  8. When we’re writing stories, or when I’m having my kids practice speaking skills, I always ask them to “be specific”. We all make the mistake of assuming the listener or reader knows exactly what we’re talking about; as a teacher, it’s something I have to pay attention to.

  11. details is boring ! people tend to get into details about subjects. they would actually be interesting otherwise. on the contrary we can argue that brevity is the soul of wit. Without being specific you cannot really be witty !

  26. It’s so hard to do that. Be specific. People tell me all the time, “I don’t know what you’re saying, be specific”, or “You’re being too general, you need to be more specific”, Teachers, friends, parents.

    I’ve tried to be specific, but I hate getting bogged down in the details, the pedantic fiddly nitty-gritty that makes me want to tear my hair out. I would rather just write the general outline of something and let the imagination of my audience fill in the gaps.

  29. there isn’t something specific about the word specific. it is vague, because it doesn’t specify anything. without boundaries or a following explanation, the word specific contradicts its actual meaning. essentially, the word specific is anything but specific. and it’s annoying. i’m tired of things not being what they are.

  40. Lots of things in life require specific attention, like how many miles I might get from a tank of fuel and how much that tank just cost me with the latest fuel hike? Will I be able to get to my specific destination in order to earn the next paycheque in order to pay for the next tank of fuel?
