  1. staple,
    keeps together
    only papers,
    small snippets.
    nothing like
    life messed up
    mistakes made.
    wake up in the night,
    calling for the one
    you accidentally killed,
    knowing you will never
    get her back.
    she was yours,
    but she is now gone.
    all because you messed up.
    staples did not keep you
    together.

  2. the staple.
    only the thing
    that holds together
    flimsy pieces,
    papers.
it does not hold together life,
    things gone wrong,
    things you’ve done.
you wake up in the night
    sweating
    missing the one you killed
    accidentally,
    the one you loved most.

“What!? That doesn’t make any sense.”
    “Yeah, well that’s alright! Sure.”
    “Oh, ok.”
    yep, that’s it.

  7. Eggs are a staple around these parts. Chard, sauteed in olive oil with some onions, goes a long way, but we ain’t done. Combine that with some scrambled eggs, divinely loved with coconut cream and cheese and you’ve found yourself in heaven with a beautiful body.

  8. Let me be your staple food, slurp me up daily, regurgitate me. Lay me out on your table, feast on me – and let us give thanks for our daily bread. Let me rise and then bake me, let me be your staple food.

  9. Cut. Deep. Blood, staining pale white paper. Always a dead line. A Parade Of Pencil Shavings, And Bad Morning Breath.

My work place is a war zone.

  10. I hate talking out stapes. I try to do it without ruining the paper or my fingernails, but usually I make a mess of things and the staple goes flying and I have a heck of a time trying to find it so that the dogs don’t step on it .

  11. it was imprinted like a stamp
ready to fade, and yet not quite.
    it held its place,
    strong
    she couldn’t imagine that
    it would win the race

stuck, locked into place, bolted with a chain
the most important thing in her mind
    the tiniest of signs

    she kept glancing their way
    unable to remove
    what was

  12. cause it hasnt been that long, since you almost hit that tree, cause it hasnt been that long, since you hit that tree from speed

do you remember, the ambulance that took you there, do you remember, they cut your pants your favorite pair, they shaved your head, where’s all your hair?

    the doctor said
we need some staples for his head
    the doctor said
another foot you could be dead

  13. Food is a staple in my life. Both of my grandmothers cook, their mothers cooked and their mothers before them. I’m even going to school for culinary arts. But my favorite thing to do is to find out what another country’s staple food is and figure out what it is they do with it. Ethnic cuisine is my favorite thing to learn about. Because as I’ve said before, you can always learn something about someone else through their food.

  14. It was the staple to put it all together. I’m not even sure how that works out, but it most definitely stabbed into my chest a little. There it was, the dirty little detail that wrapped every worst memory and feeling together, shining in the light just to prove how worthless I was. It really was unnecessary; I already knew.

  15. I was an office worker. It seems un-glamorous, but it was well within my comfort zone. Print three pages, staple here. Repeat forty times. Simple. Repetitive. Routine. Safe. This is the lifestyle I prefer. But moms don’t like to hear that you want to be an office worker.

  16. Ouch.
I guess I didn’t realize I had stapled the fucking essay to my hand. I guess you are what you eat… but wait, I don’t eat trees or paper. You can’t digest that shit. I guess what they say is true, I’m as absent minded as a possum. If that even makes sense.

  17. If you think you have no reason to be grateful when the mortgage is due and school fees abound and the parking space just got taken, then recalibrate perceptions. Complaining is really only a staple in the first world…

  18. i like the simple things in life
and i thank god for them all
    just the super small things
    like staple
    a doctor
    the mall.
but i thank god for my life
whenever there is a staple in sight
the staple represents the finer things in life
the staple the staple – that represents me tonight.

She was holding the stapler in her hand.
    I couldn’t process it.
    She just fell.
Noone knows why or how but it WAS.
    And it was terrible.
    My friend was eleven.

  22. Staples are sharp, they could hurt if you stapled someone to something else. Like Eminem in that song “my name is.” I keep dropping my staples all over my floor. Not sure why I told you that.

  27. A staple in everyone’s life should be happiness. We are always too busy planning ahead to concern ourselves with the moments that pass by us. And those moments that pass by are life’s moments. Make happiness your staple.

  29. You staple yourself to a life-or rather birth staples you to a life. You have no choice in the life you choose or the circumstances that arise in the future. A child does not choose to see tragedy when young–to see blood, fortune and death. The events in life stayed printed on the surface of the brain, and time does not erase pain, it only covers it with more memories, good or bad.

  30. Small, inconspicuous, and painfully wedged in the bottom of my sole. The office assassin, hiding in carpets, ready to pounce.

  36. I grabbed the staple and looked at it; the only weapon i have in this death trap of a playhouse. It’s hard to hold onto because, well, it’s a staple. I grip it with the tips of my sweaty fingers and move forward slowly. There’s not much time.

  37. Staples. Bread, water, wheat. Staples.
A small, orphaned girl scrambled through the alleyways searching for food.
For us, it is a luxury, to her, it is a staple.
She searches through the dumpsters and steps on cans.

  38. Every Sunday after breakfast, mother gathered up her tan pocketbook and all of her coupon clippings to walk very slowly to the local grocery store. She bought milk, eggs, bread, masking tape, string cheese and a vegetable for dinner that night. It was a glorious trip through space where I became small and cared for and mother was my mother (who smelled like dimples and cigarettes). The space she left at the door where her shoes usually lay was like the bare strip of skin above a puckered belly button soothed with the idle fingers of a lover–comfortable and you wished that it would always be this way.

  39. gun. once i stapled one piece of paper to the next. my friend once stapled her finger on purpose, it looked really painful. maybe this means staple items like water and food, some people consider material objects like ipods and tvs to be staple items.

  40. I have to hurry, or they won’t count it as a grade. Crap, all the papers are out of order! No paper clip.. I wish my spit had a special gluey adhesive in it so I could lick the corner and stick em together! Oh here it is, the stapler! KA-CHUNK! Now I hand in my report, my 50 point report, just before the bell rings. My B+ in this class is safe!
