  1. The icing slumped – dribbled – plopped from the cake, taking chunks of the delicate dark chocolate crumb with it. The more she tried to fix it, the worse it got, until, as her brother put it, it looked as though she had frosted the cake with a pitchfork.

  2. That’s just icing on the cake, she often said. She always looked forward to licking the last bits of icing, letting the sweetness linger on her tongue long afterwards. As the years passed, her classmates and friends got used to her invasive icing-stealing ways. It’s as sweet as ever, she thought, as she dipped a finger into her slice of graduation cake.

  6. it’s exciting
    to see something so beautiful
    overdone
    polished
    and smothered
because who wouldn’t want to witness
    the slaughter
    of something good
as it is overtaken by something even better

  7. Icing. It’s tasty, it’s sweet and it’s affordable. What’s not to like? I could go into a metaphorical discussion about how icing is like love – sweet and tasty, but too much of it can be bad for you. Not that too much love is bad. But too much dependence on love? Maybe that is.

    by Miriam on 07.23.2012
  8. false facades deceive. underneath the pretty decorations and fancy, sweet embellishments lie a hard, hard heart, a chunk of bitter black coal that burns, but not for love. Bite and your pearly white teeth will shatter.

  9. You watch her shove a red velvet cupcake into her mouth, her eyes gleaming with almost murderous glee. She sighs happily as she licks the remaining cream cheese icing from her lips and reaches for another cupcake.

She eats it much slowly now, telling you how much she loves red velvet cupcakes and that the icing is one kind of ah-mazing, and that if she could, she’d probably live off red velvet cake between bites.

You hum noncommittally to her ramblings, sipping on your coffee as you do. She hasn’t actually thanked you for making these stupid cupcakes and wasting your time (and money) making that ridiculously hard to perfect icing, but as she reaches for her third cupcake, you don’t mind that she hasn’t.

After all, she did say that icing was one kind of ah-mazing. You could live with that.

  12. Eis ist eine Substanz. Eis knirscht.

  15. Her teeth dug into the white, thick icing. It was the first thing she had eaten in weeks, it felt like an eternity. And this was her reward. Her reward for waiting, for staying strong. She had looked foward to this for so long. She could help it, her breathing became faster, irregular, she sounded like an animal now while greedily finishing the cake.

  16. LIke icing on the cake i tell you the words she wishes to hear. Those sweet soft melodies so distant between frequencies. i look into her eyes longingly i peer.

I want to bake some cupcakes one day or chocolate mud cake or something delish and like put lots of icing on it. and this reminds me of ice cream parlours, cause im designing one at school at the moment, and sometimes i think how great it would be if we have an ice cream parlour near our school. that would be so nice, hot chocolate, cakes ugh

  29. Her cake was complete, the one thing that needed to be done was the icing. It was to be chocolatey, heavenly goodness; full of those melting properties that icing was so prone to having.

Then she discovered one naughty 5 year old, face covered in sugary gore.

She sighed, wooden spoon resting in her hand against her hip. How could she say no to a face like that?

  30. Icing on a cake. Icicles. Winter. It’s coming. God, I miss winter. The snow, the cold, the excitement. I miss everything about it. It just changes the world, brings everyone together. It’s I don’t know, better

  31. Wasn’t this word here before? Oh well.

Icing is yummy, glossing, and white. Looks kinda like toothpaste but much thinner and sweeter. I love icing and I wish I had some in a cinnamon bun. Maybe I should go to Cinnabon.

Feelings hurt, John vowed never to use St. Minnow’s asparagus-flavoured icing again.

  35. I like icing a lot. I used to lick the icing off of cupcakes when I was little because I didn’t like the cake. Pretty weird, I know. I don’t eat the homemade icing unless it’s like buttercream because I like the bakery/store bought one better. Yum yum.

  36. I don’t feel as weak anymore. I don’t break down every other week, allowing the tears to cascade off my face and my throat to choke from the sobbing. I don’t pity who I was as much. When I do think of her, I don’t feel nearly as sad. I think that’s a part of life–getting up, dusting yourself off, and, as hard as it may be, continuing the trek. Life doesn’t stop for anybody, but I’m just learning the logistics of that word combination.

  37. Its always fun when when on top of your pancake you have an icing of sugar titbits. Icings are interesting and add-ons that make me realize the importance of small things in life that give me joy! The crispiness of sugar, the wetness I feel in my mouth when my tongue tastes the sweetness is incredible.
