  31. “Happy Birthday.” he whispered in my ear and opened my door.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!” shouts came from my now brightly lit bedroom.
I looked around in surprise. “You guys…how did you know it was my birthday?”
Theana smiled, “James told us!” She rushed forward with a vice-like hug. “Why didn’t you tell us! We need to know these things for advanced birthday gift shopping.”
I was startled, “Birthday gifts?!” Pulling out of the hug I shook my head, “Nonono. You really shouldn’t buy me anything.”
“Why not?” Theana asked looking at me saddened.
“Because I’m not allowed to accept gif…” I cut myself off. I wasn’t in the orphanage anymore. I could accept gifts if I wanted to. I looked up at them standing around looking at me curiously.
James nudged me a bit, ‘Go on.’ he thought, ‘You can do as you like now.’
I turned to him, tears welling up and threw my arms around him. ‘I want this.’ I thought. ‘Thank you.’
    “I love you.”

  32. It was another one of those days; but not the kind where it felt like the whole world was against me. This wasn’t an “I hate the world” day; it was a “I hate myself” type thing. So I went home to celebrate with a glass of wine, and a good book. What was the occasion? Why it was my own little pity party. The only kind I seem to throw these days.

  33. I like to celebrate. The word celebrate makes me think of a really good time. It makes me think of parties, mostly graduation parties. For some reason I don’t really think of birthday parties as celebrations because as you get older, you really don’t celebrate that much and I guess I have an old soul, or am around older people too much to have them celebrate about their birthdays. Sometimes I like to celebrate for nothing, or something small, like a job well done on a test or something. But not often. Maybe because I don’t feel proud of myself, even though I do do fairly well on tests and what not for me to have enough celebrations for them. I don’t know. I feel like people who celebrate things a lot must be optimists and live better lives because they must always be happy because they celebrate a lot. Maybe people who don’t celebrate anything are introverts who kind of hate life, because they have nothing to celebrate and so they’ve kind of just given up. I see the word celebrate as a yellow word. Like a huge, happy party. I don’t know if that makes sense. People who don’t celebrate are seen by me as a darker color, like a brown or something because they’re not bright and happy and ecstatic to celebrate life.
