Qhat is myth? I never really understood it until one day my mother took me out onto the porch and spoke to me about it. Telling me that stories are often myths, legends that are passed on between the generations and somehow become real.

They used to think that the earth was square. That you’d sail, and when you reach the end of the horizon, you’d fall off the edges. That you’d dive right into the unknown, into the open-mouthed chasm.

The idea of a myth is to explain the unexplainable. Human beings have always needed explanations to what we do not understand, and myths provide such explanations.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend. That is what I am. Ultimately, I’m just here to make sure the good people of the city get a good nights sleep, without some creep smashing in to their houses and raping them brutally. I am Batman.

A myth is a story. Sometimes. Or it can be a theory that has yet to be tested for real. Or it has been tested but people in this day and age have never tested it. Some people believe myths. Some people don’t care for them. Myths are sometimes real, sometimes not. Most likely they aren’t real. But thats why we have shows like Mythbusters to help us test myths out.

Things that aren’t true are myths. Like the myth that cats are as cool as dogs. Or the myth that space ships only work when they’re in space. I want to make up a myth about something just so when people are like, “is that true or just a myth?” I can say, “no, I made that myth up.” (weirdest post yet)

The man was set on confirming the myth. He bought a suit and a sword from a merchant for far too much money–his life savings. People laughed, and no one believed him when he said there was a dragon in the mountains, that the old witch had predicted it on her deathbed. It was hard to be the son of a witch. He walked up that mountain in his suit and with his sword, and he never returned. Eventually, some people felt bad for having laughed.

Lies, legends, myths.
What are the differences between these words?
Myths are often ancient religions we choose to place there out of ridiculousness in our eyes.
Legends are old stories that cannot be proved but are told to have just a grain of truth.
Lies are usually fresh and new, can be of any size and shape, and aren’t always known as such.
If myths and legends are lies, then what makes us believe that our religions and histories are true?

It’s true. Redheads require more anesthesia for surgeries (20% to be exact!). Redheads have a lot of myths attached to them. But scientists have proven a lot of those myths to be true. Another one is that we bleed more during surgery and that our hair turns white instead of gray. All of these medical mysteries are linked to our unique color of hair. Being a redhead makes me feel like no other woman in the world. It’s like I have a gift that no one else can have. So yes, I have a redheaded chip on my shoulder. Good luck trying to saw it off.

Everything I know is a myth. To describe something ‘mythic’ is to describe something represented by an ideology that has become so entrenched in the culture that it is taken as read. Gender roles, justice, what makes good television.

mythology is a funny thing, the religion of old times. a pantheon of gods that would watch over the stars with crystal omnipotent eyes. they were no better then us, they ruined themselves in such a human fashion just as we did, the myth of perfection has long since snaked it’s way through our lives.

There were a lot of things said about me at that time. Most false, some true and some were somewhere in between. The point is I am not the person they said I am. I am not the person who committed that crime. Some day, they will see that, but until then they can go on thinking what they do.
