What are the odds that of all the gin joints in the world, I’d end up walking into the one where you worked? Pretty good, you say, you think I googled you and came here on purpose. Maybe but I don’t think so. I prefer to think that fate and the odds brought us together again after all this time. So there!

I mutter as I can’t really think of anything to write about odds.

The odds weren’t good. The black and red dices rolled, and tumbled over into single digits. Everything was stacked against us. But that didn’t stop us. We rushed against Fate, like a wild wind, unstoppable at the outset. But then the board lurched, the game changed. Things got harder. Losing became second nature. Too many bad hands led to a battering of hearts. We let go. Took our winnings and left. Now I still think of you with a rolled-up Ace of Hearts up my sleeve, grinning mischievously from its hiding place.
The odds were against them, not doubt about it. It wasn’t often that four men could go up against 15 and win. Well, technically 14 men and a woman, but forget technicalities. This was dangerous business here and now, but the odds weren’t going to stop them. They never had before.

More money flowed into the pot, and his nemesis just stared at him with nothing showing in her eyes. Others had now gathered round the table to watch. This kind of excitement in a card room is the fuel for stories told later over cheap beer and peanuts. The dealer casually glanced at the camera in the ceiling, then at the tournament director. The dust hung in the room, and all other sound had stopped. The dealer nodded almost imperceptibly, glanced at the two players, and reached for the 5th and final card …
Yellow feathers fluttered down to the ground. The finch shook himself again, sang a few notes, and then stared through the window back at the grey feline. Celia was certain that the little bird was rubbing his freedom in the cat’s face.

The cat jumped out at me when I open the garage. It was greatly shocking in the rarely lit backyard. When I went it to retrieve the rake and reclosed the door, it occurred to me that we probably hadn’t opened the garage since the previous winter to get the shovel. Also, we don’t even have a cat.

Odds- when I think of this word I think of luck. What are the odds of anything in life? Of scoring that winning goal, of getting that A on a test or of acceptance into that first college of your choice.
Im not really a fan of odd numbers and I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s because my birthday falls on an even day, the 2nd or maybe is because odd numbers just can’t be divided into two whole numbers. I’m almost superstitious about odd numbers; they carry some kind of omen.

Odds is a unknown word for me. I´ve tried to look up it in the dictionary but its meaning is really uncertain
