an idol is something that you worship and treat as an objective god. Billy Idol is a good musician. Idol is a word for not moving or standing still. Ta daaaaa!
billy, idol, a sense of purpose, higher – elation – self worth unto others, appreciation of alterior ideals, abstractions, worship (passive/active). sense of wonder and ability inspiration or intimidation, perhaps.
Idol, feared word, promise of eternal damnation, of Old Testament wrath–and after all only an image, holder of beauty, conjured up from our projections, in which we may put more of our truths than in what we believe to be the truth.
I am a true tv slave, all I think of when I see the word idol is… American Idol. How terrible is it when a word that should inspire people actually makes them more media driven.
I look up to him, worship. Idealistic life, friends. I admire everything he does, thinks and stands for. Idolised in every way, how can one hate him? He his, in every way what I want, need and desire. He is my idol in every perceptable way
The idols that rise to the clouds…such littles things we hold so dear….what tiny slices of life led to these? The hunt, the babies cry? What made us raise Gods as we would raise a child? One generation tending to them in youth, and the next generation tending to the furtherance of that divine image.
Why is it that today’s people tend to see Hollywood’s society as nothing but idols, gods to be praised for entertaining our dull lives, when the doctors, professors, and mentors of our world, the ones who should be praised, are forgotten?
american purple haze just came to me. i tried to stop it, but it wouldn’t leave me alone. why? oh, why? i tried so hard. please, just let me be alone for one minute.
idolise somethign worth believing in, something that will amtter to you and those around you, something true that will make a difference to anyone who encounters it. something positive, vibrant and real
I can’t stand the way modern society has this culture of idolising people – people who’ve done little or nothing to deserve it, no less. Everyone wants to be a celebrity, and do as little as possible to get there. And when the odd few succeed – everyone buys into it and worships them.
We brought them before the idol of the great K’unglung, naked and bound as per the precepts. Surely it would be pleased with such a sacrifice. What god wouldn’t want to blood of four unspoilt Virginians?
An idol. Somebody to look to. Somebody to worship. Even a little statue. Whole cultures have been built around idols, some real, some not. But all extremely valuable to the people laying calmly at their feet. An idol could be anything. Even a simple twig, but as long as it provides some sort of support for its culture, it’s a valuable asset.
Oh, my god, I look up to you for assistance. Please, guide me through the treacherous phases of my life. What would I do without you, oh, please, I pray day and night that I may meet you some day! Don’t ever give up on your dreams because that’s what I admire you for.
There she was, Maria Walker. Standing there in line at Jana’s Frozen Treats. She was ordering, and I was behind her. The singer was standing in front of me. It took all my willpower not to scream and ask her for her autograph.
once again an idol there in front of me

you don’t need an idol to follow your dreams or to decide how you wanna be or who you’re gonna be.you don’t need an idol to know how to behave or what feelings to have.you don’t need an idol you just have to be yourself,to work hard for what you want and be like no one else.
There he was, my God, in a leather jacked and spiky blond hair. I have never seen anyone more perfect than him, and all I can think about is running my finger from the tip of his chin down to his waist and maybe even lower….
The idols that exist today are nothing more than meaningless things that come to us through the wonders of the mass media. Shame, really, how television and radio make us who we are, instead of making ourselves.
When I was growing up, I went to a Lutheran school. We used to talk about not having idols, lesser things to take the place of God. Money could be an idol, fame, etc.
When I think about American Idol, every once in awhile I think about this idea.
i have a friend who is like an idol to me.
His name is Ankit Dembla.
This guy taught me Graphic Designing. I haven’t seen a person who is jollier than him.
Once upon a time there was a young girl who dreamed of being on American Idol. She practiced and practiced only to realize that when she came face to face with the judges, she had absolutely no talent at all. She was left disheartened and everyone laughed at her. Including me. I don’t know why I wrote this or what it exactly has to do with the word. Sorry.
My idol would have to be my mother because of her courage and strength. She can be the lion and the kitten. Both strong and loving. She may be afraid at times, but she is my ultimate idol. I strive to be like her. She is a perfectionist and
i used to watch american idol all the time with my family. way back when, when the family was tight. we used to hang out then. have dinners, ya know. not anymore, ever since i’ve moved out the house has gotten straight and proper, much until it’s natural chaos it used to have.
She’s my idol. I don’t know her, not really anyway. But yeah, idol. I know I’m not supposed to worship idols or anything, as it’s against my religion, but can’t I just…appreciate? Perhaps not WORSHIP, but appreciation is just wonderful. Everyone wants to feel appreciated, anyhow. Can’t hurt anyone but myself, after all. I think I’m okay with that. Hurt. Pain. Yeah, it’s worth it.
American Idol…such a shitty show, everyone thinks it is run by the voters, but really, anything that big in entertainment is not going to be sway by a bunch of illitirate people. They have money into it and choose whoever will create more hype on the show DURRRR.
The field lay fallow in balmy rays of late summer sun. Tiny white flowers nodded their accord and buttercups caught the very essence of the season. Inside, the office workers bowed their heads behind laptop idols and slowly faded away.
An idol is someone who we look up to and admire. someone that we strive to be more like, in the good ways. Society has misconsued the idea of an idol, and through this we have a vision of idols as only those who are beautiful and talented.

there is something about being the subject of such unrelenting respect or at least intense interest. in history they replaced Gods, currently they sometimes have skill and we collectively vote for them. sometime in the 80s a converted punk popularized his wedding and was Idolized for it. i believe the meaning to be lost, to comercial, to trite, to far from its origins.
You were my idol. You were my everything.
Not idol in the sense that I wanted to be like you, but in the way that I loved you so much that you were all that mattered.
I looked up to you because you put me down. You put me below you and to see your brightness, I had to look up.
Now all I see is darkness.
You were never really bright.
You just burned.
When I was young I wished I was an idol. I would see myself walking down the streets and humbly smiling at my fans, I would enter shops and act like a normal person while thinking how nice I am of putting myself at the same level than the ordinary man.
I’ve always thought about whether or not I’d be influential enough to be someone’s idol. I mean, will I ever achieve anything of significance in this life? It’s doubtful. But I’d like to leave this world knowing I’d made an impact of some sort. To be someone’s idol would just make my life, really. I myself have numerous people I consider to be idols; to be one of them to someone else would just be indescribable.
My idol would have to be Mr. Wisker. He was the most important man at Bellevue High School. The boys looked up to his illustrious football career and the girls all had secret puppy-dog love crushes on him, writing him sappy notes and then crumbling them up and throwing them away. He was positively a god at that school until the day that a dump truck ran the stop sign and obliterated him and his legacy.
This status is not presented to someone lightly. Throughout my life so far there have been people that I would be able to call my idol. To see a person and say “They are my idol” is saying “Their lifestyle and characteristics appeal to me, I want to be like them”. This is really all I want to say about this word.
man this guy is my idol. i know its bad but damn he is so freakin strong and i feel so bad that he has to be that way. its a hard job to do. everyone always lookin up to you and all. he plays it off good though but i know it hurts him. he’s a playa.

Those that were popular, and looked at, had become corrupted by the attention. They sold out until they were nothing but shallow imitations of people, who did what they did for attention.
Of course, it was still better than the old sorts of religion. But not good enough.
