  4. Obviously I think of water, but that’s in the back of my mind. On the first thought that actually counts, “canteen” sounds like “cantina” which reminds me of Mexico. A Mexican dance party with trumpets and great food. Fiesta. Ole.

  5. i once had a canteen filled with tears
all the sorrows of the world filled in a canteen
i kept that canteen safe and sound
until the day when it went missing
and the world never sounded so serene

  6. When I see a canteen, I think camping! Camping is one of those thing I look forward to doing every summer. Oddly enough, I don’t think I’ve ever actually used a REAL canteen in the camping trips I’ve been on.

  7. canteen. bein a child and going to the canteen for lunch in elementary school is one of the memories I will never forget. the canteen food was totally bad most of the days but we were always hoping to get our favourite food every day. and we always believed that it is going to better next time. we were young. we were optimistic. we were kids.

  8. What the fuck is this?
    Something to hold water in.
There’s nothing else to hold water in? Who the fuck called it a “CANTEEN” in the first place. It sounds like the most terrible mashup of two words ever. The worst compound fucking word in the world. What CAN TEENS do? That is literally a sentence that makes sense all on its own.

  9. I used the canteen to fill it with the air I had left after you took away my breath. I missed you. Can you come back, so I can breathe again and release it from the canteen.

  11. The canteen had slid underneath the car, so at the one moment he needed it most, it was nowhere to be found. He could feel his throat swell more and more in between shout. When he finally fell to the ground, he saw the shimmer of his silver canteen, but it was an inch too far.

  12. A Klean Canteen. It reads “plastics are forever”. I sip from it as I see him for the first time. I sip from it as I see him for the last time. He sits next to me, we talk. He whispers a question in my right ear. He likes me, I can tell. He still has a chance with me, he said over lunch. He wants to be close. He flirts on facebook chat. Then he stops.

  13. you drink out of a canteen. it makes me think of the army. i also think that a canteen is where people can eat. or somethingl ike that. im not sure. i feel like its something you can drink out of as well though. at school people refer to the place where we eat lunch as the canteen although all it is is some tables and vending machines. but….its w

  14. Canteens, lost in the desert, a lonely string to grasp, to hold onto life. To strive and clutch, ultimately, to fail. Loneliness and desperateness, it’s never enough and we all die alone.

    by Joe on 05.26.2011

  17. A container, usually metal that one hold their personal drink or beverage in while out and about. Whether it be on a weekend camping trip in the Colorado Rockies or on a wild Safari adventure. Bring this item to quench your thirst wherever, whenever.

  18. The canteen shook in his aching, arthritic hands. So long, he had been traveling on his journey but for what? To prove himself? To make his very existence worthy? He laughed despite of himself. The man was a fool, chasing after an old and unachievable dream. He brought the canteen to his lips and found it bone dry. Under the hot sun, his dry mouth and sweaty body gave a cry. The man went to his knees, preparing himself to leave the world. The red sand was blazing hot and he curled into a ball, caressing the sand.
Now, the man would begin another journey, another goal. At least this goal he wouldn’t fail. Death.

  19. the water in the canteen was running low. When was the rescue team going to show? When? When? I couldn’t wait much longer. When? When? This is it.

  21. dear heart,
be wary of the boy who exorcizes you and collects your kind (the elusive white-asian mix… asian enough to be something to be ogled, white enough to talk to in public). you are not a canteen. you can not simply be refilled over and over again.

    sincerely.

  22. I waited in line in the canteen. It was then, that I had a moment. Admiring the business that filled the small space. There were girls laughing, singing, and hugging. All different types of women, mingling. They seemed innocent and happy, and it daunted on me that this would soon be over, in a mere few years, whatever we’ve shared as girls will be over and we will be set free into the world.

  23. Canteen is a thing to hold water liquid or liquor of somesort. if you serperate the word it is can and teeen. such as a teen crushing a can. can the teen crush the can? you would probably want to take a canteen on a hunting truip or camping trip for liquids.

  24. Seth and Igal crawled along through the desert, one empty canteen between them. Their mouths were dry, their tear ducts dry. Then, suddenly, miraculously, it started to rain. “Praise the Lord,” cried Seth. “Yea and verily,” cried Igal, “G-d is certainly looking out for us!”

40 rainy days and 40 rainy nights later, their floating bloated corpses bumped against the wooden hull of an enormous ark.

  25. Adam Sandler and Alec Baldwin. Canteen Boy from Saturday Night Live. Need I say more?

  29. Canteens are normally small…. Although I’ve seen some pretty large ones. Like the ones in the movies that the guys in the army use!!! They’re typically green, aren’t they? But I guess that’s just in the movies… Sometimes they contain alcohol, but don’t you think that’d be bad in the hot weather- assuming they’re somewhere really hot?

  30. The canteen was metal. The dull kind of metal, that only kind of glints. And it was kind of glinting right now. The storm had blown the sand off of it, and it sat there, totally unexciting, a little boring, on the hip of some forgotten adventurer wearing khakis. The canteen had been bought in London for somewhere around 5 pounds, from a street vendor who was Indian, who had said about it: “It was made by my brother.”

    by Johnny Martin on 05.26.2011
  31. The man sat there, sandy breathed and emaciated. Scanning the barren landscape through crescent eyes he took notice to a small black object sticking from the charred earth. He grabbed it. A canteen. Shaking it with ecstasy followed by disappointment, it was empty.

  32. I’m taking a little trip. I don’t know where I’m going or when I’ll get back. The road looks rough and I may fall. But I have a canteen that never empties and a Man that will never leave my side. Give me strength and the wisdom to read the map in my hands. I know I can’t do this alone, would you like to join me?

  33. Fill our canteens,
    Sun hot overhead
    Sand hot in our boots.

    Fill our eyes
    endless dunes
    Muzzles of our rifles
    Scorching in the sun.

    Drink.

    with substance

  36. You look to them as a last resort. When you’re running on empty. When you’re all alone. When you have nothing left. You drink whatever’s left. Sucking the life out of it to absorb what’s in there to save yourself. You’re out in the desert..you’re all alone. It’s your only friend.

  38. Thirst. Need. Want. Desire. Desperation. Search. Find. Disappointment. Deppression. Wait. Hope. Run. Run. Grab. Hold. Open. Drink.

  39. I had a canteen on this hiking trip… it was hot and I went to take a sip. The cool water quenched my thurst and I continued my journey. As I began to climb up that hill, I realized that I heard a thumping behind me. The canteen had fallen out of my backpack and was tumbling down the hill behind me. I slid myself down the rocky hillside and went after it, but it was too late.

  40. This is the number one thing people complaint about in my school. This is also one of the number one indicators that these peers of mine are mainly composed of spoiled brats with a side order of ignorance, generously sprinkled with the middle-upper class white wealth. Fuck them, I love my stewed fish and rice.
