  1. On a whim, I gave myself a tattoo. It had meaning. Of course. “It’s a boa constrictor digesting an elephant.” Of course. People these days, no imagination. Although, I admit using a straight pin and india ink makes your tattoos look a little like a connect the dots drawing.

  6. I don’t have the ability to act on a whim. I process; I plan. I never just “go with the flow.” It’s annoying, yes, but I like when it turns out how I wanted. But I will admit, I’m waiting for someone to sweep me off my feet. That’s when I’ll feel sparks, when we’ll get married on a whim, and when we’ll be crazy about each other.

  10. An unplanned event. No premeditation. One day I got in my truck and decided to drive to Wisconsin for some cheese. The cheese was good. Cheddar and Colby Jack are my favorite. I spent all my money on cheese and had to hitch hike home. Not fun. Luckily it didn’t rain. On Iowa.

  12. it is not clear what exactly is a whim. People after all are so whimsical. Whims and fancies are a good expression for people to keep saying about such men and women. Between men and women I guess women are more whimsical and driven by whims. Well between male whims and female whims it is always that the women’s whim survive, triumph and eventually conquer. Why the world is so unfair! It is not clear. Even nature seems no different.

Lesson after lesson, week after week. But this was like a final test. And just as I froze up in front of a blank page, I froze up in the water.

  15. i went out on a whim and thought that i would try something new. When i tried this new thing it didnt go very well. I will never go out on a whim again. I just went out on a whim and thought that i would go and wirte this message for no reason.

  16. This is an interesting word. When I look at it I think of something like going out on the whim. It is some sort of Indian term used in the old days.

  20. she always drank hot chocolate on a whim. she was banned from sugar and any form of caffeine but yet, there she was, every day at 3pm, leaning against the counter of the Java Spot, sipping her hot chocolate with double whip. she felt it was a whim anyway.

  26. On a whim. I am not quite sure of the definition of this word, but I believe it is an act of quick thinking. To do something without thought, to just live in the moment. “I did that on a whim.” Meaning I did it quickly without thinking about it, I followed my instincts. Not quite sure of the meaning so this is the best possible way I thought I could phrase it.

  27. I live my life on a whim. Can’t take the constraints of planning. Can’t dedicate too much time to one thing. Want to feel free to pick up and go where ever the four winds blow me. I like it that way.

Maybe it was a whim that caused her to walk under the big top that night, or maybe it was fate that caused her to run into the ringmaster who with his red and gold coat tossed to the side, picked up the garbage lazy audiance members left when the show ceased. Maybe it was a whim that caused her to hum that one song that made the ringmaster look up with his icy blue eyes locking onto hers, smile and say “You like Sinatra?”

  39. whims are so easy to comfort us’ we find them as an excuse not to do what needs to be done and delivered. whims are just scapegoats and they are annoying. The only way to deal with them is to step over them.

  40. whimsy is a funny thing. whimsical, on a whim . . . it speaks of going without thinking, that fraction of a second when you decide and you don’t regret anything in that one moment. I wish i’d done more things on a whim
