  1. a small container of light filled with fire and oil often used in the olden days to light the way at night or in caverns there are traces of lanterns being used in the gigantic mammoth caves down in Kentucky which I explored on my trip across the United States last summer. Lanterns are great.

  2. I think of the 冰灯(bing1deng1), which means ice lantern in Chinese. I imagine these beautiful, glass-like carriers of light floating up into the sky…scientifically impossible, but in my dreams. I’ve always wanted to let fly a lantern up into the sky…

  6. I don’t really have much experience about lanters, but when I think of them I think in symbolic terms. A lantern is a beacon. Lanterns are reliable companions in the midst of darkness, ever present.

  12. It was the only thing I could see, approaching through the fog. I wasn’t sure I’d seen it at first. It might have been a trick, betrayal by my own eyes. But no, there it was, glowing yellow in the night. It got brighter as I neared. With it came the hope of a warm bed (or at least a warm dinner.) And sure enough, I had both within the hour.

  13. i was going through a cave. it was almost midnight. no one knew i was here. no one knew where i was at all for that matter. the lantern in my hand was the only source of light for miles. I could sense someone behind me but when i held up my lantern nothing was there.

  19. Lanterns light the way for everyone. They are also a symbol at my school and they are in every classroom. But they are not stylish so I hate lanterns. Gross. I like lights though, they’re chill. Lights!!!!

Will they return? How did they get around in the dark without the lantern? Perhaps they turned it on during the day, and left its light to guide someone else’s way.

  32. it s a purple filled lantern…the kinds you see fairies fly around it, attracting all kinds of different fairy dusts as the wings blow the dust all around.. sparklin on the horizon against the background of a sunset, with a gentle breeze, you breathe in the fairy dust and then the shock comes- you turn into a fairy! now you see why the lantern is so critical- it’s the lifeline of every fairy.

  33. lanterns guide my path in the night illuminating paths. the sparkle with the candle that laughs inside of them. lanterns usually were used in the old days but today im sure they are used to reeanct the past. the past, like a lantern, guides our path into the future. it just brings me to think about caves and discovery and new findings. lanterns are romantic yet also mysterious. romance and mystery kind of fit together though. think of a love story where the hero DIDN’T have a lantern. yeah. thats what i though.

As a crimson tear rivered its way down her neck, she was suddenly aware of the the throbbing in her temple. Wiping the sweat off her brow, her white sleeves which were once as pure as she, were now tarnished and torn. The blood and sand mucking their perfection, telling her story. She could taste salt and rust, a mixture of the summer sea air, her tears, and the blood that trickled past her mouth to her collar, staining her shirt as well as her young naive soul.

The green lantern is also a super hero that can do anything with only his will wich represents the human race and is a powerful statement.
