  1. i’ve had a lot of teachers
but you’re the only one that’s getting my apple
    i watched you wide-eyed
as you told me what to love
    and how to do it

i make my own lessons now
    but you’re all over
    my very first notebook.
    thanks, you.

  2. They had the same teacher. They were in different class periods, but the same class. The teacher knew they were dating, and knew that their relationship was a little more advanced than it should have been at their age. She showed up with hickies on her neck one day. They were young and didn’t yet realize how tacky those things are. The Teacher asked her where she got them and had a long talk with her about taking things slow. The same thing happened after lunch when he showed up for her class. Needless to say, class was awkward for the next few weeks.

  3. she was always on time
she handed in her papers and they were always top of the class
everyday she was respectful and asked good questions
    but he hated her
this girl, this one student, he could not get her out of his mind and she filled him with an inexplicable rage
he wondered if he was burnt out on teaching
if he was loosing his mind
were these feelings derived from some other emotion beyond pure hatred?
Durring pop quizes he plotted murdering her – what was wrong with him he wondered idly.

  4. I can remember my favorite teacher in high school, it was my English teacher my sophomore year and even though I can’t remember her name, I can remember the books we read in English class and how much she really seemed to love them and the way she passed that on to us. I can remember her reading Charles Dickens to us and Lord of the Flies and another biography about an African American naval pilot who was also a baseball player… Great teacher. Great woman. She loved what she did, and we all loved her. English was my favorite class that year.

  5. My daughter is a teacher. She’s tiny and fiery, and I suspect her children are quietly afraid of her. But they learn – they dare not learn. which pleases parents and important people like that. And she loves them really!

  7. Shut up, sit down- listen, I said listen
    are you paying attention now?

    Have you lost your mind?
Do you need someone to talk to,
    is everything alright?

Four years ago you walked into my class,
and every since then you have had me
    as a teacher.

Growing up, graduating, showing all what
you have learned. You time has come, I hope
    you have listened.

    —-

We all have had someone like that in our lives,
and although I haven’t seen you since the last
day of school- I am so thankful to have had the
chance to sit in your classes all those years.

  8. My favorite teacher was mr. procter he was my 6th grade math teacher. he had a teaching degree with a minor in art. He used to have pictures that he drew on the ceiling by his desk. He was one of my favorite teacher because he was always very quiet and never raised his voice to any one.

  9. I had a teacher once. Nice man. Taught history. He told that most fabulous stories, one including working on Morgan Freeman’s house or something and running into Clint Eastwood. He was a movie man. My favorite movie man.

  10. when you encounter one, it might mean a difference between heaven and hell. A master of arts, a person who indeed loves the area they are teaching, will spawn such interest, such a flame in you, that you will feel obliged to give in to the most amazing, vivid visions of otherworldly beauty. Not that it ever happens though…

  11. I had a teacher in 8th grade who taught me about grammatical problems. To this day i correct peoples grammar at least in my head all the time. I blame her for it kind of i guess? But i’m glad i do it. And i dont like when people get bothered by people correcting their grammar, it would be the same as correcting spelling on a paper or something, we’re just trying to help you out so you don’t look stupid. I’ve slowly s topped doing it though.

  14. I have many teachers that stand out to me. I cannot complain about truly disliking any, but I suppose that was as a result of my very own disposition. I am a people pleaser of some sort. The teachers that stand out to me were definitely not from high school.

  15. My teacher was away this morning. We had a somewhat strict teacher, my respect for her rises and falls throughout the day. I just don’t know what to think of her. On one hand, she’s being reasonable, on the other hand she’s being rude. And of course we’re not all that well-behaved.

  16. want to be one, have i got it in me. am i polite enough, organised enough, calm enough. will i be able to teach people subjects well enough and engage them. will i be as good as my best teacher was, that is what i would like to be.

  17. There once was this teacher that basically ruined my entire self esteem. I used to be outgoing, but because of her I became self-reserved and shy. To this day I don’t enjoy thinking about her. She was not a nice lady. She was my 4th grade teacher too.. who does that to a little kid?!

  18. Teachers. Gawd. You hate them for the majority of your life, and then realise how you really neeeded them. As a year 11 leaver Im getting increasingly nostalgic and tearful that im leaving school, and all the teachers I knew and got to know behind. But looking to the future eh!?

    by D-Man on 06.09.2011
  19. Teacher, I wonder what could be taught besides the basic subjects. I want to teach something other than math, English, science. There should be lessons held for love, or for life itself, or the beauty that is the world and poetry. I could teach that. I think I’d do very well. Of course, with that salary, why bother? I’ll just write about those things instead.

  20. Guides for the future. Who form you. Shape you. Nourish you. Chefs. Food for thought. Teachers were taught by teachers who were taught to teach. Real teachers were taught to teach, but teach you what they weren’t taught.

  21. when I think of teachers, I think of my third grade teacher and my seventh grade English teacher. My English teacher, Mr Backey has changed me more than any other teacher and more than most people in general. He has taught me more than just how to use our language effectively, but has taught me key aspects of life as well.

  22. I had a teacher in the 3rd grade. She’s was my favorite, although, I can’t be bothered to remember her name. I remember she was the same height as most of her students. Short even than some. If you didn’t look hard enough for the greying hair you could lose her among us.

  23. Teachers are awesome. They do a lot for their students. They do not get paid a lot but they care enough to put our country forward. They are wonderful people for trying with so many over many years. Teachers…full of awesome.

  24. Of all the people I’ve ever known, she’s been the one I would consider a true teacher. Never before have I met a human being who has shown so much kindness, generosity, and encouragement towards me.

  25. Just graduated from teacher’s college. Love the profession, dont mind spending my days/years teaching children.

Bad ones ruin things for the good ones

  27. I’m a teacher. Or, i plan on being a teacher. I have a job right now, but that may not be available to me in this next school year. As of right now, I love what I do. I work as a Title 1 teacher working with economically disadvantaged students. I teach a math literacy class.

  28. Call me crazy but is anyone else baffled by the fact that teachers have a minimal salary while sports heads get paid millions of dollars a year to do basically nothing? I assure you, I am not a teacher myself. In fact, I’m a student. I just think its odd that one of the most important jobs in the world pays so little.

  29. My teacher is the universe to me. For without her, life wouldn’t be worth living. I came here a child and I left a woman.

  30. A teacher arrives when the student is ready. What I wonder is…how long has that teacher been waiting?

  31. her name is mrs. duxbury and she has opinions about writing: it should be concise, it should lack personality, it should wither and die, basically, in a sterile pile of precision. first C on a paper, and i didn’t really care.

  32. reach my hands over, shall I understand the truth. although I brought the knife

  33. Oh god. My teacher was an asshole. No really, she wasn’t. I had one in the first grade. A frenchie. She was delightful. She taught me how to speak french, and when I failed a test, and I had to do it again, she would give me little hints. Furthermore, when I thought I was failing third class, she manipulated others. thank you.

  34. I’m thinking too much about this prompt.
For, a teacher can be anyone.
    Or anything.
A teacher can be your neighbor, your family, your friend.
    Or a complete stranger.
Or perhaps you’re your own teacher.
So whatever you are, you can teach.
And wherever you are, you can learn.

    “What?” he repeated.
I swallowed. The other kids sat there in silence. All eyes on me.
“I… I…” The words would not come out.

  37. I love them they’re smart, know a lot about everything. Plus i respect everyone i have. A few should learn how to teach a bit better but all have amazing knowledge and a brain that’s just waiting to be picked. They’re pretty cool people really. =]

  38. I had a teacher in high school who found his wife cheating on him. I told him he focused too much on society. On values and codes of ethics. The fact of the matter was that he had not slept with her in over a year, much less taken her out to a movie. The fault was on him.

  39. And how could I forgive her . . . “The boys would like red paper for their mosaic backgrounds. Oh, is crying the way you get what you want at home? It won’t work here.” Swallowing my tears, I stared at the blue paper left and reluctantly took it.
