learn about things that once were. Not only is it important but it is also very interesting and gaining knowledge from the past can be very useful in todays life.

    by Annie McAlpine on 06.24.2011
  5. i love history channel and hate the history subject i am very sad about the wording that history repeats itself but who can change it and we have to go according to it thats it.History (from Greek ἱστορία – historia, meaning “inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation”[2]) is the discovery, collection, organization, and presentation of information about past events. History can also mean the period of time after writing was invented.

  6. History? Oh, you mean HIS-story. It’s an enormous challenge to let go of what you have planned for yourself and give in to His plan. I would know. I have yet to learn how to do exactly that. But when I do, I know I’ll have a greater and happier ending than what I have planned for myself because it’s His story.

  7. I’m not very good in history class in general. The info presented does not catch my attention and it all goes in one ear and out the other. My dad helps me study for history and that greatly improves my scores.

    by Adri on 06.24.2011
  8. Something i don’t know much about. but history is more than just the past of the world, it’s your own past and the things you’ve seen. the people you’ve loved and the mistakes you’ve made. your history is your story, whether you’re willing to tell people the stories or not.

    by Chase on 06.24.2011
  9. The told me two things growing up. One was a simple truth, 2 +2 = 4…
The other was more complex, they said it would answer all of life’s little problem. It would unlock doors, answer the unanswerable, tell tales that would be taller then the tallest tinie person. So I guess that was a bad day to get suspended for putting the ketchup stain on the back of sweet Cindy Lou’s white dress in Mr. Anges’s American History class… but it was worth it, to have her forever know as Cindy “red stains” Lou…

  10. What happened in the past, affecting the future, forever controlling what we do now. Pre-determinism as a result of past events. History controls the future.

  11. Hist can tell us a lot about the future. I think we all make the mistake of forgetting about history isn’t that with the old cliches say? However, I think it’s important to learn from the past because if we don’t learn from our previous misfortunes, mistakes, joyous occasions etc.. then what is the point? As a society why should strive to grow and to better ourselves. History is extremely important because it is a window into the future.

    by Stephanie O'Dorle on 06.24.2011
  12. It’s history, now.
The fear of blank, white walls, covered in brightly colored, out-dated posters.
The friendly nurses who alternately try to help and don’t care at all.
The patients, who all have worse problems than you, but are willing to reach out to you.
It’s history, yeah, and a lot of it is frightening.
But it’s more than I have now.

  13. Sometimes, when I’m having a conversation with someone and there’s a pause or an interruption, I just stare and think of a good or important moment we had in the past or the overall magnitude of our history together. With the right person, it can get so overwhelming that I’ll have to knowingly take a breath before we can continue.

    by Jack Rayson on 06.24.2011
  18. History is definite, history holds the clues to unlock the past stories of the world, history is the molder of our life now. History is the sequence of past present and future, at one point each will eventually become history as time move forwards. We will always have history as we all have our own individual history.

  22. We had a history, the kind worthy of tears. Every time I saw him and those smoky blue eyes, that’s exactly what I felt like doing. The water touched my eyelashes, and it took all my strength to not let them free. I wished he could tell, that I could let myself cry and maybe he would sweep me up, like in the old movies. Then we could finally kiss and finally be the us I always dreamed of. But our history told otherwise, and I was doomed to be trapped with it, secret admirer from afar.

  27. one word is a very important thing as it is always followed by another word in order to make a proper sentence. One word can hurt so much, one word can bring instant joy or a tear to the eye as memorys float through your head. There is a magic about words. They can cause things to change in an instant. They could end a realationship, they could end a business, words have more power than people know and it’s those people who don’t matter anyway.

    by Jo on 06.23.2011
  28. Everyone always says that if we don’t study history, we’ll just repeat its mistakes. But I still feel like we can learn about the events of the past without needing to memorize every date and name of every battle. If we just focused on the events that transpired and knew the names of the most important people I feel we would gain just as much benefit. However sometimes its interesting to learn about the little guys. People like you and me.

  29. “I’ll have to take your history before I examine you,” the doctor said.

What should I tell him? Do I say my heart’s been broken three times? Do I tell him about the sadness in the pit of my stomach?

  33. Knowing one’s history liberates oneself from the seductive clutches of ignorance and mediocrity.

  34. History. It can be an argument for or against so many things, it just depends on where you stand. So many little facts that can be seen this way or that way, but the problem with history is no matter how hard they try no individual is able to fully pull themselves away from a situation enough to get an objective point of view. I look at my grandparents, both of whom have completely different memories of the same events, and wonder what people really get upset about. But in the here and now, looking up at the stars and the grand world around me, I know there’s a god. No history can shed the same light as the beauty all around me.

  35. Your history is mine. I love that lyric. It rings true in our case. You might have gotten the best of me, but your history is mine.

  36. The past is going by faster than you can say Jack Robbins, faster than you can think of a retort, faster than the present which was here is gone. The past is something of recall, something of a story that you can’t ever tell the same way twice, because there’s always a little detail you omitted the first time, and then remembered the second, but forgot the third while recalling other pieces. History isn’t absolute or true – it’s the composite agreement of men and their attempts to be accurate, which ultimately fail.

  37. It eludes me, history—my own, and that of others around me. I am lost in its shadow. It knows me but I am ignorant of it.

These are the words they carved into his headstone. The letters would dull with time, but the words would stay.

    by A TA T on 06.23.2011
  38. The history of the world is a funny thing, constantly repeating, yet always staying the same. Who would have thought at the beginning of time that one person’s mistake would happen over and over again and affect generation after generation. It’s amazing how time flies yet everything stays the same. We learn the same things, eat the same food, carry out relationships with the same kind of people and that’s what history does to us. Turns us into monotonous happenings, things that don’t matter, things that will happen again long after we’re gone.

    by Rachel on 06.23.2011
  39. I was definitely born in the wrong era
Can’t decide when would have been best
Love the glitzy extravagance of Marie-Antoinette’s France
The newness & edge of the 20s
I’d have been a superb flower child
If there were some way to combine these
    I’d jump back and forth
    Through history
    Avoiding the bad parts
Like I wish I could in life

  40. History tells a story. We learn more from history than what happened in the past, but we learn of our mistakes and how to become better. History is more than a story, it is a lesson. Each time it is told, a new lesson is learned.
