Even as I write these words, that is what we are. Together. In every sense and aspect. She’s lying next to me in bed. Resting her weary soul in sleep. I’m brushing her hair and the back of her head with my fingers and I feel utterly complete. I reminisce sitting here, from the way we made love a few hours ago to how her eyes glistened when she she looked at me right before she kissed me for the very first time. So far, it has been an uneasy road. But she has held my hand and her own through it all. And I’ve resurrected myself in her image. I am both proud and humbled by the fact that I am survived by her. I am a better person for knowing her. Yes, love like this still exists, The kind of overbearing, coveting, smothering and irrationally affectionate love. The kind of love that is frowned upon now. The kind of love that has become desensitized to a mere myth and ridiculed out of every norm. But that’s the kind of love we have sheltered each other in. That love, which tears down every wall and leaves you barren and vulnerable to her. That rips open your ribcage and exposes your still beating heart to her. The kind of love that has been discouraged for the very fact that it allows her to cripple you in an instant, purely for the passion with which love. Why do it then? Why indeed? The reason I love her with undying vehemence is because the very second I asked myself that very why, every single inch of me resonated with “why not?” It is then that I knew, regardless of whether she holds steadfast or falters, she is and will always be worth it.
